2026 Locus Award Winners

It's a huge list.

Today Panzer stopped in at the Locus Magazine Blog. If you're a science fiction, fantasy or horror fan you're probably familiar with Locus.

 

The Locus Science Fiction Foundation 2026 Locus Awards winners and the nominees in each of the 18 categories are listed at the site. The categories cover fiction, non-fiction, illustrators, editors, and publishers.

Today, Panzer's trip into the Catosphere took him to the Publishing ... and Other Forms of Insanity site. There he discovered an announcement about agents looking for clients.

 

Erica Verrillo posted a list of 10 new agents looking for writing clients. Included in the list is a short bio for each agent and where to contact them.

 

Panzer says, "Always read the information at the agent's site before you submit to them."

54 Writing Contests in April 2024 - no entry fees - Publishing ... and Other Forms of Insanity

Hurry. Some deadlines are soon.

When Panzer was out tootling around in the Catosphere today, he made a stop at the Publishing ... and Other Forms of Insanity site. There he found a post about April's writing contests.

 

Erica Verrillo's post lists 54 writing contests which don't charge an entry fee.  There are contests for science fiction, poetry, humorous poetry, nonfiction, short stories and more. Some of the contests have restrictions and some have April 1 submission deadlines.

 

Panzer says, "Be sure to read the submission rules."

2024 DragonCon Is Coming

I need a lot of rest before the Con.

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he decided to make a trip to the DragonCon site. Our inquisitive kitty wanted to see how things are progressing for this year's Con.  Panzer attended once and he's planning for all the fun and noise and excitement this year. There are humans dressed in costumes everywhere. The Con runs August 29 - September 2 in Atlanta, GA.

 

If you're interested in DragonCon, you have two opportunities to get involved right now.

 

First, the 2024 submission guidelines for the DragonConTV fun.are posted at the site. If you want to make a spoof, parody, music, or fan video to be broadcast on DragonConTV now is the time to get started. Be sure to follow all the rules exactly or you'll be disqualified.

Second, now is the time to get started with the DragonCon Awards process.You don't need to be a member to nominate or vote for the novel, book cover, comic book or graphic novel, TV series, movie, or games in the Awards Program. Follow the rules now to get started.

On July 19 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. (PDT) The Enduring Genius of  Ray Bradbury will be livestreamed on Zoom.  The event will include discussions of Ray Bradbury's work by authors, an editor, and an SF expert.

Free Podcast episode: ChatGPT and Creating Fiction · Writer's Fun Zone

Today Panzer went to the Writer's Fun Zone. There he visited fantasy and science fiction novelist Beth Barany's  How To Write The Future podcast. Last week Panzer told you about AI uses for narrating novels, but this podcast is about using it for writing.

 

Episode 29 of the podcast, ChatGPT and Creating Fiction, consists of a lesson demonstrating how she uses ChatGPT in her writing. She uses it to create a story summary, to create a shorter story summary. to create a character arc, and more character enhancements. She explains the instructions as she gives them to ChatGPT. Show Notes and a Transcript of the episode are included below the audio broadcast. The podcast is free.

 

Will AI take over the world?

Panzer says, "It's an informative episode, but you do need to read the Transcript to understand what she's talking about."

Norwescon and the Philip K. Dick Award

 Panzer here.

Mom was so busy last week she forgot to tell you about Norwescon. Norwescon is an annual science fiction and fantasy convention.

The convention was held in SeaTac (Washington)  April 14 - 17. It was a hybrid con held in person and online. Mom did the online version. There were panels about writing, publishing and illustrating, and presentations with fighting with a broad sword, music, cosplay and a lot more.

Now ... Back to what I do best.

 

The Philip K. Dick Award was presented during the convention too. The winner was Dead Space by Kali Wallace and a special citation was given to The Escapement by Lavie Tidhar.

 

 

SF Author W. Bradford Smith Fund Raiser

Those of you who follow this blog regularly know we usually cover black cats, indie publishing, writing, and humor in our posts..

Today Panzer made a stop at the Publishing ... and Other Forms of Insanity site. With a little digging in the posts our inquisitive kitty found one about writing conferences scheduled in May.

Mystery is my middle name.

The post by Erica Verrillo lists twenty-two conferences. The conferences are all either online or by phone. There are poetry conferences, fiction conferences, nonfiction conferences, and even a science fiction conference. It looks like there's a conference for everyone except mystery writers. Use the included links to see how much each conference is charging to attend.

Panzer says, "Unfortunately, some of the conferences have April registration deadline dates, so it's too late to signup to attend them."
