Today, Panzer made a quick stop at the Internet Archive Blog. There our inquisitive kitty boy found a post about the public domain release on January 1.

 

Sterling Dudley's post lists many of the 1930 materials that lose copyright protection and go into the public domain in the U.S. 

 

 Panzer says, "There are links to movies, music, books, and more."

Introducing Amazon's all new lineup of smart glasses: A first look ... About Amazon

 On today's stop at the About Amazon site Panzer found a post about Amazon's smart glasses.

My glasses. I'd say, "Alexa open the door."

The staff written post contains information about the new smart eyeglass frames and improvements made to Alexa as well. Performance enhancements have also been made to the music feature. Pricing and pre-order information are included in the post. Links to other information about the glasses are also included.

Panzer says, "It's the first time this little heard about these glasses."

Free Mysteries To Die For Podcast - Season 5: Move It or Lose It

Today Panzer found you a free mystery podcast at the Mysteries To Die For site.

 

The music is not easy to nap to.

The site features stories based on a theme. This season's theme is Move It or Lose It.  The first story of the season is, Party Boat by Ed Teja. The episode is 1 hour+ long. There is an episode intro and then a music background throughout the story which adds to the episode's length.

 

Panzer says, "It's an interesting way to put a mystery podcast together. It's a little hard to figure out who the killer is with so much going on."

Why All The Christmas Stuff This Week?

 Panzer here.

Some of you humans have been asking Mom why we/re doing all the Christmas music, audio books, movies, jokes and stuff this week.

It's because Mom's Grandpa was born on Christmas day. Because of that, he never got to celebrate his birthday when he was growing up. No party. No cake. No games. No music. Nothing at all, because it would interfere with the family Christmas celebration.

When he became an adult, he still didn't want to celebrate his birthday on Christmas. He would just pick a day in the week before Christmas and celebrate his birthday with cake, music, games, and/or a movie. Each year he would pick a different date and it would be a surprise to his family.

Mom's Grandpa is gone now, but she thought it would be fun to celebrate every day this week.

So... 

 

Happy Birthday All Week, Grandpa.

Public Domain Day 2022 - Center fo the Study of the Public Domain (Duke University)

Today as Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere he heard clapping and cheering outside the Panzermobile. Following all the hullabaloo took our adventuresome kitty boy to the Duke University Center for the Study of the Public Domain. There he found a post about what materials are now entering the Public Domain.

 

According to the post by Jennifer Jenkins, on January 1 material copyrighted in 1926 went into the Public Domain. This material includes books of children and adult fiction, nonfiction and poetry. Also entering the Public Domain are sound recordings "published" before 1923. This material includes music and movies. The post has lists of some of the more famous books, movies and music which is now in the Public Domain. Entering the Public Domain means anyone can get, have, and share the material.

 

Humans will do anything for money.

Panzer says, "Just like when Sherlock Holmes went into the Public Domain, Amazon is going to be flooded with people publishing this "new" Public Domain stuff."

A Merry Jingle Cats Christmas - Melissa's Mochas, Mysteries & Meows

Only 17 days.

As Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere today, he heard the most melodious sounds outside the Panzermobile. Following the wonderful music took our enchanted kitty boy to Melissa's Mochas, Mysteries and Meows site.

 

According to the post he found at the site, Mudpie the cat took over the blog for the day. In the spirit of Christmas Mudpie posted Silent Night sung by the Jingle Cats. There's nothing in the world more wonderful than cats singing. The post also includes a link to the Jingle Cats YouTube channel where you'll find even more music.

 

Panzer says, "You really, really, really need to follow that link. There are twenty Christmas carols by the Jingle Cats there. If they don't get you into the Christmas spirit, nothing will.

Amazon unveils musical keyboard that uses AI to compose surprisingly good original songs - Geek Wire

It's that time of the week again. The time when Panzer cleans the Panzermobile. Today our fastidious kitty found a post from the Geek Wire site. While it's not a post about publishing or writing, it is a post about Amazon.

AI will never replace cats.

According to the post by Todd Bishop, there is now an AI music composer keyboard called DeepComposer. It contains Rock, Pop, Jazz, Classical, and Build Your Own models. A human gives DeepComposer the beginning of a song and the AI finishes the composition and adds other instruments. There's a video included in the post that explains how DeepComposer works. The AI-Human composed music is near the end of the video.

Panzer says, "It seemed interesting to this little kitty."

Follett Corp. Buys Baker & Taylor - PW (Publishers' Weekly)

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the Publishers' Weekly site. There, a little digging by our kitty explorer brought to light some news about distributor Follett Corporation.

They own college bookstores too, right?

According to a post by Jim Milliot, Follett Corp. has completed the purchase of Baker and Taylor. Follett distributes books, both print and digital, to libraries, preschool through high school, and to schools and colleges. Baker and Taylor distributes books, videos and music to public libraries and institutions. The acquisition by Follett of Baker and Taylor is an obvious market consolidation tactic that will create a juggernaut in the product distribution market to schools, colleges and libraries.

Panzer says, "Who says Amazon is the only behemoth sellers have to watch out for?"

Make a Soundtrack to Your Book Using Booktrack - GalleyCat

Booktrack?

Panzer was over at GalleyCAT today.  He's been researching what's involved in adding music to an ebook.

My bad boy found a post at GalleyCAT that has a link to a YouTube video about Booktrack. It turns out Booktrack gives you the ability to add not only music, but sound effects to wherever you want in your ebook.

Our traveling cat captain took the Panzermobile over to  the Booktrack site to check it out on his own. He learned Booktrack works with Google Chrome, Opera, and Firefox. (Sorry Internet Explorer users.) There are several links to tutorials for YouTube videos at the site to help you use the service.
