AAP StatShot for September: Modest Gains in the US Market - Publishing Perspectives

Panzer was cleaning out the console between the pilot's seat and the passenger seat in the Panzermobile, when he found a wadded up post in the cup holder. Flattening it out our fastidious kitty discovered it was a post from the Publishing Perspectives site about US book sales for the month of September and the whole year.

According to Porter Anderson's post, the Association of American Publishers (AAP) has released their StatShot report. According to the report, overall the U.S. book sales for the year are up 4 percent over last year. The rest of the post is divided into three sections comparing September sales of 2019 to 2018. The sections are US Trade Publishing, US Trade in Terms of Format, and Overall Publisher Revenue. The sections cover audiobooks, ebooks, and trade books (adult, YA, children etc.).

Panzer says, "Hmm ... The numbers show sales are up for the year and for the month of September. Interesting."

Barnes & Noble Reports Revenue Down 3% for the Year, Nook Revenue Down 17% - The Digital Reader

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he decided to stop in at The Digital Reader site. With hardly any digging at all our speedy kitty boy found a post about Barnes and Noble.

According to The Digital Reader site owner Nate Hoffelder's post, Barnes and Noble announced the company's sales and revenue for the just ended fiscal year. This fiscal year's total sales declined over the previous year by 3 percent. Nook revenue made the biggest decline at 17 percent. The exact sales and revenue figures are included in the post.

What will happen to the Nook?

Panzer says, "This little kitty doesn't know if Barnes and Noble's new owner will want to continue the Nook."

Amazon Sales Soared in 2017 - Publishers Weekly

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he stopped in at the Publishers Weekly (PW) site. There our happy little kitty pilot found a post about Amazon.

According to the post by Jim Milliot, Amazon just did a press release about the company's sales revenue figures for 2017 compared to 2016. While there are no numbers available for ebook and traditional hardback and paperback book sales figures, Amazon reported a 31 percent growth in overall sales for everything combined. (Panzer has included a link to the original Amazon press release at the end of this post after the link to Publishers Weekly.)

Panzer says, "Getting book sales numbers out of Amazon is like pulling a saber tooth tiger's canine teeth."

That thing is definitely long.
