According to Porter Anderson's post, Ashleigh Gardner is leaving her position at Wattpad. The post details her impact on Wattpad over the past decade. Also included is how she helped Wattpad and Wattpad authors grow during that same time period.

Wattpad Continues to Evolve After Acquisition by Naver - Publishers Weekly

 Today, Panzer made a stop at the Publishers Weekly site. There he found a post about Wattpad.

It was expected.

According to Ed Nawotka's post, it's been a year since Korean business Naver bought Candadian business Wattpad. Now, Allen Lau, cofounder of Wattpad, has announced he's leaving Wattpad to become executive advisor at Webtoon. Jeanne Lam, Wattpad president, will be taking over the managing of Wattpad.

Panzer says, "This little kitty was surprised he stayed as long as he did."

All About Amazon Vella

 

Let's look into this.

For the last week all Panzer has been hearing in the Catosphere is about Amazon's Vella. To help you learn about it our inquisitive kitty began a search of his own to gather information.

 

Panzer found opinions and information in a post on a blog, in a YouTube video and on the Amazon site. Vella is Amazon's newest publishing endeavor. On it you can read serialized stories and novels. In that way it's similar to Wattpad. The reader does, however, pay for each installment after the first. That's how Amazon and authors get paid.

 

Panzer says, "Here's some of the interesting stuff I found out there."

Interview: CEO Allen Lau on Wattpad's $600 Million Merger with Korea's Naver - Publishing Perspectives

 Today Panzer made another stop at the Publishing Perspectives site. Yesterday the site had a post about Canada's Wattpad merger with South Korea's Naver. Today the site has an interview with Wattpad CEO Allen Lau about the reason's for the merger.

Maybe a cat comic? I'd read it.

According to Porter Anderson's post, Wattpad CEO Allen Lau is elated about the merger with Naver. The merger will form a combined user base of 160 million. Naver has 72 million users and Wattpad has 90 million users. The post includes some interesting information about the two company's channels/platforms and Wattpad's expansion into comics with Naver's Webtoons.

Panzer says, "This sounds like it will work out fine as long as Wattpad gets to stay a separate company in Canada and doesn't get lost in Naver's future plans."

Canada's Wattpad Announces It's Being Acquired by South Korea's Naver - Publishing Perspectives

 Panzer had hardly entered the Catosphere when the Panzermobile was violently shaken by yelling and screaming coming from outside. Following all the chaos took our brave kitty boy to the Publishing Perspectives site. With no digging at all he found a post about the acquisition of Wattpad was what was causing all the noise.

Surprised me.

According to Porter Anderson's post, Wattpad's board announced the company is being acquired by the South Korean company Naver. Wattpad's acquisition is priced at US$600 million in cash and stock. Wattpad will stay in Canada. In addition to the platform and services, Wattpad Studios division and Wattpad Books will join Naver's Webtoon. The post contains much more information about both and the acquisition.

The Netherlands' NL Film Is Developing a Muslim Romance With Wattpad - Publishing Perspectives

Today Panzer decided to make a stop at the Publishing Perspectives site. With a little digging in the posts our inquisitive kitty found one about Wattpad Studios.

 

According to the post by Porter Anderson, Wattpad Studios and NL Film have entered into a new production agreement. Aron Levitz of Wattpad Studios in Toronto, Canada, and Kaja Wolffers of NL Film in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, will work with Samya Hafsaoui for the film production of her novel. Samya Hafsaoui's Dutch Wattpad novel '36 Questions (and lots of coffee)' is translated as a serial each week on the English-speaking Wattpad. Included in the post are links to previous posts about Wattpad and NL Film and a link to Samya Hafsaoui's Wattpad site.

Wattpad's Verticalization: Now Making Its Own International Adaptions - Publishing Perspectives

Today, Panzer decided to make a stop at the Publishing Perspectives site and boy is he glad he did. There he found a post about Canada's Wattpad's newest plans for expansion.

It makes sense for them to do it.

Porter Anderson's post concerns Wattpad's announcement today about the company's plans for its international adaptions. The post is divided into three sections. The first section describes the company's new plans to adapt content from the platform to produce media ready projects, instead of outsourcing the adaptions. The second section concentrates on quotes from Wattpad Studio's Aron Levitz's views on the company's expansion into the development of Wattpad content into film projects. The third section is a description of the first two projects Wattpad intends to adapt: What Happened That Night and The Hound. PRH to Publish Wattpad Books in UK - Publishers Weekly

They're all children's books.

Panzer was cleaning the windshield (windscreen) of the Panzermobile when he found a post stuck under the wiper. Pulling it out, our fastidious kitty discovered it was a post about Wattpad Books.

According to the Publishers Weekly post by Ed Nawotka, Wattpad Books is Canadian company Wattpad's new young adult press division. US book distribution for Wattpad Books will be by Macmillan and UK publishing and distribution will be by Penguin Random House Children's Books. Three books are already scheduled for August and September and three more in October.

Panzer says, "They sure are off to a quick start with six books in the first three months."

The Netherlands' NL Film Signs Development Partnership With Canada's Wattpad - Publishing Perspectives

Panzer was shaken awake from his nap by clapping and cheering coming from the Catosphere. Hopping into the Panzermobile, our sleep-deprived kitty followed all the noise to the Publishing Perspectives site. With a little digging he found a post about Canadian company Wattpad Studios.

According to Publishing Perspective's Editor-in-Chief Porter Anderson, Wattpad Studios and the Netherlands' NL Film have announced a new partnership. Wattpad Studios is Wattpad's books to screen division. Under the agreement NL Film will have first rights to YA literature in the Dutch language which the company deems suitable for screen (movie/tv) development. France's Lagardere Studios Announces a Book-to-Screen Deal With Wattpad - Publishing Perspectives

Today as Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere he decided to make a quick stop at the Publishing Perspectives site. With a little digging in the posts our ambitious kitty found one about Wattpad.

According to Publishing Perspectives Editor-in-Chief Porter Anderson, Wattpad Studios and France's Lagardere Studios have announced a partnership agreement. The agreement gives Lagardere Studios the first option to produce Wattpad material in French. The material will be produced for television, movies or digital. According to Porter Anderson's post, Wattpad and Sony Pictures Television have partnered to bring popular Wattpad posted material to television. Because of the multiple venues for television shows, movies and series, books to films is becoming a viable outlet for popular uploaded Wattpad "books." The post includes links to news stories about some of Wattpad's other endeavors and writing stars.

Scribd Opens Author-Friendly Originals with Garrett Graff on Mueller - Publishing Perspectives

According to Porter Anderson, Scribd has added a new division to the company. Scribd is a subscription service for readers with 1 million subscribers. It now has a publishing arm called Scribd Originals. The first content published is Garrett Graff's Mueller's War. Scribd Originals will consist of novella length content available in both "written and audio formats." The post has a link to the Scribd blog post about Scribd Originals. Also included in the Publishing Perspectives post are the submission guidelines for writers and their agents to submit directly to Scribd. There are also links to information about other  "Original" content platforms like Wattpad Originals, Storytel Originals and more.

Wattpad, the Storytelling App, Will Launch a Publishing Division - The New York Times

According to the post, Wattpad has announced the formation of Wattpad Books. The new publication arm will look to material uploaded to the Wattpad site for possible publication. The company has already chosen 6 uploaded stories for book publication later this year.

US Beta for 'Wattpad Next': Centgage Subscription for Missouri - Publishing Perspectives

Today, Panzer made a quick trip to the Publishing Perspectives site. With a little digging our inquisitive kitty traveler found a post about Wattpad.

Thanksgiving is coming. I can see it!

According to Porter Anderson,Toronto, Canada, Wattpad has introduced it's new author payment system Wattpad Next in the U.S. Wattpad users pay an author to read their story. Wattpad Next has already been available in Canada, the U.K., Mexico, and the Philippines. There are several links included in the post. There is a second section to the post which is about the Centgage Subscription service for college students and isn't part of Wattpad, so you can skip it if you want.

Panzer says, "Only certain authors are available through the program."

Juggernaut India's Answer to Wattpad gets its first movie deal as an injunction against another Juggernaut title is restored - The New Publishing Standard

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to The New Publishing Standard site. There with a little digging our intrepid kitty traveler found a post about Juggernaut.

According to the post by Mark Williams, India's Juggernaut recently announced 35,000 stories have been uploaded to their Writing Platform site. In a separate press release Juggernaut also announced one of the stories uploaded has been acquired for a movie. This is in addition to the ten publishing contracts given to authors whose work was uploaded to the site. Juggernaut is only available to the Indian subcontinent. 7 million users in the Philippines as Wattpad's tencent-backed Asia plans step up a gear - The New Publishing Standard

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard clapping and cheering. Following all the hullabaloo took our adventuresome kitty pilot to The New Publishing Standard site. With no digging at all he discovered a post about Wattpad.

According to Mark Williams, Wattpad has just finished a new funding round. Wattpad started as a site for writers to post their work for readers to comment on and refer their friends to read. It has over time grown into much more. Wattpad has over 65 million users world-wide of which 7 million are located in the Philippines. With the new funding, Wattpad is making an expansion in the SE Asia market. Their recent funding with Kickstart Ventures added telco to their already existing partnering with TV5 for furthering that expansion in the Philippines. The post includes much more information on the planned SE Asia expansion and information about Tencent, Wattpad's other funding investor. Also included are quotes from other posts and links to post.

I see an interesting future for Wattpad.

Canada's Entertainment One Is Wattpad's Newest Content Partner - Publishing Perspectives

I'm feeling much better today.

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere today just enjoying the quiet. Our nearly totally recovered kitty boy decided to make a stop at the Publishing Perspectives site. There he found a post about Wattpad.

According to the post by Porter Anderson, Wattpad has announced a new content partnership with Canada's Entertainment One. (Wattpad is also a Canadian company.) Entertainment One distributes TV series and movies for other companies and produces and distributes its own TV series and movies, as well as licensing other materials. Wattpad began as a reading and writing platform, but has expanded into other areas through partnerships like this one. The post includes several links to other posts and announcements about Entertainment One and Wattpad.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... This little kitty isn't sure if posting your writing to Wattpad is worth the effort anymore. Wattpad used to be a fun place to discover new writers. Now, it seems like it's turning into just another business."

Wattpad now pimping writers to Hachett Romans - The Digital Reader

Today, Panzer made a short trip into the Catosphere. Our speedy kitty made a quick jump to The Digital Reader site. There with just a little digging around he found a post about Wattpad and Wattpad Studios.

What about marketing and promotion?

According to The Digital Reader site owner Nate Hoffelder's post,Wattpad has signed a new publishing partnership agreement with Hachette Livre. Chosen Wattpad writers can have French language translation and publishing of their stories by Hachette Livre. Wattpad Studios which handles the selection of stories receives a commission for their services.

Panzer says, "Umm ... This little kitty wants to know if there's more involved than just French translation and publishing."
