Survey Results Detail Publishers' Failure to Register Authors' Copyright - Authors Guild

Link to a post with Authors Guikd;s survey results.
That would make me really mad.
At the Authors' Guild site Panzer found a post about Anthropic settlement problems.

The Authors Guild conducted a survey among members about copyright registration by authors' publishers. A significant number of respondents reported their copyrights hadn't been registered. This meant the authors weren't able to collect from the Anthropic settlement.

Panzer says, "That's not what you'd expect from a publisher."

Consumer Use of Audiobooks Continues to Rise - Publishers Weekly

Panzer made a quick stop at the Publishers Weekly site today. There our speedy little kitty boy found a post about audiobooks.

According to Ed Nawotka at Publishers Weekly, audiobook use is up. A recent survey by Edison Research and Triton Media shows 50 percent of all Americans have listened to an audiobook in the past year. Where does all this listening happen? Most of it is in their cars. It's reported that 74 percent listen in their cars. Newer vehicles come with a built-in entertainment center which includes the ability to listen to your audiobook as you go to work. There is a link included in the post to the original press release about the uptick in audiobook listening.

Mom says I have an amazing voice.
Panzer says, "Hmm ... I know audiobooks are the bright-shiny new thing right now. So ... I've been practicing for doing my own audio book. What's His Name told Mom I'll be ready in about a century ... whatever that is."

Note: This is a medium length post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection.

Panzer had barely made it into  the Catosphere when he heard clapping and laughing. Following all the raucous noise, our kitty boy found himself at the Smashwords blog. It didn't take any digging at all to find the post that made everyone so happy.

In the post Smashwords founder Mark Coker discussed the results of the annual Smashwords survey. The survey showed that once again romance fiction is the top seller, boxed sets are also big sellers, and pre-orders are a major driver for bestsellers. Several other findings from the survey are also discussed.

Also included in the post was Mr. Coker's slide show presentation of the survey results at the April 14 RT Booklovers Convention which is included below. If you would rather read the post, the link is after the slide show.

Here's the slide show:

Smashwords: 2015 Smashwords Survey Reveals Insights to Help Au...

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard a bunch of ooohing and aaahing. Our brave kitty pilot followed the sound to the Smashword blog. There he discovered Smashwords founder Mark Coker had posted the results of the 2015 Smashwords Survey.

Interesting.
In the post Mr. Coker discusses the results of the sales figures from all the ebook platforms Smashwords distributes to and the conclusions that can be drawn from them. There's a Slide Share presentation included to demonstrate the results. Below the slide show is a compilation of ten things learned from the survey. They include the fact pre-order books are more successful than non pre-order, series that use a free ebook as a lead-in are more successful, free is still a good avenue to readers, longer books sell better than shorter ones, and five more useful facts for authors are included from the sales data.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... I wish I knew all this before I published Cat Wisdom for humans. I would have done some things differently."

Note: You'll need two cups of tea and two muffins to read the post and view the slides.
