Today Panzer made a stop at the Publishing ... and Other Forms of Insanity site. With no digging at all there our inquisitive kitty boy found a post about writing markets.

111? This will take a while.
Erica Verrillo's post lists 111 markets which are open for submissions in May. The list includes markets for fiction, flash fiction, short stories, novellas, comics, and markets for nonfiction, essays, articles and poetry. All have May deadlines for submission, except for a few listed at the end with June 1 deadlines. Some of the markets in the main list have a May 1 deadline.

Panzer says, "Be sure to read the submission guidelines because some of the markets have restrictions."

Note: This is a humongous post. Plan to bring your lunch and dinner for today's reading selection.

Guest Post: Essential Marketing Tools for Writers in 2022 - Digital Pubbing

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Digital Pubbing site. There our intrepid kitty traveler found a post about marketing for writers.

Can't test them if you can't find them.
The guest post by Dee Survilla lists five online tools which writers can use for marketing their books. Based on the descriptions and how to use them in the post the tools appear to be useful in book marketing. Unfortunately, there aren't links to the individual sites to check out the tools included in the post.

Panzer says, "I guess this little kitty will just have to do a Google search for each one."

This is a medium length post. Bring a cup of tea for today's reading selection.

A Panzerism

 Panzer on moral concepts:

Mom said, "Bad kitty," when I scratched the couch.

You know ...

What's His Name always says she's pretty smart ...

And ...

she always knows what's right.

So I thought about what Mom said for a long time in between my morning nap and my noon nap.

And ...

This is what I decided:

Sorry ... You're wrong again Mom.
There are two ways to look at it ...

My way ...

And ...

The wrong way.

Norwescon and the Philip K. Dick Award

 Panzer here.

Mom was so busy last week she forgot to tell you about Norwescon. Norwescon is an annual science fiction and fantasy convention.

The convention was held in SeaTac (Washington)  April 14 - 17. It was a hybrid con held in person and online. Mom did the online version. There were panels about writing, publishing and illustrating, and presentations with fighting with a broad sword, music, cosplay and a lot more.
Now ... Back to what I do best.

The Philip K. Dick Award was presented during the convention too. The winner was Dead Space by Kali Wallace and a special citation was given to The Escapement by Lavie Tidhar.

Junk Book Marketing: Book Fair "Representation" - Writer Beware

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Writer Beware site. There with some digging in the posts our intrepid traveling kitty boy found one about junk book marketing.

Panzer says, Always check Writer Beware first.
Always check Writer Beware first.
Victoria Strauss' post is divided into two sections. The first section of the post starts by explaining why paying for mass emailings of press releases, book trailers made with stock images and bad voice-overs, and several other dubious marketing campaigns are categorized as junk book marketing. The second section of the post is devoted to book fair representation marketing. This includes paying to have your book sit on a shelf with other books and paying for an advertisement in the representatives "magazine." Included in the section is a photo of one of the book fair marketing booths to illustrate why this is junk book marketing too. There are several links in the post to supporting information as well.

Panzer says, "Humans will believe anything."

Note: This is a long post. Bring a cup of tea and a large muffin for your reading. If you plan to follow the links in the post, you'll have to decide what else to bring to eat and drink.

A Panzerism

Panzer on the human misconception of their own importance:

Mom told me that if parents compliment their children it boosts their confidence.
She said that's a good thing and why she compliments everyone.

But ...

She needs to learn you don't ever compliment a cat.
N-o-o-o ... a real bad idea.

Cats will always take such sentiments and turn them into moments of disbelief ...

and ...

then hilarity.

Panzer say, Good Kitty? You're kidding right?
Good Kitty? You're kidding right?*
How dare a mere human ...

an inferior species to cats ...

pass judgement on us ...

with statements like "Good Kitty" and "What a smart boy"?
