Disney Exits OpenAI Deal After AI Giant Shutters Sora - The Hollywood Reporter

I can only take so much excitement in one day. 

As Panzer was heading home in the Catosphere the Panzermobile was suddenly hit by the sounds of crying and yelling outside. Following all the noise took our brave kitty to The Hollywood Reporter site. There he discovered the demise of the Sora app was the problem.

 

According to Alex Weprin's post, OpenAI announced the closing of the Sora app with more news to come at a later date.

 

Panzer says, "Hmm ... This little kitty wants to know why they're shutting down Sora."

OpenAI and Amazon announce strategic partnership - Amazon News

That's a lot of money.

Panzer found this announcement on the Amazon News site.

 

According to the post, OpenAI and Amazon have formed a partnership around OpenAI's Frontier. Amazon will also invest $50 Billion over the coming months.

NYT Reporter John Carreyrou, 5 Others Sue OpenAI, Google, Meta for Copyright Infringement - The Wrap

Interesting how they want the lawsuit setup.

Panzer's first stop today was at The Wrap site. With just a little digging in the posts our illustrious kitty boy found one about another copyright infringement lawsuit.

 

According to Andi Ortiz's post, six writers have joined together to file a copyright infringement lawsuit against some of the AI giants.

 

Panzer says, "This one isn't part of the Anthropic lawsuit."

India proposes charging OpenAI, Google for training AI on copyrighted content - TechCrunch

 

How much content did they take from India?

Panzer found an interesting post about OpenAI and Google at the TechCrunch site today.

 

According Jagmeet Singh's post, India wants to collect royalties from AI companies that do business in the country. The money would then be given to the creators of the content used by AI companies. There is however already pushback in the country.

Ashley Belanger's post reports the judge in the case's ruling about what is not protected in OpenAI's attorney-client privileged information.

OverDrive Sues OpenAI over Sora App - Publishers Weekly

Haven't they learned anything yet?

Today, Panzer found an interesting post on the Publishers Weekly site.  It looks like OpenAI is facing another lawsuit.

 

Jim Milliot's post gives an overview of OverDrive's lawsuit against OpenAI for the use of OverDrive's trademarked name of the Sora app.

Authors' Class Action Lawsuit Against OpenAI Moves Ahead - Publishers Weekly

There's more news out there.

Today as Panzer was napping he was shaken from his kitty bed by clapping coming from the Catosphere. Jumping in the Panzermobile, he followed all the noise to the Publishers Weekly site. There he found a post about a lawsuit filed against OpenAI was causing all the racket.

 

According to Jim Milliot's post, a judge refused to dismiss the lawsuit against OpenAI. The class action is about copyright infringement and GPT output to certain prompts. The post includes links to information about other lawsuits.

 

Panzer says, "This little kitty saw the Authors Guild is involved in this lawsuit just like the Anthropic case."

Introducing GPT - 5 - OpenAI

Are you ready for the new update?

For those of you interested in OpenAI's GPT Panzer found the company's Youtube video about the new GPT - 5 update. It was released yesterday.

AI heats up as OpenAI, Google and Mistral release new models - The Guardian

No more interruptions. It's nap time.

Panzer didn't make it home from his trip to Publishers Weekly before another storm of clapping and cheering got him on a new adventure quest. This time he found himself led to The Guardian site. With no digging in the posts at all he found one about AI (Artificial Intelligence) was the cause of all the jubilation.

Alex Hern says in his post that during a twelve hour period OpenAI announced GPT-4 Turbo's release, Google announced Gemini Pro 1.5's release and Mistral announced Mixtral 8x22B's release. The post goes in,to more details about the releases and reactions to them. It's a long-medium length post, so there's a lot more information.

OpenAI partners with Arizona State University to use ChatGPT in classrooms - The Verge

Rules change whenever you want.

On today's trip into the Catosphere Panzer stopped in at The Verge site. There with a little digging in the posts he found one about ChatGPT.

According to Emilia David's post, Arizona State University (ASU) will now use ChatGPT Enterprise for student and faculty projects.  There's a link in the post to the original press release about ASU and OpenAI's agreement.

Panzer says, "Hey wait a minute! This little kitty thought schools were saying students could not use ChatGPT. When did that change?"

'Impossible' to creatAi tools like ChatGPT without copyrighted material, Open AI says - The Guardian

Do humans think about what they say before they say it?

Today, Panzer made a trip to The Guardian site. There with a little digging in the posts, our intrepid kitty hunter found one about OpenAI and ChatGPT.

According to Dan Milmo's post, OpenAI is claiming that without the ability to "train" it's chatbot using copyrighted material without the copyright holders permission, the bot wouldn't be as smart or functional as it is now or in the future.

 

Panzer says, "It's an interesting argument: If I can't use people's work without their permission or knowledge, then my machine won't work right. That means, instead of me asking for permission to use the copyrighted material, you need to let me train my machine its okay to steal. Right?"

AI: Copyright Challenges Now Includes a New York Times Lawsuit - Publishing Perspectives

Panzer was out tootling around in the Catosphere when he decided to make a stop at the Publishing Perspectives site. There he discovered a post about a new lawsuit against OpenAI.

According to Porter Anderson's post, the New York Times has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microscoft. The lawsuit accuses them of using the New York Times articles "to train chatbots." The lawsuit also brings up the issue of copyright infringement since the articles were used without permission or payment. The post also contains information about other lawsuits and links to other posts with more information about the lawsuits.

Panzer says, "This could get very interesting."

"Shadow libraries" are at the heart of the mounting copyright lawsuit against OpenAI - Quartz

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Quartz site. There our intrepid traveling kitty boy found a post about another lawsuit against OpenAI.

It's called transparency.

Michelle Cheng's post explains about OpenAI using "shadow libraries" to teach Artificial Intelligence to write like humans. "Shadow libraries" and their connections with the use of copyrighted material are explained.

Panzer says, "This little kitty thinks, if OpenAI would just tell where they got all the books used to teach AI instead of keeping it a secret, they wouldn't be getting sued to find out the answer."

Bing is now the default search for ChatGPT - The Verge

It's going to be a long weekend.

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to The Verge site. There he found a post about ChatGPT and Microsoft.

 

The post by Tom Warren says effective May 23 Microsoft Bing became ChatGPT Plus' default search engine. Plus is the paid version of ChatGPT. The free version will get a plug-in "soon" to allow the same Bing functionality.

Panzer says, "Like nobody saw that coming after all the bazillion kitty treats Microsoft gave OpenAI."
