For those of you interested in writing conventions as much as he is, Panzer stopped in at the Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine's Something Is Going To Happen blog and found something for you.

 

There's a post by Michael Bracken called ShortCon. The post describes a short fiction convention to be held June 22 in Virginia. It lists the presenters and their seminar topics.

Writing Dialog - SleuthSayers

You should listen to what he says..

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he decided to make a stop at the SleuthSayers' blog. There he found a post by Michael Bracken. Michael Bracken has written novels, hundreds of short stories, edited several anthologies, and is a past president of the Short Mystery Society.

The post is about the rules of writing dialog told as a short story. The short story illustrates each of the rules as the characters talk.

Panzer says, "And it's cute too."

If I Should Die Before I Wake - SleuthSayers

All cats and writers need to read this.

Today, Panzer decided to make a quick stop at the SleuthSayers site. There with a little digging in the posts, our inquisitive kitty found a post about the important preparations writers need to make before they die.

Michael Bracken's post brings up special things writers need to do. These are things to help their family members take care of the writing business and their royalty payments, the rights to their work, their obituary, and other business duties. This is a serious post.

Panzer says, "This little kitty never thought of writing his own obituary."

Panzer stopped in at writer Michael Bracken's Crime Fiction Writer blog.

Michael is blogging about the importance of transferring the information that's in your head to your story so the reader knows why something happens. This is something Panzer and I ran into yesterday. We were describing a scene outside the window of the building where the heroine was and realized the window had just materialized in the room. We should have described the existence and location of the window earlier when she walked into the room.
