Libro.fm Reports Growth in 2025, Launches Annual Subscription - Publishers Weekly

Looks like a better deal for bookstores.

Panzer's first stop in the Catosphere today was at the Publishers Weekly site. With no digging at all our adventuresome kitty found a post about Libro.fm.

 

The post by Ed Nawotka examines Libro.fm and the expansion of it's service to add annual subscriptions

 

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Interesting."

CEO AndyJassy's 2023 Letter to Shareholders - Amazon News

I'd suggest a sleeping bag for a nap in the middle.

Today, Panzer went to the About Amazon news site. There with a little digging, he found CEO Andy Jassy's letter to shareholders.

 

Included in the letter are Amazon financial amounts and percentage increases from 2023 to explain Amazon's revenue increases in sales, in advertising and in different company income streams. There are also explanations about Amazon's different business focuses. There is also a section on Amazon's GenAI plans.

Panzer says, "There is way too much information included in the post for this little kitty to explain it all to you. You need to read the letter yourself."

The Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest

Today, Panzer went to the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest site. There he found the list of this year's Winners and Dishonorable Mentions.

It's so bad it made me laugh.

This is the annual contest for the worst opening line of a novel. It's named for Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton, the man who wrote the opening line, "It was a dark and stormy night."

The main page has this year's Grand Prize Winner John Farmer's first line. If you click the blue button below that, you'll be taken to the Grand Prize Winner and the Winners and the Dishonorable Mentions in each of the categories.

Panzer says, "Even bad writing deserves to be rewarded."

2021 Publishing Predictions – Pandemic Reshapes Publishing, Accelerates Consolidation - Smashwords

Panzer was sweeping the floor in the Panzermobile when he found a wadded up post under the pilot's seat. Smoothing it out our fastidious kitty found it was a post from the Smashwords site about Mark Coker's publishing predictions for the coming year.

 

I agree with most of them.

In his annual publishing predictions post Smashwords founder Mark Coker has thirteen predictions for the 2021 publishing industry. These predictions cover everything from "nesting" and reading (Number 1) to the joy of reading (Number 13).

 

Panzer says, "Most years his predictions turn out to be true."

After Changes, the Nobel Prize for Literature Returns - Publishers Weekly

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard clapping and cheering. Following all the hoopla took our brave kitty boy to the Publishers Weekly site. There with hardly any digging at all he found a post about the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Glad it's back. It's an important prize.

According to Calvin Reid, after a one year hiatus the Nobel Prize for Literature is back. This fall the Nobel Prize for Literature will be awarded for 2018 (the year skipped) and 2019. Changes have now been made to the voting process, the membership rules and the rules to address possible criminal allegations. The post contains information about these changes and others that have been implemented.

Panzer says, "This little kitty was wondering how long it would be before the Nobel Prize for Literature came back."

Amazon Sales Soared in 2017 - Publishers Weekly

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he stopped in at the Publishers Weekly (PW) site. There our happy little kitty pilot found a post about Amazon.

According to the post by Jim Milliot, Amazon just did a press release about the company's sales revenue figures for 2017 compared to 2016. While there are no numbers available for ebook and traditional hardback and paperback book sales figures, Amazon reported a 31 percent growth in overall sales for everything combined. (Panzer has included a link to the original Amazon press release at the end of this post after the link to Publishers Weekly.)

Panzer says, "Getting book sales numbers out of Amazon is like pulling a saber tooth tiger's canine teeth."

That thing is definitely long.

Smashwords: Smashwords Year in Review 2014 and Plans for 2015

Let's see. Am I the only one?

Panzer headed out in the Panzermobile to find out what was going on in the Catosphere today. It is the end of 2014 and my big bad boy wanted to know what his Catosphere friends have been doing all year.

So, when my kitty reporter stopped in at the Smashwords blog, he was pleasantly surprised to find a post there that answers all his questions about Smashwords' year. Owner Mark Coker posted his annual Smashwords' year in review. Included in the post is what he's got planned for Smashwords in 2015. According to Mr. Coker, Smashwords is growing bigger with more and faster distribution channels, more authors and books, and more employees.

Panzer says, "Hmmm. Smashwords has 100,000 authors. I wonder how many are cats besides me?"
