According to author Richard Beard, arguing about 'computers' impact on writing and creativity have been around since the 1800s.

Interesting how they want the lawsuit setup.

Panzer's first stop today was at The Wrap site. With just a little digging in the posts our illustrious kitty boy found one about another copyright infringement lawsuit.

 

According to Andi Ortiz's post, six writers have joined together to file a copyright infringement lawsuit against some of the AI giants.

 

Panzer says, "This one isn't part of the Anthropic lawsuit."

Erica Verrillo's list includes 65 markets open for submissions in August. There are markets accepting submissions in fiction and nonfiction.

AI translation service launched for fiction writers and publishers prompts dismay among translators - The Guardian

$100 a book?

On today's trip into the Catosphere Panzer stopped in at The Guardian. There our intrepid traveler discovered a post about AI translators.

 

 According to a post by Ella Creamer an AI translation company has opened in the UK.Writers and publishers can have their fiction books translated by the company GlobeScribe for $100 per book per language.

J. Kingston Pierce's post lists the nominees for the Crime Writers of Canada Awards for Excellence. There are ten divisions. The post includes a link to the CWC's announcement with more information.

 In the post Erica Verrillo lists 35 conferences and workshops which happen in March. They range from one day to five weeks long. Some are in-person and some are online and some are even free to attend.

Dragon Con 3024 Tickets Available Now

Dragon Con will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, August 29 - September 2. Ticket prices are currently $160, but will increase to $175 on June 14.

Today, Panzer found an interesting news post on the AP site.

 

According to a post by Hillel Italie, author Ursula K. Le Guin's Portland, Oregon, home will soon be available for writers residency. The post includes links to other information.

 

Panzer says, "Hmm ... I didn't see anything about it being available for cat writers residency."

Canada Calls for AI Input With Copyright Needs Still Unmet - Publishing Perspectives

Today Panzer found a post about another country gathering information about AI and copyright issues.

 

No it can't think and create new stories.

According to the post by Porter Anderson, Canada's government is collecting input on AI and copyright and their impact on artists, writers and publishers. One issue already brought up addresses the fact humans as the creators of new ideas and material should be granted copyright protection; but, since AI cannot create new ideas and material. it should not be granted copyrights. Links to other information about the subjects in the post are included.

 

Panzer says, "Let's hope deciding what to do about AI and copyright doesn't take as long as fixing the Copyright Modernization Act is taking."

If you missed this year's International Thriller Writers ThillerFest, Panzer discovered the recordings are now available for sale.

 

The cost depends on which individual class, panel or interview or group of classes panels and interviews you want to purchase. The ordering process is a little complicated, but, if you want the recordings, it's worth the extra steps.
