When Panzer stopped in at the Mystery Fanfare site today our traveling little kitty boy discovered a post about the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel contest winner.

Hugo Award Base & Lodestar Award Designers Announced - LAcon V

I'll find something else of interest.

The Lodestar Award is given each year to the winning designers that will create the new base design for the Hugo Awards.

Australia's Helen Garner Wins the UK's £50,000 Baillie Gifford Prize in Nonfiction - Publishing Perspectives

The colder the weather the harder for me to stay awake.

On a quick trip to the Publishing Perspectives site Panzer learned Australian writer Helen Garner won the Baillie Gifford Prize in Nonfiction.

 

According to Porter Anderson's post, Helen Garner won with her nonfiction book comprised of a collection of diaries.

J. Kingston Pierce's post lists Marc Cameron as the winner of the Friends of Mystery's 2025 Spotted Owl Award. The post also includes the runners up list as well as links to other information..

Samantha Harvey's 'Orbital' Wins 50,000 Booker Prize - Publishing Perspectives

It sounds like an interesting book.

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard clapping and cheering outside the Panzermobile. Following all the noise took our brave kitty boy to the Publishing Perspectives site. There he discovered a post about the Booker Prize.

 

According to Porter Anderson's post, British author Samantha Harvey won the Booker Prize 2024. Her novel 'Orbital' won from a short list of six fiction novels.

 

Panzer says, "The post says it's a very short novel at 136 pages long."

V. V. Ganeshananthan Wins the $150,000 Carol Shields Prize - Publishing Perspectives

I wonder how many were on the long list.

Panzer was taking his afternoon nap when he was shaken from his kitty bed by clapping and cheering coming from the Catosphere. Hopping in the Panzermobile, he followed all the noise to the Publishing Perspectives site. There he discovered the announcement of the winner of the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction.

 

Porter Anderson's post says V. V. Ganeshananthan's novel, Brotherless Night, won the $150,000 prize. The novel was chosen from a short list of five novels by the five jurors. The novel short list and the jurors list are included in the post.

Panzer says, "MeWOW! $150,000 would buy a lot of kitty treats."

The Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest

Today, Panzer went to the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest site. There he found the list of this year's Winners and Dishonorable Mentions.

It's so bad it made me laugh.

This is the annual contest for the worst opening line of a novel. It's named for Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton, the man who wrote the opening line, "It was a dark and stormy night."

The main page has this year's Grand Prize Winner John Farmer's first line. If you click the blue button below that, you'll be taken to the Grand Prize Winner and the Winners and the Dishonorable Mentions in each of the categories.

Panzer says, "Even bad writing deserves to be rewarded."

Pulling Out the Macavitys - The Rap Sheet

Panzer was shaken from his noon nap by clapping and cheering coming from the Catosphere. Dragging his poor tired little kitty body into the pilot's seat of the Panzermobile, he headed into the Catosphere. Following all the jocularity took him to The Rap Sheet site. There he discovered all the noise was for the announcement of the Macavity Award winners.

 

J. Kingston Pierce's post lists the winner and the fellow-nominees in each Macavity category. The categories are for novel, first novel, short story, biography, and the historical. Mystery Readers International subscribers and friends nominate and then vote for the winner in each category.

ITW Thriller Award Winners 2021 - Mystery Fanfare

Today, when Panzer got back from the Catosphere, our fastidious kitty boy decided to do some work on the Panzermobile. As he was cleaning out the wheel wells, he found a wadded up post stuck in there. Flattening it out, he discovered it was about the International Thriller Writers winners.

 

Finally ... Nap time ... zzzz

According to the post at the Mystery Fanfare site, the 2021 International Thriller Writers Awards have been announced. There are six awards covering best hardback novel, best first novel, best paperback novel, best short story, best young adult novel, and best ebook novel. All six winners are listed in the post.

 

Panzer says, "Even if I live to be twenty, I'll never finish my To-Be-Read pile."

A Buoyant 2020 Audie Awards Celebrates 'The Only Plane in the Sky,' Stephen King - Publishers Weekly

Today as Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere, the Panzermobile was shaken by clapping and cheering coming from outside. Following all the hullabaloo took our brave kitty boy to the Publishers Weekly site. With no digging at all he found a post about the Audie Awards.

Jim Maher reports in his post that the 2020 Audie Awards were presented on March 2. The awards are given annually by the Audio Publishers Association. 'The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11' was named the Audiobook of the Year. The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Stephen King. The entire list of all 24 winners is included at the end of the post.

Panzer says, "There are 24 winners because there is a winner for every genre, like one winner for mystery, one winner for fantasy, one winner for memoir, one winner for male narrator, one for female narrator, and one winner for each of the 19 remaining genres."

Drawn Out and Delightful - The Rap Sheet

As Panzer was taking his morning nap, he was shaken from his kitty bed by laughing and guffawing coming from the Catosphere. Hopping in the Panzermobile, he followed all the jocularity to The Rap Sheet site. There he found a post about the Winners and Dishonorable Mentions in the 2019 Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest.

Who was that guy?

According to site owner J. Kingston Pierce, the annual Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest has announced the 2019 winners and dishonorable mentions. The contest is in honor of the Edward Bulwer-Lytton who wrote the infamous line, "It was a dark and stormy night." Each participant tries to write the worst single sentence he or she can. There's a grand prize winner and one winner in each of twelve categories. Depending on the entries, there are also several dishonorable mentions as well. The post includes several of the contest's dishonorable mentions and winners. There is also a link to the contest winners' site included in the post.
