This morning Panzer was shaken from his nap in his kitty bed by clapping and cheering coming from the Catosphere. Hopping in the Panzermobile, our adventuresome kitty boy followed all the hoopla to the USA TODAY site. With no digging at all he discovered the USA Today Bestsellers List is coming back. The list has been gone since December.

According to Barbara VanDerburgh, the list will appear both online and in print, but no specific  return date is given.

Panzer says, "It's been so long this little kitty didn't think it was ever coming back."

According to a post by Michael Capobianco, the U.S. Copyright Office has determined what it will consider copyrightable in human and AI-generated material. It doesn't appear to bode well for AI-generated books. The post includes a link to the U.S. Copyright Office.

European Publishers Welcome Parliment's 'AI Act' Draft Approval - Publishers Perspectives

According to Porter Anderson's post, the European Parliament has approved a draft with rules to standardize the use of artificial intelligence (AI). The post is divided into two sections. The first section deals with AI's use of copyrighted material and the transparency of that use. The second section deals with other known uses of AI. This is a draft and not a final proposal.

He was 89 years old.

Court to Hear Bids by Amazon, Publishers to Dismiss Revived Price Fixing Case - Publishers Weekly

According to Andrew Albanese's post, Amazon and the Big 5 publishers are being accused in court of ebook price fixing. This is a case which was dismissed in September of last year and has now been refiled. The case accuses Amazon and the Big 5 of working together and keeping the price of ebooks high. The case was dismissed last year for lack of evidence. Amazon's attorneys say the case hasn't changed and should be dismissed again.

Panzer says, "This little kitty never heard about some of the podcasts."

77 Writing Contests in June 2023 - No entry fees - Publishing ... and Other Forms of Insanity

Erica Verrillo's post lists 77 contests with deadlines in June. There are contests for fiction, nonfiction, poetry, novels and short stories. None of the contests charges an entry fee. Some of the them do have submission restrictions.

Panzer say, "Be sure to read the submission guidelines before you enter."

Note: The post is very long because it includes 77 contests, so you'll need to decide what to bring to eat and drink while you read.
