Today, Panzer made a trip to The Rap Sheet site. There our traveling kitty found a post about CrimeFest convention in the U.K..

 

In his post J. Kingston Pierce lists the CrimeFest award winners and those also nominated. As Panzer told you earlier this month, CrimeFest announced on their site they are closing down. The post also includes links to other information about the closing and reactions to it.

 

Panzer says, "This little kitty will miss them."

CrimeFest - The International Crime Fiction Convention - Awards Shortlist

The convention is in the UK.

Panzer stopped in at the CrimeFest site and found the announcement of the nominees for this year's awards.

 

The winner in each of the seven categories will be announced on May 17.

 

Click the link below to go to the CrimeFest site. Upon arrival at the site an announcement about CrimeFest closing this year appears. Click the Close button in the upper right corner of the announcement. Scroll down to the list of Awards in the black box. Click each award to see the nominee's list for that award.(Sometimes, the announcement doesn't appear and you're taken to the long list of entries instead of the nominees list. Don't ask me why. Dragon Con 3024 Tickets Available Now

It's a huge convention.

Panzer wants you to know, if you plan to attend Dragon Con this year, the list of the special guest attendees is now available online.

 

Dragon Con will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, August 29 - September 2. Ticket prices are currently $160, but will increase to $175 on June 14.

The first link below will take you to the Event Guests page. The list includes actors, illustrators, writers and many more.

The second link below will take you to the Ticket Purchase page, but on the left side of the page are links to the Apparel and Merchandise Vendor and Workshop pages. In the Workshop section you'll find several for writers.

Your Free Something Is Going To Happen Mystery Blog Post: ShortCon

Looks interesting.

For those of you interested in writing conventions as much as he is, Panzer stopped in at the Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine's Something Is Going To Happen blog and found something for you.

 

There's a post by Michael Bracken called ShortCon. The post describes a short fiction convention to be held June 22 in Virginia. It lists the presenters and their seminar topics.

Free BookFest Replays Available

I am still recovering from last week.

Last week Panzer and Mom went to Book Brush's BookMARCon. The con ran online Thursday through Sunday afternoon. They had a lot of fun and learned a lot.

 

Because the BookFest con ran Saturday and Sunday, they missed it. However, when Panzer went into the Catosphere today, he discovered BookFest had uploaded both days' events to YouTube. So, if you missed it, you can watch it online.

Bloody Scotland - Scotland's International Crime Writing Festival

It really is interesting and fun.

Today Panzer made a trip to the Bloody Scotland site.

 

The International Crime Writing Festival begins September 15 and ends September 17. If you can't attend in person, this is your last chance to get get tickets for the online events. The link below takes you to a list of all the events and their prices.

Panzer says, "The list is arranged by date. The online events are reasonably priced."

Barnes&Noble to Host Inaugural Book Tok Festival - Publishers Weekly

It's been a while since Panzer has been to the Publishers Weekly site, so he decided to make a stop there today. With a little digging in the posts, he found one about Barnes and Noble and Book Tok.

 

Didn't take long for tickets to sell out.

According to Sophia Stewart's post, the first Book Tok Festival is scheduled at the Barnes and Noble Union Square, NYC store. Called B&N Toks Books, it's on February 4. Plans include publishers' booths and author talks.

 

Panzer says, " There's a link for tickets, but don't bother. They're sold out.

Norwescon and the Philip K. Dick Award

Mom was so busy last week she forgot to tell you about Norwescon. Norwescon is an annual science fiction and fantasy convention.

The convention was held in SeaTac (Washington)  April 14 - 17. It was a hybrid con held in person and online. Mom did the online version. There were panels about writing, publishing and illustrating, and presentations with fighting with a broad sword, music, cosplay and a lot more.

Now ... Back to what I do best.

 

The Philip K. Dick Award was presented during the convention too. The winner was Dead Space by Kali Wallace and a special citation was given to The Escapement by Lavie Tidhar.

 

 

Pandemic Won't Cancel CrimeFest Prizes - The Rap Sheet

 Panzer didn't even make back home for a nap, before he heard clapping and cheering outside the Panzermobile. Following all the jocularity took our busy kitty boy to The Rap Sheet site. There he found a post about CrimeFest.

 

Some familiar names on that list, but not mine.

According to the post by J. Kingston Pierce, although The International Crime Fiction Convention CrimeFest has been cancelled this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic the prizes will still be awarded. The winners will be announced online. The post includes the complete short list. The post also includes a link to a post on the Shots site with information about some of the entries and the history of CrimeFest.

Panzer says, "This little kitty wishes they had the whole convention online."

Free Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention for writers and fans

 We couldn't post yesterday as our internet service was down. Again.

But we're back online today.

Not knowing how long we'll have internet access today, Panzer made a quick trip into the Catosphere. While there our speedy little kitty boy heard clapping and cheering outside the Panzermobile. Following all the noise took him to The Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention site. He discovered all the hullabaloo was because the online convention attendance is free.

To see information about the programs and presenters, go to the Home site. Click the Programs button to see what will be offered. Click the Presenters button to the biography for each presenter. If you've decided you want to attend, hover your cursor over the About tab at the top. Click the SFFCon 2020 button for attendance instructions. You can view the programs on Facebook or YouTube. (If you continue down this page to the convention schedule, it appears you can click the links to watch from this page too.) The convention starts Friday and concludes Sunday.

A long weekend.

Panzer says, "Whether you're an SFF writer of a fan there is something for everyone. The convention is put together in different tracks. There is a Creative Track (writers and indie publishers), a Genre Fan Track and a Breakout Sessions Track."

Of Boosts and Blunders - The Rap Sheet

An exemplary human.

Panzer wasn't in the Catosphere a minute today before the Panzermobile was buffeted by clapping and cheering. Following all the raucous noise took our brave kitty to The Rap Sheet site.

According to a post by J. Kingston Pierce, all the celebrating is about the announcement that Robert Randisi, founder of the Private Eye Writers of America, has been chosen for the John Seigenthaler Legends Award by the Killer Tennessee convention organizers.

Panzer says, "Way to go Mr. Randisi! Not bad for a human! (Just for the sake of cat honesty, Mom and I belong to the Private Eye Writers of America.)

Note: It'll just be a cup of tea for today's reading. (The first paragraph of the post is all that's about the award.)
