He started Books on Tape?

According to a post at the Publishers Weekly site by Shannon Maughan, Duvall Hecht passed away on February 10.

 

In 1975 he became a pioneer in the audio book field when he started Books on Tape. The company recorded books on cassette tapes and rented them to be played on cassette players in cars.

Let Us Pay Our Condolences - The Rap Sheet

Panzer made a trip to The Rap Sheet site today. There he found a post about the recent deaths of five authors, actors and a television producer.

RIP

According to the post by The Rap Sheet site owner J. Kingston Pierce, five well-known mystery authors, actors and a television producer have died recently. Topping the list is Mary Higgins Clark, author of 50 mystery novels. The post includes quotes from each of the five obituaries, plus links to the actors' shows and the television producer's shows.

Panzer says, "Mary Higgins Clark wrote some pretty scary thrillers."

If I Should Die Before I Wake - SleuthSayers

All cats and writers need to read this.

Today, Panzer decided to make a quick stop at the SleuthSayers site. There with a little digging in the posts, our inquisitive kitty found a post about the important preparations writers need to make before they die.

Michael Bracken's post brings up special things writers need to do. These are things to help their family members take care of the writing business and their royalty payments, the rights to their work, their obituary, and other business duties. This is a serious post.

Panzer says, "This little kitty never thought of writing his own obituary."

Ursula K. Le Guin, Acclaimed for her Fantasy Fiction, Is Dead at 88 - The New York Times

Panzer is a sad kitty today. He learned at The New York Times site that one of his favorite fantasy authors, Ursula K. Le Guin,  has passed away.

According to the obituary by Gerald Jonas, Ursula K. Le Guin, author of The Lathe of Heaven and The Left Hand of Darkness, died on January 22 in her Portland, Oregon home at 88 years old.

Panzer says, "The Lathe of Heaven was one of this little kitty's favorite books when he was a kitten."

Ed Gorman - "He Leaves Behind a Great Literary Legacy" - The Rap Sheet

Panzer doesn't usually post on the weekend, but he learned some sad news today in a post at The Rap Sheet site.

According to the post by J. Kingston Pierce, prolific writer and author Ed Gorman has passed away. He died on Friday, October 14. Mr. Gorman was the author of mystery, private eye, horror, science fiction, fantasy, and western novels. He also wrote short stories in those genres as well. Over the years he also collected numerous awards for his work.

Panzer says, "Mom read Ed Gorman's mysteries to me when I was just a kitten. I think that's where I got my love of "whodunits."
