Smashwords 2022 Year in Review and 2023 Preview - Smashwords Blog

Today, Panzer made a trip over to the Smashwords Blog. There our intrepid kitty traveler found a new post about Smashwords' past and the company's future.

It's like losing a friend.
In the post Mark Coker explains the steps Draft2Digital (D2D) has accomplished in the takeover of Smashwords since the March 2022 purchase of Smashwords. He also explains the steps which remain to be finished in 2023. Once the takeover is complete Smashwords will no longer be an ebook publisher, but, instead, a bookstore.

Panzer says, "This little kitty will be sorry to see Smashwords publishing gone."

This is a long post. Bring a cup of cocoa and a muffin for today's reading selection.

Barnes & Noble to explore a sale - Chicago Business Journal

Who do you think it is?
Panzer had hardly gotten into the Catosphere when the Panzermobile was buffeted by screaming and crying and gnashing of teeth. Following all the noise took our brave kitty boy to the Chicago Business Journal. There he found a post about the possible sale of Barnes and Noble.

According to the post by Gina Hall, Barnes and Noble is considering a sale of the company. Chairman Leonard Riggio has expressed interest in purchasing the company. It also appears someone or another company is buying up Barnes and Noble's stock. Barnes and Noble has put into place "a short-term shareholders rights plan" to try "to dilute an outsider's holdings."

Panzer says, "It sounds like a hostile takeover attempt to this little kitty."

Note: This is a medium post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection.

B&N Dismisses Takeover Proposal - Publishers Weekly

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Publishers Weekly site. There our traveling kitty boy found a post about Barnes and Noble.

Huh?
According to the post by Jim Milliot, Barnes and Noble announced Sandell Asset Management made an  offer to take Barnes and Noble private (buy?) for a reported $650 million.* Apparently, Sandell would start a new company, all the Barnes and Noble shareholders would be required to put their shares into the new company, and then Sandell would control the new company. Barnes and Noble stated in their announcement the company (and founder Len Riggio) had rejected the offer.

Panzer says, "Sandell wants to do what?"

Note: This is a short post. Bring half a cup of tea for today's reading selection.
