The Publishers Association on the UK's AI Consultation - Publishing Perspectives

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Today, Panzer stopped at the Publishing Perspectives site. There with a little digging in the posts he found one about the UK and the uses of AI.

Porter Anderson's post gives information on the coming talks on AI and copyright in the UK. The post includes links to other information about the issue.

Profits, Sales Up at WH Smith in Fiscal 2024 - Publishers Weekly

I'm not sure what it all means about US readers.

Panzer found this post at the Publishers Weekly site. It's a post about UK bookshops WH Smith.

 

According to the post by Neill Denny, WH Smith's sales are doing so well and profits are increasing so the company plans to open more bookstores in North America. The stores will primarily open in US airports.

 

Panzer says,"Hmm ... Interesting development. UK's WH Smith bookstore chain is coming to join UK company owned Barnes and Noble bookstore chain in the US books sales market."

National (U.S.) Answer Your Cat's Questions Day - January 22, 2022 - National Day

Today Panzer woke up to purring and meowing coming from the Catosphere. Hopping in the Panzermobile, our adventuresome kitty boy followed all the hoopla to the National Day site. There he discovered today is a special day in the cat world.

 

My questions? Later. My nap? Now.

According to the post at the National Day site, today is National Answer Your Cat's Questions Day. The site has information about the history of cats interaction with humans, what this national day means and famous cats.

 

Panzer says, "It's about time we got a day to get answers about your behavior from you humans."

KDP adding a Transparency code to some barcodes - News Release - KDP Community

Today Panzer found a new announcement at the KDP Community site.

 

Makes it easier for authors.

According to the news release KDP will be beginning adding what the company calls Transparency Codes to the back of some of the books they publish in the U.S. and Canada. The announcement says the Transparency Code is similar to a QR Code. 

 

Panzer says, "With the new code the reader can find out everything about the author."

Legible Launches Browser-Based Reading and Publishing Platform - Publishers Weekly

 Panzer was rudely woken up this morning by clapping and cheering coming from the Catosphere. Dragging his poor, tired, little, kitty body into the Panzermobile, he headed into the Catosphere. Following all the hullabaloo took him to the Publishers Weekly site. There he found a post about the new Legible reading and publishing platform.

According to the post by Ed Nawotka, Legible.com has launched their new browser-based platform in beta mode in the U.S. and Canada. Browser-based means you can read their books on your cellphone, tablet or computer. Currently, they have books uploaded by some publishers, books in the public domain, and books uploaded by authors. Legible will be offering a subscription service, a sponsorship program and a publishing program. The subscription service will offer books for reading for a monthly fee. The sponsorship program will give schools and businesses the opportunity to pay a fee and allow multiple people to read the same material for a set amount of time. The publishing program will let authors upload their own books to the platform. There's a link to the publishing platform included in the post. If you fill out the form to get information about the publishing program, you can choose to visit the site and look at the books there.

Panzer says, "This little kitty followed the Legible Publishing link. It looks like an interesting new publishing venue."
