Amazon Printing Press and Pricing Scams: What Authors Need to Know - Kindleprenuer

This is going to be a short post today. Our wi fi has been on and off all day, so we don't know how much time we've got to get this uploaded.

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Kindleprenuer site. There our intrepid kitty traveler found a post about scams using authors' stolen books being run on Amazon.

 

They can't fix our wi fi until tomorrow.

According to Jason Hamilton's post, people are stealing authors' books by printing bad quality books and then selling them on Amazon as either the books' publisher or the authors. The post also explains the repercussions for the authors from this activity. A second scam also using Amazon is discussed in the post as well.

 

Panzer says, "There's more to the post, but we need to hurry in case we lose our wi fi again."

eBook Piracy - How to Respond If Someone Steals Your eBook Online - The Digital Reader

As Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere he decided to make a stop at The Digital Reader site. With a little digging in the posts our kitty boy found one about what to do when you find someone has pirated your ebook.

Why do humans steal?

According to The Digital Reader site owner Nate Hoffelder's post, he recently discovered someone had pirated one of his ebooks. Since this necessitated the filing of a DMCA take down notice, he decided to describe the process. The three possible types of locations of the pirated material are described. It's then explained how to determine where to send the take down notice. The last section of the post contains links to companies or people who will do the work for you, if you don't want to.

Panzer says, "This is the kind of information all authors need to know."

Kindle Counterfeiting - A Growing Threat to Authors

Panzer made a short trip into the Catosphere. Our kitty boy stopped in at John Doppler's Words on Words blog. Digging around he found a post from August of last year that indie authors need to be aware of.

You better watch out.

According to the post, there's a counterfeiting piracy scheme going on. What happened to author Rebecca Merry Murdock is used as an example. A scammer stole her ebook and royalties. They did this by uploading a copy of the ebook and then making a duplicate sales page. The sales page got connected to her author page. Ms. Murdock was able to track down what was happening and contact Amazon. If she hadn't been checking her ebooks, she never would have know what happened.

Panzer says, "We better all check our ebooks just to make sure it's not happening to any of us.!"
