Campaign to buy JRR Tolkien's house backed by Lord of the Rings actors - The Guardian

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to The Guardian site. With no digging at all our intrepid traveling kitty found a post about J.R.R. Tolkien.

It looks important to me.

According to The Guardian's post by Alison Flood, the Project Northmoor wants to raise the money to buy the house where J.R.R. Tolkien wrote Lord of the Rings. The house would be turned into a museum. To accomplish this, the Project Northmoor charity has started a crowdfunding campaign. Lord of the Rings actors Sir Ian Mckellen, John Rhys-Davis and Martin Freeman are helping promote the fundraising campaign. The post has a link to the Project Northmoor site. The Project Northmoor site has all kinds of information about the fundraising and what the money will be used for. You can read about the gifts you will get by donating at the different levels. You can also donate from there.

 

Panzer says, "This little kitty can give up his kitty treats for a day to donate at The Hobbit level. How about you?"

Celebrating Christopher Tolkien's Cartography - Tor.com

Today as Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere he heard oohing and aahing coming from outside the Panzermobile. Following all the noise took our adventuresome kitty to the Tor.com site. With a little digging in the posts, he found one about J.R.R. Tolkien's estate executor Christopher Tolkien's middle-earth maps.

That is one l-o-n-g post.

According to Jonathan Crowe, J.R.R. Tolkien's son Christopher Tolkien was the cartographer for all the middle-earth novels.  Each Lord of the Rings novel featured a map at the beginning showing where the action in the story took place. The inclusion of maps became an influence on the fantasy genre. The post explains Christopher Tolkien's work on the maps, his father's need and use of the maps, and the need for recognition of the maps contributions to genre. There are links to other posts about Christopher Tolkien's recent death.

Panzer says, "This little kitty always liked referring to the maps to see where everybody was going and what was in between the start and the finish."

Christopher Tolkien, Keeper of His Father's Legacy, Dies at 95 - The New York Times

Today at The New York Times site Panzer learned Christopher Tolkien has died. Christopher Tolkien was the son of J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

According to the post by Katharine Q. Seelye and Alan Yuhas, Mr. Tolkien died on January 15 in Provence, France.

Tolkien film-makers insist they were respectful after estate disavows biopic - The Guardian

Today as Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere he heard angry shouting coming from outside the Panzermobile. Following all the noise took our inquisitive kitty to The Guardian site. There with a little digging in the posts he found one about the Lord of the Rings author  J.R.R. Tolkien.

According to Alison Flood, there's a "bio pic" of J.R.R. Tolkien's early years slated for release in May. The film-makers didn't consult the family or the estate about the material contained in the movie, but say the film is respectful of Tolkien. Since the family and estate had nothing to do with the film they refuse to endorse it. The post includes a link to a longer post explaining the family and estate's position on the film.

I'll do one about Mom and not ask. She'll like it.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... They made a film without consulting the family ... and ... now ... they want the family to say it's a great film. Well ... This little kitty doesn't think that's going to happen."

Did Tolkien write juvenile trash? - The Passive Voice

Panzer took a quick trip into the Catosphere today. Our big curious kitty boy decided to stop in at The Passive Voice site since he hasn't been there for a while. It didn't take any digging at all to find an interesting post because there was one right on top of the pile.

Juvenile, huh? Yes, you are.

Panzer couldn't pass up a post about one of his favorite fantasy authors of all time, J.R.R. Tolkien. After all ... our kitty boy cut his feline canine teeth on The Lord of the Rings. But ... the title of the post, "Did Tolkien write juvenile trash?" got his fur all bushed out. It turns out, when The Lord of the Rings was first published, the critics hated it. The critics called it trash. Not the readers though. They're still reading it even today. The post is a series of quotes from the BBC Culture site. There's a link to the BBC Culture site at the end of The Passive Voice post. The BBC site is an extract from Dominic Sandbrook's book The Great British Dream Factory about J.R.R. Tolkien.

Panzer says, "Nobody better say anything bad about J.R.R. Tolkien or The Lord of the Rings to this kitty or they'll be sorry."
