Facing US State Department Grant Terminations, Christopher Merrill Wins the 2025 Ottaway Award - Publishing Perspectives

I don't understand terminations. Why?

Today Panzer went to the Publishing Perspectives site where he found a post about the Ottaway Award.

 

According to Porter Anderson's post, it was announced yesterday that Christopher Merrill won the Ottaway Award for the Promotion of International Literature. Christopher Merrill is the director of the International Writing Program (IWP). Several links are included in the post to more information.

 

Panzer says, "The post also contains information about the U.S. government grant terminations and the impact that's had on the IWP."

Waterstones cuts 16 head office roles including for publisher-facing staff - The Bookseller

Panzer has been on a cleaning frenzy today. Sweeping out the inside of the Panzermobile, he found a post under the pilot seat floor mat. Pulling it out, he discovered it was a post from The Bookseller * site about Waterstones bookstores.

 

It's that virus thingy.

According to the post by Mark Chandler, Waterstones is making some employee changes effective immediately. The company announced it has made 16 head office staff positions redundant. (That's the polite way of saying they were terminated from their jobs.) The company cited the downturn in trade sales and foot traffic.

Panzer says, "Look what happened to Macmillan's soon-to-be ex-CEO John Sargent after he made some staff positions redundant."

B&N Seeks Knockout Blow in Litigation with Fired CEO - Publishers Weekly

Today Panzer decided to stop at the Publishers Weekly site. Digging in the posts, our inquisitive kitty discovered one about the old Barnes and Noble.

It just goes on and on and on.

According to Andrew Albanese, the Barnes and Noble court fight continues with former CEO Demos Parneros and his lawsuit against the company. Barnes and Noble's attorneys are filing in court for a summary judgment in the lawsuit. The company wants two of Mr. Parneros' three claims dismissed. The two claims are 1) defamation and 2) breach of covenant of good faith and fair dealing. Barnes and Noble's attorneys presented the court with a 33 page memorandum explaining why the two claims should be dismissed. There are several links in the post, including one to the memorandum.

Panzer says, "I've been telling you about this never-ending lawsuit story since it started."

B&N Fires CEO - Publishers Weekly

Panzer had hardly started eating his dinner when his food bowl was tipped over by the sounds of shouting. Our brave kitty hopped into the Panzermobile and headed into the Catosphere. Following all the noise took him to the Publishers Weekly site. With no digging at all he found a brand new post about Barnes and Noble.

According to the post by Jim Milliot, Barnes and Noble announced this afternoon the company CEO has been fired. In a release the company said the Barnes and Noble board of directors terminated (fired) CEO Demos Parneros effective immediately. The reason according to the release is CEO Parneros' "violations of the Company's policies." There is no mention of the exact violations except to say they are not financial or fraud violations.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... The violations must have been bad for him to be terminated immediately."

I'm ready for a nap now.

B&N Pays Boire $4.8 Million in Separation Agreement - PW (Publishers' Weekly)

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the Publisher's Weekly site. After some digging around, our traveling kitty found a post about the Barnes and Noble bookstores company.

Inquiring kitties want to know.

According to the post by Jim Milliot, Barnes and Noble has reached a separation agreement with former CEO Ron Boire. Mr. Boire was terminated by the company in August for unspecified reasons. No reason for Mr. Boire's termination is included in the announcement of the separation agreement either. The two new things of interest in the announcement are that Mr. Boire has agreed to return the company stock awards given to him earlier and that he will receive $4.8 million to leave the company.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... So ... It's still a puzzle why he got fired."
