Pew Survey Finds Readers Still Prefer Print Books - Publishers Daily

Panzer made a stop at the Publishers Daily site where he found some interesting results from a Pew Research Group survey..

There's a link to a post about a Pew Research Group survey that found readers prefer print books.
That prediction was wrong.
According to Jim Milliot, the survey shows print books are still the preferred reading format in the U.S. Included in the post is a link to the survey results.

Panzer says, "So ... Ebooks are not taking over the world."

Note: This is a long-short post. Bring a cup of tea to drink.

Amazon Kindles now support EPUB Books (sort of), but MOBI and AZW support is ending in 2022 - liliputing

Panzer made a quick stop at the liliputing site today. With just a little digging in the posts our busy kitty boy found one about Amazon and EPUB formatted ebooks.

According to Brad Linder's post, Amazon now allows Kindle and Kindle app users to load EPUB ebooks to their devices. The post includes a list of all the formats Amazon currently supports for ebooks and documents to load on Kindle devices. Also included in the post are instructions about how to load the EPUB ebooks and the other formatted ebooks and documents on to the Kindle and Kindle apps.

Not good. Mom has a lot of mobi ebooks.
Panzer says, "Amazon is doing away with support for the MOBI and AZW formats this year. That means those formats can't be loaded on Kindle devices or the Kindle app after the support ends."

Note: This is a medium length post. Bring a cup of tea and a chocolate chip cookie (biscuit) for today's reading.

Amazon Will Stop Accepting Mobi Files in June - The Digital Reader

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to The Digital Reader site. With a little digging in the posts he found one about Amazon's new ebook file rule.

We only upload doc files anyway.
According to The Digital Reader site owner Nate Hoffelder's post, Amazon sent an email to authors about changes to ebook file upload requirements. As of June 28 Amazon will no longer accept Mobi files. The company will only accept EPUB, KPF or DOC/DOCX files. The post includes part of the email Amazon sent to authors explaining the change and it also has a link to the Amazon site with file formats information.

Panzer says, "Umm ... We didn't get an email from Amazon."

Note: This is a short post. Bring half a cup of cocoa for today's reading selection. If you want to go down the rabbit hole and follow the link to Amazon, bring a thermos of tea and two muffins for your reading.

Kensington to Introduce Larger Mass Market Format - Publishers Weekly

Today, Panzer decided to make a trip to the Publishers Weekly site. With a little digging in the posts our inquisitive kitty boy found one about publisher Kensington's new paperback format.
A new market for Kensington?

According to Jim Milliot's post, publisher Kensington is introducing a new larger paperback format in September. The new format will be 4.75 x 7 inches with a new font. Of course, the increase in size means an increase in price of $1.00 more per book.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Larger format? Easier to read print? Appeal to an older reader market? Or just easier to hold?"

Note: This is a medium length post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection.

What the Inventor of the World Wide Web Sees for the Future of Ebooks - Book Business

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard ooohhing and aaawwing. Following the sounds took our big bad kitty boy to the Book Business site.

It didn't take any digging at all to find the cause of all the noise. It was a post about Sir Tim Berners-Lee. In 1989 Sir Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web. His WWW made it possible for computers to obtain information world wide with the help of computer code and a keyboard.  Consequently, when he speaks, everyone listens.

Makes sense to me. How about you?
According to the post by Ellen Harvey, in his keynote speech  at IDPF DigiCon 2016 Sir Berners-Lee has a similar vision for ebooks. He believes HTML 5 should be the standard format for ebooks. Using HTML 5 would mean an ebook could be read on any device, just as WWW is available on any computer. Also included in the post are four of the attributes he believes ebooks would have if the standard were adopted.

Panzer says, "Hmmm ... If all the ebooks and all the e-readers used HTML 5, you would buy the e-reader for its extra features; like lighted screen, enlarged print, graphics capabilities. Sounds good to me."

Note: This is a medium-long post. You'll need a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection.
