Groundwood Paper - KDP Publishing Feature

Here's some information about a new KDP Publishing feature Panzer discovered on the site.

 

Authors can now choose to use groundwood paper  instead of standard paper for their paperback books. You can learn about the advantages of using groundwood paper to lessen your carbon footprint and save money on printing at the site.

 

 Panzer says, "This little kitty has heard sometimes the letters show through the paper from the other side of the page."

Apple Discontinuing iBooks Author on July 1, Encourages Writers to Transition to Pages - MacRumors

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere, when he heard crying and the gnashing of teeth outside the Panzermobile. Following all the noise took our inquisitive kitty to the MacRumors site. There with no digging at all he found a post about Apple's iBooks Author software.

Not the best news of the day.

According to the post by Juli Clover, Apple sent an email to users of the iBooks Author software that the company is discontinuing the software. It will no longer be sold in the app store either. Instead the company wants iBooks Author users to start using Pages. According to the company, many of the iBooks Author features have been added to Pages. Effective July 1 iBook Author is gone.

Panzer says, "It's one of those human things. If people like it and use it, then you have to get rid of it. Then you can make a brighter, prettier, harder to use one and force people to use it."

A Month-Old Software Glitch is Still Stealing Page Views from eBooks in Kindle Unlimited - The Digital Reader

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere today when he heard the sound of shouting and crying. Following the noise took our brave kitty boy to The Digital Reader site. There he discovered the anger and frustration was directed at Amazon.

This needs watching.

According to a post by The Digital Reader site owner Nate Hoffelder, because of a software glitch Amazon's Kindle Unlimited (KU) has been short-changing ebook authors on their "sales" payments. Amazon doesn't pay authors for their ebook "sales" in KU because the ebooks are free to KU users. Instead, authors are paid by the number of pages the user reads in the ebooks. Recently authors have noticed their pages read numbers are lower than previously reported. After the problem was reported Amazon told the authors the problem had been fixed. However, authors are still reporting their page reads are down.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Have a problem ... Fixed the problem ... But still under-paying authors ... Interesting how the problem got fixed."

Facebook Pages vs Profiles

Panzer and I are still not feeling 100%, but we managed a short trip into the Catosphere today.

We parked the Panzermobile at author Nathan Bransford's blog. He has an informative post about whether as an author you should use Facebook's Pages option or Profiles option. He's got the pros and cons of each listed for you. You can study each and make your own decision about which is right for you.
