Barnes and Noble will replace two former Boston-area Amazon Books stores - WCVB

Panzer here. Mom's still sick, but she's getting better.  She'll be back at the keyboard next week.

Here's a post I found that she was working on. It's from the WCVB site.

Panzer says, How does she find all this stuff?
How does she find all this stuff?
According to the post, Barnes and Noble will open bookstores in the Boston-area locations vacated earlier this year by Amazon Books. The post has a very short video at the top, followed by a short description about the new mall bookstores. One will open in the Legacy Place mall in Dedham, MA, and the second will open in the MarketStreet mall in Lynnfield, MA. Also included in the post are links to the Barnes and Noble Facebook announcements about the new stores. (After the Barnes and Noble post are posts about other news in the local area, but not related to Barnes and Noble.)

Note: This is a short post. Bring a cup of tea for today's reading selection. If you plan to follow the links, bring a muffin too.

Amazon to Open Two Bookstores in Denver, Could Buy a Movie Theater Chain - The Digital Reader

Two bookstores in one city.
Panzer had hardly gotten into the Catosphere today when the Panzermobile was buffeted and shaken by the sounds of clapping and cheering. Following all the noise took our brave kitty to The Digital Reader site. With no digging at all he found the post causing all the excitement was about Amazon Books bookstores.

In the post by site owner Nate Hoffelder Panzer learned Amazon is apparently opening two new bookstores in Denver, Colorado. According to the post, one will be in the Parks Meadow mall and one in Cherry Creek. These will be bricks and mortar Amazon Books bookstores. That means the stores will probably follow the other Amazon Books bookstores' layout of bestselling and most popular reader-favorite books and e-devices only.  Also included in the post is information about Amazon's possible acquisition of the Landmark Theaters chain. There are links to the posts where the information about the new bookstores and the movie theater acquisition information came from.

Panzer says, "Movie theaters? ... Hmm ... Maybe Amazon will start a movie production company. ... And I know exactly where they could get some stories about the adventures of a cute little crime-solving kitty."

Note: This is a short-medium length post. Bring a cup of tea and half a muffin for today's reading selection. If you plan to follow the links in the post, bring an extra cup of tea and another muffin.

Bethesda Row's Amazon Books Opens Tuesday - Bethesda Magazine

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Bethesda Magazine site. There with a little digging our inquisitive kitty found a post about Amazon.

According to the post by Bethany Rodgers, Amazon has opened its 16th brick and mortar store. The new Amazon Books store is located in the District of Columbia (DC) area. The store has 3,700 books. Besides new releases and reader favorites, there's a whole shelf of books with 10,000 or more book reviews. Amazon devices are also available. The store is open seven days a week. Numerous photos of the inside of the new store are included in the post too. You'll also want to read the Comments section for some interesting information.
10,000 reviews? That's really depressing.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... It seems impossible to this little kitty to get 10,000 reviews. How did they do that?"

Note: This is a medium length post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection. If you plan to look at all the photos of the inside of the store, bring an extra cup of tea.

Amazon book store planned for The Village at Meridian - Meridian Press

Panzer was traveling around in the Catosphere when he heard a strange hissing noise. Following the shushing sound took our inquisitive kitty boy to the Meridian Press site. There he found a post about the possible location of a new secret Amazon bookstore in Meridian, Idaho.

According to a post by Torrie Cope, Meridian Press filed a Public Records Request with the city of Meridian, Idaho, about a construction permit at The Village at Meridian. The post states the permit lists Amazon Books for the tenant renovations. Meridian Press spoke to a representative at The Village, but didn't receive confirmation about Amazon's tenancy and an email sent to Amazon didn't receive a reply.
It's not a secret anymore.

Panzer says, "This little kitty wants to know how Meridian Press knew to ask for a copy of the permit."

Amazon Books is Coming to Denver

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to The Digital Reader site. There our traveling kitty pilot found a post about Amazon's move into the Denver area.

I'll just watch and see what happens.
According to the post by The Digital Reader site owner Nate Hoffelder, Amazon is preparing to open an Amazon Books bookstore in Denver, Colorado. The store will be located in the Park Meadows Mall. The company is actively seeking employees for the store. The post includes links to the Amazon site to apply for employment positions at the store when it opens.

Panzer says, "Another bookstore. The stores must be bringing in sales revenue or Amazon wouldn't keep opening them."

Note: This is a short-medium length post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection.

Panzer was taking a leisurely trip around the Catosphere today, when he happened upon the Amazon Books site. It didn't take any digging at all to discover information about Amazon's bricks and mortar bookstores there.

Five more store?
About one third of the way down the page is the Stores by State heading. Listed are the eight Amazon bricks and mortar bookstores currently open across the U.S. Listed below that are the locations of the five Coming Soon store locations. Included under each of the stores listed is a link to apply for employment. Listed under the employment link is a link to signup for updates on the store.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Amazon is really taking their bricks and mortar bookstores seriously."

Note: This is a shortish post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection.

Amazon Opens Second Bookstore In Massachusetts - Publishers Weekly (PW)

I'll feel better after my nap.
Panzer had to make his annual visit to the veterinarian today, so his trip into the Catosphere was a quick one. Our speedy kitty boy made a stop at the Publishers Weekly site where he found a post about Amazon.

According to the post by Alex Green, all the rumors and speculation were true. Amazon opened their second Massachusetts Amazon Books bookstore on April 18. This one is in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. Like other Amazon Books bookstores Amazon Prime members get a discount on books and devices, but other customers pay full price.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Amazon opened a second store in Massachusetts ... and ... they already have a big warehouse there ... and ... there's rumors they're looking for office space there. This kitty wonders if there will be an east coast Amazon headquarters in Massachusetts?"

Note: This is a shortish-medium post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection.

Amazon Opening Second NYC Bookstore - Publishers' Weekly

So much noise I've got a headache.
Panzer was just tootling around in the Catosphere enjoying the solitude, when the Panzermobile was buffeted by cheering and clapping. Following the brouhaha took our fearless kitty traveler to the Publishers' Weekly site. There he found a post about Amazon.

According to the post by Jim Milliot, it's now official. Amazon is opening a second Amazon Books bricks and mortar bookstore in New York City (NYC). Plans are to open the new store this summer. This will be Amazon's eleventh bricks and mortar store. Amazon is already hiring employees for the store.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... The other Amazon Books bookstores must be doing well with their sales to get Amazon to keep opening new stores this fast."

Note: This is a short post. Bring a half a cup of tea for today's reading selection.

Every Amazon Books Location, Mapped - Publishers' Weekly

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard ohing and ahing coming from outside. Following all the noise, took our kitty boy to the Publishers' Weekly (PW) site. With no digging at all he found a post about Amazon's bricks and mortar stores.

Is this a building frenzy?
According to the post by Jim Milliot, Amazon has announced the projected opening of five more bricks and mortar stores in 2017. These five new stores will join the five already opened for a total of ten. Two of the already opened stores have cafes, but it's unknown if any of the upcoming five stores will include this feature. There's a map included in the post that shows the locations of the current bricks and mortar stores and the proposed locations for the new ones.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Is there going to be one near you?"

Note: This is a medium length post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection.

Amazon is hiring for its new bookstore in Boston - TeleRead

Today, Panzer's trip into the Catosphere took him to the TeleRead site. After a little digging around our big bad kitty found a post about Amazon.

This needs watching.
According to Nate Hoffelder's post, Amazon is currently hiring employees for its new Amazon Books bookstore in the Legacy Place mall in Dedham, Massachusetts. The employee job descriptions seem to make it evident that the new store will carry the same books and electronics products as the original Seattle, Washington, bookstore.

Panzer says, "Amazon seems to be opening stores in fast succession since this is to be the fifth bricks and mortar store."

Note: This is a short post. Bring a cup of tea for today's reading session.

Signaling more ambitious retail plans, Amazon chooses San Diego for second brick-and-mortar bookstore - Geek Wire

As you all know, Panzer likes to take Sundays off and catch up on his missed naps. Well today was not a good day for naps. Our big bad kitty was rudely awaken from his afternoon-evening nap a while ago by oohhing and aahhing coming from the Catosphere. Our sleepy kitty boy staggered to the Panzermobile and headed out. It didn't take long to find the source of all the noise at the GeekWire site.

According to a post there by John Cook. Amazon is opening a second bricks and mortar store. Their first store was opened in Seattle, Washington about four months ago. The new one will be in San Diego, California. The store will be located in the Westfield University Towne Center Mall. A sign at that location says they are hiring employees and will open this summer.

Back to what's important. Napzzzzz
Panzer says, "Sales must be really good at the Seattle (Washington) store for them to open another one so soon."

Note: A cup of cocoa and muffin will be enough for today's reading.

ABA Looking Into Amazon Books Inventory Practices

I'm feeling a little better.
Panzer was searching the Catosphere today looking for news items he missed while he's been sick. Our kitty pilot stopped in at the Publishers' Weekly site to see what he could find. After a little digging around he found a post about the new bricks and mortar Amazon Books book store.

Judith Rosen reports Oren Teicher of the American Booksellers Associate (ABA) sent a letter to members that the group is looking into Amazon Books store's inventory practices. The ABA wants to make sure the bricks and mortar store isn't using inventory from Amazon.com. According to the post, this is an illegal practice under the U.S. antitrust laws. There's a link to Mr. Teicher's original letter and a second link to Publishers' Weekly's original post about Amazon Books opening included in Ms. Rosen's post.

Panzer says, "Hmmm ... The bricks and mortar store has been open how long? Less than a month? And the ABA is already looking into their inventory practices?"

Note: This can be one cup of tea if you just read Ms. Rosen's post or two cups if you follow the links too.

Amazon VP on Amazon's New Bookstore: 'We Have No Idea What's Going to Happen' - Publishers' Weekly

Panzer was out in the Catosphere scouting around for interesting news for you today. Our intrepid kitty hunter stopped in at the Publishers' Weekly site. Guess what he found? More news about the Amazon Books store.

Jim Milliot has an interview with Jennifer Cast, v-p of Amazon Books, in which she states Amazon's new bricks and mortar bookstore had quite a crowd of book shoppers the first few days it's been open. As Panzer told you a few days ago, the books chosen for the store must be at least 4 star Amazon.com books, approved by Goodreads readers and Amazon staff. This means the store carries new as well as older books that meet that criteria. According to Ms. Cast, if the store is successful, there will be more Amazon Books stores.

It does make me wonder.
Panzer says, "Hmmm. If Amazon Books opens more stores, that may put more pressure on independent bookstores."

Note: This is a l-o-n-g post, so bring a thermos of tea to drink while you read; and, if you want to read the earlier posts too, bring two thermoses of tea and a dozen muffins.

Inside Amazon's First Physical Bookstore - Publishers' Weekly

Panzer was out in the Catosphere today and discovered Amazon is in the news again. Our big bad kitty boy stopped in at the Publishers' Weekly site. There he discovered a post about Amazon's new bricks and mortar store.

You missed your chance with me.
Rob Salkowitz gives us a tour of the Amazon Books store. The store carries 5,000 to 6,000 books as well as Kindles, Kindle Fires and Fire TV devices. The books are 4 and 5 star Amazon. com bestsellers. Other things taken into account for store placement include Goodreads reader opinions and Amazon pre-order launch numbers. Included in the post are photos of the outside and inside of the store.

Panzer says, "Hmmm ... I didn't do pre-orders for CAT WISDOM for humans and it's not up at Goodreads yet. Does that mean I'm wasting my time formatting CAT WISDOM for humans for a Create Space paperback? "

Note: One cup of tea should be enough for today's reading.
