Today, Panzer made a quick stop at the Internet Archive Blog. There our inquisitive kitty boy found a post about the public domain release on January 1.

 

Sterling Dudley's post lists many of the 1930 materials that lose copyright protection and go into the public domain in the U.S.

Harry Potter Full-Cast AAdds Bill Nighy as Slughorn, 11 Others - The Hollywood Reporter

The post says they'll be out soon.

Panzer's next stop was at The Hollywood Reporter site. If you've been around here for a while, you know Panzer was a big fan of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels and movies. Now, there are going to be Harry Potter audiobooks.

Ethan Vlessing's post says all the voice cast people are chosen and the audiobooks are ready for recording. The post contains a link to an earlier post with the list of who will narrate the other characters.

 

Panzer says, "I like audiobooks because I can listen to them when I'm traveling in the Panzermobile."

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Writer Beware(R) site. There our traveling, inquisitive kitty found a post about the Book-to-Movie scams going around.

 

Before Jeanne Vellette Bowerman's guest post, Victoria Strauss gives an introduction about the current prevalence of these scams. Immediately after the introduction, Jeanne Vellette Bowerman begins with a list of things authors don't need to do or buy to get their books considered to be made into a movie.  These all involve money going from the author to the scammers. There follows an explanation of the Books-to-Movie parts. The post includes links to more information.

OverDrive to acquire Kanopy - Publishers Weekly

 Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Publishers Weekly site. With no digging at all he found a post about OverDrive and Kanopy.

 

According to the post by Andrew Albanese, OverDrive is buying Kanopy. OverDrive is the major supplier of materials to libraries. Kanopy is a library service which makes documentary videos, movies and educational videos available to library patrons for free. There are links included in the post about OverDrive's previous acquisitions. There's no real information about what the acquisition will mean for the continuation of Kanopy.

Goodbye Kanopy?

Amazon buys MGM, setting up Prime Videos for James Bond, Rocky to move in - CNet

As Panzer was taking his after lunch nap his kitty bed was violently shaken and he was thrown to the floor. Not willing to accept such treatment, our angry kitty boy hopped in the Panzermobile and headed into the Catosphere. Following all the raucous noise took him to the C/Net site. There he discovered Amazon was the cause of his problem.

 

You woke me for this? Really?

According to a post at C/Net by Joan E. Solsman, Amazon bought MGM this week. The negotiations had been rumored for weeks, but the announcement was made that Amazon is indeed buying MGM for $8.45 Billion. The post does point out that Amazon won't be immediately streaming MGM movies and tv series on Amazon Prime Video. MGM doesn't own the rights or have control over many of the movies and tv series in its library. The post includes several links to other sites for more information on streaming services.

 
Panzer says, "The post brings up a lot of questions and not many answers. This little kitty wants to know 'What did Amazon really buy?'"

Heard of VUDU for Streaming Movies and TV Series?

Today as Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere, he remembered something Mom said. Our inquisitive kitty boy heard Mom telling What's His Name about this streaming site she found online called VUDU and he wanted to check it out. About a week ago Panzer told you about another site Mom found called Peacock TV.

Mom says, "When in doubt, go with free."

Mom said the VUDU site has two memberships. One is paid and one is free. Mom signed up for the free one so she could test how it works and what's offered. With the right equipment and cables the site can be streamed on to your TV. Rather than do that, Mom just watched some of the offerings on her laptop. The site has movies and TV series. Mom didn't check everything there, but in the free section it doesn't look like there's current movies or TV series, but there are some interesting mystery movies and TV shows. The paid section where you "rent movies" has the newer selections.

Panzer says, "This little kitty isn't sure if this is available outside the U.S., because Mom only found U.S. movies and shows there."

Heard of Peacock TV?

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard clapping and cheering outside the Panzermobile. Following all the hullabaloo took our brave kitty to the Peacock TV site.

This isn't a regular stop for publishing news; instead, it's a site for tv shows and movies. The site has two memberships. One is free and the other is paid. The paid membership is $4.99 per month. With the proper equipment or certain cable TV boxes  you can steam shows and movies to your television. You can also stream to your computer or tablet. Mom signed up for the free membership and is streaming it to her laptop to see how it works and what's offered. So far, she's found shows from the 1950's all the way up to today in the free section. If you move the cursor over the show icon, it tells you how many episodes are available to watch. There's a bunch of movies there too.

Bored? It's worth checking out.

Local trio buy Santa Fe Southern Railroad - Sante Fe New Mexican

Panzer was just tootling along minding his own kitty business when he heard clapping and cheering outside the Panzermobile. Following all the jocularity took our inquisitive kitty boy to the Sante Fe New Mexican site. There he discovered a post about the sale of a railroad spur line to three New Mexico residents.

Trains are really noisy.

According to the post by Robert Nott, the Santa Fe Southern Railroad has been purchased (in alphabetic order) by Bill Banowsky, George R.R. Martin (yes, the Game of Thrones author) and Catherine Oppenheimer. The 18 mile long spur line runs from Sante Fe, New Mexico to Lamy, New Mexico. The trio hope to have a holiday train trip, a speak-easy bar and other entertaining train excursions. They also hope to interest movie makers into using the train for location shoots.

Panzer says, "Some humans never outgrow playing with trains."
