MWA Announces 2025 Edgar Award Nominations

Some Mom read to me. Some she hasn't yet.

On his travels today Panzer stopped in at the Mystery Writers of America (MWA) site. On the site he discovered the nominees for the Edgar Awards have been announced. The nominees for 13 awards are listed on the blog.

Panzer says, "They give awards for novels, TV shows, short stories and more."

Best Buy Will Now Haul Away Your Old TV, Appliances for $199 - C/Net

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the C/Net site. Boy is our kitty boy happy he went there. Just in time for Earth Day he found a post about a new service Best Buy is starting.

Earth Day.

According to Kourtnee Jackson's post, Best Buy will now come to your home to pickup TVs and large appliances for recycling for $199. There is a limit of two large items.You can also get pickup for smaller items like vacuums, ereaders and headphones for recycling for $30. There is no limit on the number small items. The post includes links to see what's on the list for pickup, to schedule a pickup and store locations.

Panzer says, "A few weeks ago Mom had What's His Name take an old printer and some empty toner cartridges for recycle to our local Best Buy."

 Today Panzer made a stop at The Rap Sheet site. There he found a post about the new Crime Fiction Lover awards.

 

According to J. Kingston Pierce's post, Crime Fiction Lover has six new international Crime Fiction Lover Awards. These are reader nominated and voted for awards. Nominations are open until noon November 10. All the information and rules are listed in the post at The Rap Sheet site. The post has a link to the Crime Fiction Lover site and also a link to the award nomination form.

These 12 Free TV Apps Let You Watch Your Favorite Shows - Without the Bill - The Penny Hoarder

Day before yesterday Panzer found $50 wifi internet access for you. Today in his Catosphere travels he went to The Penny Hoarder site. After a little digging in the posts our determined kitty found one with information about free TV apps in a post by Chris Brantner.

 

Just what I need to nap to.

The apps work on computers, smart TVs, Windows, and different streaming devices. Be sure to read the descriptions to make sure it will Day work for you. There are movies, TV series (both new and old), classic TV, and children's TV shows.

Heard of VUDU for Streaming Movies and TV Series?

Today as Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere, he remembered something Mom said. Our inquisitive kitty boy heard Mom telling What's His Name about this streaming site she found online called VUDU and he wanted to check it out. About a week ago Panzer told you about another site Mom found called Peacock TV.

Mom says, "When in doubt, go with free."

Mom said the VUDU site has two memberships. One is paid and one is free. Mom signed up for the free one so she could test how it works and what's offered. With the right equipment and cables the site can be streamed on to your TV. Rather than do that, Mom just watched some of the offerings on her laptop. The site has movies and TV series. Mom didn't check everything there, but in the free section it doesn't look like there's current movies or TV series, but there are some interesting mystery movies and TV shows. The paid section where you "rent movies" has the newer selections.

Panzer says, "This little kitty isn't sure if this is available outside the U.S., because Mom only found U.S. movies and shows there."

George R. R. Martin Gives Quick Update on Winds of Winter Progress - Tor.com

Today as Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere he decided to make a stop at the Tor.com site. With no digging at all our inquisitive kitty found a post about bestselling author George R. R. Martin. He's the author of the Game of Thrones books and one of Panzer's favorite authors.

Don't bother.

According to Andrew Liptak's post, George R. R. Martin posted on his own blog that because of the Covid-19 quarantine he has been spending a lot of time working on his novel Winds of Winter. It also turns out he's has some tv shows and two movies in the works as well. Andrew Liptak quotes extensively from George R. R. Martin's post. There is a link in the post to George R. R. Martin's site if you want to read his original post.

Panzer says, "Don't bother to read the Comment section. Some of them got deleted by the Moderator, some are whiny and a few are okay; but mostly it's a waste of your time."

The Netherlands' NL Film Signs Development Partnership With Canada's Wattpad - Publishing Perspectives

Panzer was shaken awake from his nap by clapping and cheering coming from the Catosphere. Hopping into the Panzermobile, our sleep-deprived kitty followed all the noise to the Publishing Perspectives site. With a little digging he found a post about Canadian company Wattpad Studios.

According to Publishing Perspective's Editor-in-Chief Porter Anderson, Wattpad Studios and the Netherlands' NL Film have announced a new partnership. Wattpad Studios is Wattpad's books to screen division. Under the agreement NL Film will have first rights to YA literature in the Dutch language which the company deems suitable for screen (movie/tv) development. Don't wake me until tomorrow.

Harlequin Unveils New Film/TV Arm - Publishers Weekly

Harlequin Romance Movies?

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the Publishers Weekly site. There with no digging at all he discovered a post about publisher Harlequin.

According to Rachel Deahl, romance publisher Harlequin has announced the formation of a new company division called Harlequin Studios. Publisher Harlequin has rights to 30.000 books available for Harlequin Studios. Harlequin Studios has already contracted for 20 tv movies.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... This little kitty thinks Harlequin Studios wants to give Hallmark Channel some competition in the romance genre. What do you think?"

7 million users in the Philippines as Wattpad's tencent-backed Asia plans step up a gear - The New Publishing Standard

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard clapping and cheering. Following all the hullabaloo took our adventuresome kitty pilot to The New Publishing Standard site. With no digging at all he discovered a post about Wattpad.

According to Mark Williams, Wattpad has just finished a new funding round. Wattpad started as a site for writers to post their work for readers to comment on and refer their friends to read. It has over time grown into much more. Wattpad has over 65 million users world-wide of which 7 million are located in the Philippines. With the new funding, Wattpad is making an expansion in the SE Asia market. Their recent funding with Kickstart Ventures added telco to their already existing partnering with TV5 for furthering that expansion in the Philippines. The post includes much more information on the planned SE Asia expansion and information about Tencent, Wattpad's other funding investor. Also included are quotes from other posts and links to post.

I see an interesting future for Wattpad.

Stephen King About Books

He is scary sometimes.

Panzer was out in the Catosphere this morning.

Our big brave kitty heard moaning and screaming and crying outside the Panzermobile. Using his Cat Radar he followed all the noise to The New York Times site. He found an interview with horror (and now mystery) author Stephen King.

In the interview Mr. King discusses his favorite books as a child, as an adult, what he's reading now and much more. So, if you're a fan of Mr. King's books, here's your chance to learn all about his reading habits. You'll also learn about his foray into the mystery field with the Hodges trilogy. According to him, they are set to become a TV series.

Panzer says, "His books are kind of scary, but he is funny in this interview."

Characters Murdered On The Game of Thrones Set

You'll be sorry!

Panzer got woken up from his nap by a bunch of yowling and hissing and crying. Our big brave kitty explorer hopped in the Panzermobile and hit the Catosphere at warp speed.

It took some interesting cat acrobatics to find the source of all the noise, but with persistence our kitty boy found it at Roger Friedman's Showbiz 411.

And ... Panzer can't believe what Mr. Friedman posted George R. R. Martin said about this coming season's Game of Thrones.

They won't be following Mr. Martin's books as closely as before.

Our poor kitty can barely keep from crying and yowling himself.

Now ... They'll be killing off characters who survive in the books!

Panzer says, "Stop! Don't kill my favorite characters! How can you do that?"

J. K. Rowling's Novel The Casual Vacancy Ending Changed

I hate when the show isn't like the book!

Panzer headed out into the Catosphere today looking for news for you. After tootling around for a while, our kitty boy adventurer stopped in at The Bookseller site.

Panzer found a post by the staff about the BBC's production of J. K. Rowling's novel The Casual Vacancy. Turns out they didn't like the novel's ending because they found it too "bleak." So, they changed it to make it happier.

Panzer says, "Grrr! Hundreds of thousands of humans (750,000 in the U.K. to be exact) read the book and liked it. but what do they know? Nothing according to the BBC."

Barnes & Noble Teams With Samsung on New Galaxy Tab Nook - GalleyCat

Let's take a look at this new Tablet.

Today, WE visited GalleyCAT. Panzer found a post by Dianna Dilworth about the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook.

My bad boy told you this new co-branded Nook was in the works back in June, so it's no surprise it's here. The surprise is the price: only $179 and you get $200 worth of ebooks and TV shows to go with it. You can order it online or in the Barnes and Noble stores.
