Sounds like a wide open market.

Panzer's first stop today was at the Publishing Perspectives site. There our traveling kitty pilot found a post about "silver" readers.

 

The post covers the nearly totally forgotten market of readers over 55 years old. As the population ages the market gets bigger. The post includes links to several other sources and one to the report quoted in the post.

The 30th Annual Audie Awards: 28 Category Winners - Publishing Perspectives

I wish they let cats narrate their own books.

Today, as Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere, he heard clapping and cheering outside the Panzermobile. Following all the hoopla took our inquisitive kitty boy to the Publishing Perspectives site. There he discovered news about the Audie Awards.

 

According to Porter Anderson's post, the Audie Awards were presented yesterday in New York. The Audie Awards are presented to the best narrator/reader in each of 28 categories. The list of winners is at the end of the post and some of them might surprise you.

 

Panzer says, "There's even a short story collection category."

Authors are protesting Amazon's e-book policy that allows users to read and return - NPR

Today, Panzer made a trip to the NPR site. There our illustrious kitty traveler found a post about Amazon's ebook return policy.

 

Why are you stealing from authors?

According to the post by Deanna Schwartz, authors are upset by Amazon's ebook return policy. The policy allows readers to purchase an ebook, keep it for a week, return it, and get a refund. The policy allows readers to legally (by Amazon's standards) steal an author's work and royalty payments, by reading the ebook in the seven days, returning it and getting the reader's money (the author's royalty payment) back. Several authors are quoted describing their experiences with lost royalties, including one author who owed Amazon money because of the reader refunds. The post contains several links, one of which goes to a petition to have Amazon change the return policy for ebooks.

Panzer says, "This little kitty didn't know people were just treating Amazon like a library."

Lover's Big Leap - The Rap Sheet

 Today Panzer made a stop at The Rap Sheet site. There he found a post about the new Crime Fiction Lover awards.

 

According to J. Kingston Pierce's post, Crime Fiction Lover has six new international Crime Fiction Lover Awards. These are reader nominated and voted for awards. Nominations are open until noon November 10. All the information and rules are listed in the post at The Rap Sheet site. The post has a link to the Crime Fiction Lover site and also a link to the award nomination form.

 

Nominations are open now.

Panzer says, "Be sure to read the instructions for the nomination form, too."

Online Gathering Poised to Reimage Bookselling - Press Release

 Panzer didn't get a chance to fall back asleep before he heard more noises in the Catosphere. Following it this time took him to the Publishers Weekly press room. There he found a news release about an upcoming online event.

According to the press release Publishers Weekly is sponsoring a free online gathering about bookselling open to everyone: publishers, booksellers, bookstores, writers and readers. The gathering will run October 18 and 19. There's a registration link included in the post. If you follow the link, there's a lot more information available.

Now about that nap.

How to get Discovered by Readers

To market I go.

Panzer has been such a busy boy lately.

He's been doing some marketing research. His friend Fiona L. Webber heard his ebook Cats and Crime has been in and out and in and out of Amazon's Top 100 Mystery Short Story Collections. She asked him to help get her new ebook discovered so she can get in the Top 100 for romance.

So, my bad boy went out into the Catosphere and found a post by Penny C. Sanseviere at Huff Post Books that addresses how to get your ebook discovered. Ms. Sanseviere has a list of 10 ways to get the attention of those all important readers.
