Disney Exits OpenAI Deal After AI Giant Shutters Sora - The Hollywood Reporter

I can only take so much excitement in one day. 

As Panzer was heading home in the Catosphere the Panzermobile was suddenly hit by the sounds of crying and yelling outside. Following all the noise took our brave kitty to The Hollywood Reporter site. There he discovered the demise of the Sora app was the problem.

 

According to Alex Weprin's post, OpenAI announced the closing of the Sora app with more news to come at a later date.

 

Panzer says, "Hmm ... This little kitty wants to know why they're shutting down Sora."

NASA Telescope Captures Epic Collision Between DART Probe and Asteroid Dimorphos - CNet

Panzer found a post at CNet by Jackson Ryan about NASA's DART probe which was launched in November of last year. 

 

The DART probe was crashed into the asteroid Dimorphos as part of a NASA experiment. If the experiment is successful, Dimorphos will have been pushed slightly out of its orbit. NASA won't know until next year if it was successful.

 

Nap time.

Then, if at some time in the future the Earth is threatened by a collision with a space rock/debris/errant asteroid, such a probe can be used to change the object's course.

NASA's Perserverance Studies the Wild Winds of Jezero Crater - NASA

If you've been following Panzer here for a while, you know he loves things space-oriented and especially Mars-oriented.

Wind on Mars?

So, it's no surprise he made a stop at the NASA site when he heard about the Mars Rover Perserverance's new video showing dust devils there.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Announces Its Crew-Including Lieutenant Uhura - Tor.com

Today Panzer found an announcement at the Tor.com site about the new Star Trek series. The new Star Trek will be about the Enterprise before Capt. Kirk took command.

 

According to Emmet Asher-Perrin's post, the new Star Trek series has no start date yet. There's a YouTube video trailer with all the stars introducing themselves at the beginning of the post.

 

I like dreaming about the stars.

Panzer says, "This little kitty has always been a Star Trek fan."

Forming an Entity: When Should Authors Create an LLC or S Corp? - Authors Guild

On today's trip into the Catosphere Panzer found an interesting video about when, why and if authors need to form an LLC or an S Corp.

 

Guess I'm not ready for either.

The video is part of the Authors Guild's Money Matters seminar series. It's moderated by Erin Lowry with entertainment associate Daniel Sheerin and accountant Robert Pesce.

 

Including questions and answers at the end, the video is almost an hour long. It's available for viewing at the Authors Guild site or on YouTube.

'Bookseller to the Stars': Chapters Bookstore Dublin inadvertently launch parody sketch series - Irish Examiner

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard laughing and chortling outside the Panzermobile. Following all the clapping took our inquisitive kitty boy to the Irish Examiner site. There he discovered a post about a "joke" video demonstrating how to shelve books in a bookstore.

I just can't quit watching it.

The post by Ciaran Sunderland describes how the video became a viral sensation online. The video was done by staff members at the Chapters Bookstore Dublin (Ireland). It was recorded by cellphone, edited and posted online. The video is included and clickable in the post.

Panzer says, "That guy in the video acts a lot like What's His Name when he's telling Mom how to do something."

Mom is sick with a cold, so Panzer made a very quick trip into the Catosphere today. Our traveling kitty stopped in at the Pottermore site. There he found a video trailer for the new J.K. Rowling Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald movie.

How many naps until the movie?

After you watch the trailer scroll down and read all the explanations and descriptions that go with it. According to the trailer and the explanation, the movie is about Dumbledore and Newt against Grindelwald.

Panzer says, "The video is really exciting. This little kitty can't wait to see the movie!"

Peak-a-boo! I see you!

Panzer was shaken from his evening nap by laughing and clapping. Taking the Panzermobile into the Catosphere he discovered all the hoopla was coming from the BoingBoing site. It didn't take any digging at all to find the post about cats and boxes that was causing all the noise.

According to the post by Rob Beschizza, cats like boxes because ... we're predators ... and ... we're bored in the house. There's a video explaining it all to you humans.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Humans needed science and a video to explain we're predators."

Wattpad Introduces Video Ads Within Stories - Book Business

Panzer stopped in at the Book Business site today. There our traveling kitty reporter found a post about Wattpad. Wattpad is the site that allows authors to post their writing for members to read and comment on.

According to the post by Ellen Harvey, Wattpad is offering a new service for their authors. The program is called Wattpad Futures. The program will place video ads in the chapter breaks of an author's novel. Each reader's viewing of an ad will generate a payment for the author. Thus the program allows authors to have an income stream from their writing at Wattpad. The post includes Wattpad's original press release about the program.

Think you'll be one of the chosen few?

Panzer says, "Wait a second kittens before you rush out to sign up for the program. It's a by-invitation-only program. So ... sign up for Wattpad ... but don't expect to jump right into the program."

Panzer got woken from his Sunday afternoon nap by raucous laughter and cheers coming from the Catosphere. Our brave kitty hopped in the Panzermobile to find out what was going on. Following all the noise took him to the GalleyCAT site.

All the hub bub was caused by a post there by Maryann Yin about Newt Scamander. Newt Scamander is the hero in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie. Included in the post is a video teaser about the movie featuring author J.K. Rowling.

Panzer says, "I can't wait to see the movie!"

Behind-the-Scenes Video Examines a Game of Thrones Battle Between Bastxxds - GalleyCAT

Harper Collins Is Sponsoring Shelfie Contest

We're having computer problems so Panzer's trip into the Catosphere was short today. Our intrepid kitty pilot found a post at the HarperCollins Publishers site.

Let's look into this.

According to the post, the book publisher is sponsoring a shelfie contest. They want entrants to make a video of their bookshelf and explain why they like books. The winner will get ... books of course. The post contains all the rules (be sure to read them) and how to submit your video.

Panzer says, "Mom doesn't just have one bookshelf, she has bookshelves everywhere. There's a bookcase in the living room. There are two bookshelves in the bedroom. There are bookshelves on two walls in her office. It would be really hard to choose which shelf to use in the video."

Book publishing is a resilient business: Kobo CEO

Panzer made a trip today to the CNBC site. With some digging around and rearranging of posts, he found one about Kobo.

50 to 80 years old?

The post by Luke Graham includes a video of an interview with Kobo CEO Michael Tamblyn. Mr. Tamblyn states in the interview that Kobo found in a study that 50 to 80 year olds are the ones driving the ereading business, not the 20 to 30 year olds as previously thought. It was also found that these same readers buy both ebooks and print books. Included beneath the video is a recap of the interview as well as extra information about audio books and their sales.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Who's buying all those adult coloring books then? Is it the 20 to 30 year olds or the 50 to 80 year olds? Inquiring cats want to know."

Follett Corp. Buys Baker & Taylor - PW (Publishers' Weekly)

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the Publishers' Weekly site. There, a little digging by our kitty explorer brought to light some news about distributor Follett Corporation.

They own college bookstores too, right?

According to a post by Jim Milliot, Follett Corp. has completed the purchase of Baker and Taylor. Follett distributes books, both print and digital, to libraries, preschool through high school, and to schools and colleges. Baker and Taylor distributes books, videos and music to public libraries and institutions. The acquisition by Follett of Baker and Taylor is an obvious market consolidation tactic that will create a juggernaut in the product distribution market to schools, colleges and libraries.

Panzer says, "Who says Amazon is the only behemoth sellers have to watch out for?"

Harry Potter Fans Create the Severus Snape and The Marauders Movie - Galleycat

Panzer's trip today took him to one of his favorite sites, GalleyCAT. Just one little paw flick brought up a post about Harry Potter.

Whew! I need a nap after all that.

In the post by Maryann Yin, our intrepid kitty boy learned some interesting news about Harry Potter fans. The fan group at Broad Strokes Productions has put together a YouTube video called Severus Snape and The Mauraders. The video deals with Severus Snape and James Potter's time at Hogwarts. This is a well-done production. There are also several links included in the post to other GalleyCAT posts with Harry Potter information.

Panzer says, "I didn't embed the video here because it's almost 26 minutes long."
