International Dayton Peace Prize Shortlists - Publishing Perspectives

I haven't seen any advertising for the contest.

Panzer's travels in the Catosphere today took him to the Publishing Perspectives site. There our adventuresome kitty found a post about an international writing contest.

 

According to Porter Anderson's post, almost no one has heard about this contest and those who do don't know what it's about. So, he does a deep dive into it and explains the contest's origin and this year's shortlists of nominees for the prizes.

 

Panzer says, "This little kitty has never heard of it either, but he has heard of some of the books on the shortlists."

Pandemic Won't Cancel CrimeFest Prizes - The Rap Sheet

 Panzer didn't even make back home for a nap, before he heard clapping and cheering outside the Panzermobile. Following all the jocularity took our busy kitty boy to The Rap Sheet site. There he found a post about CrimeFest.

 

Some familiar names on that list, but not mine.

According to the post by J. Kingston Pierce, although The International Crime Fiction Convention CrimeFest has been cancelled this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic the prizes will still be awarded. The winners will be announced online. The post includes the complete short list. The post also includes a link to a post on the Shots site with information about some of the entries and the history of CrimeFest.

Panzer says, "This little kitty wishes they had the whole convention online."

Amazon Literary Prize Finalists To Be Considered for Prime Video - Publishing Perspectives

Panzer was washing the windows of the Panzermobile, when he found a wadded up post stuck in the door frame. Flattening it out our fastidious kitty boy discovered it was a post about Amazon's Prime Video and the UK Kindle Storyteller Prize from the Publishing Perspectives site.

It's very confusing.

According to Porter Anderson, Amazon has added a bonus for the finalists in the UK Kindle Storyteller competition for self-published in English authors and Amazon's other five global (other languages than English) literary prize group competitions. In addition to the Kindle Storyteller winner (and the other winners in the global group) all finalists will also be considered for an audiovisual production contract with Amazon Studios and an additional advance payment. The post brings out some of the confusing points in the competition's rules and terms. Since parts of the terms are stringent and limiting, the post stresses it's important to read everything before making a decision.

Panzer says, "Here's your chance for an audiovisual deal."

After Changes, the Nobel Prize for Literature Returns - Publishers Weekly

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard clapping and cheering. Following all the hoopla took our brave kitty boy to the Publishers Weekly site. There with hardly any digging at all he found a post about the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Glad it's back. It's an important prize.

According to Calvin Reid, after a one year hiatus the Nobel Prize for Literature is back. This fall the Nobel Prize for Literature will be awarded for 2018 (the year skipped) and 2019. Changes have now been made to the voting process, the membership rules and the rules to address possible criminal allegations. The post contains information about these changes and others that have been implemented.

Panzer says, "This little kitty was wondering how long it would be before the Nobel Prize for Literature came back."

The Alternative Nobel: Vote opens for a suprising new literature prize - The Guardian

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to The Guardian site. There our traveling kitty pilot found a post about the New Academy literature prize.

According to Alison Flood, the Swedish Academy Nobel prize for literature may be gone for 2018, but the New Academy prize for literature is here to fill the void. Sexual misconduct allegations derailed this year's Nobel prize for literature. The New Academy has stepped up and asked Swedish librarians to put together the long-list for the new literature prize. The public can now vote on this long-list of nominees by August 14. The short list created by this vote will be passed on to the New Academy judges to pick the 2018 prize winner. No Nobel prize? That's depressing.

Is The Self Pub Stigma Gone?

Only the best will do.

Panzer made a hurried trip into the Catosphere today. He was late for his after lunch nap and wanted to get to it before he fell asleep at the controls of the Panzermobile. Our kitty reporter of all things indie stopped in at the Indie Reader site.

According to the IR Staff, because indie publishing has been so easy in the past, a lot of material that was unedited, had bad covers and should have been left in a desk drawer to die a slow death was instead self pubbed. This lead to reader overload of ebook garbage and a bad reputation for everyone who self pubbed.

But, the IR Staff says the self pub stigma may finally be disappearing. The quality of indie books in general is improving. Indie books are being nominated for prizes and even winning some. Indie books are even making it onto some best seller lists.

Panzer says, "Humans should put as much time into self pubbing the best book they can as they put into talking about the book they self pubbed."
