Authors Win $7.8 Million Default Judgment in Global Piracy Lawsuit - Publishers Weekly

As  Panzer was taking his noon nap today he rudely shaken from his kitty bed by clapping and cheering coming from the Catosphere. Hopping into the Panzermobile our brave kitty boy followed the ruckus to the Publishers Weekly site. There he discovered a post about a judgment in a global piracy lawsuit was causing all the joyful noise.

 

Library? No. Piracy site? Yes.

The post by Andrew Albanese says the lawsuit filed by the Authors Guild, Amazon Publishing, PRH, and several authors against the KISS Library for ebook piracy has been decided. The judge decided the KISS Library is an ebook piracy site. KISS Library was ordered to shut down all domain sites. The owners of the site were also ordered to pay $7.8 million.

 

Panzer says, "Piracy is stealing and when you're caught you will pay."

Judge issues preliminary injunction for Amazon and top authors in lawsuit against 'pirate' book site - GeekWire

Today as Panzer was sweeping out the Panzermobile, our illustrious kitty found a wadded up post under the pilot seat. Flattening the post out, he discovered it was from the GeekWire site and about the court case against the KISS Library site. In July Panzer told you about the lawsuit filed against KISS Library by Amazon, publisher Penguin Random House (PRH) and several individual authors.

Don't steal. You will get caught.

According to the post by GeekWire's Taylor Soper, the judge in the case has issued a preliminary injunction ordering KISS Library and all its assorted other sites to shut down. To accomplish the shutdown, the judge ordered domain registrars to de-activate the KISS-owned domain names. In the judge's opinion these are pirate sites and they distributed and sold copyrighted material without the copyright owners' permission.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... This little kitty wonders what these pirates will do now."

Authors Guild, Amazon, PRH File Suit Against E-book Pirate Site - Publishers Weekly

Today Panzer decided to make a stop at the Publishers Weekly site. With hardly any digging in the posts our traveling kitty boy discovered one about an effort by Amazon, the Authors Guild and publisher Penguin Random House (PRH) to close down the piracy ebook site KISS Library.

Stealing is stealing.

According to the Publishers Weekly Staff post, the Authors Guild, Amazon and Penguin Random House have filed a lawsuit against the ebook piracy site KISS Library. The KISS Library is located in Ukraine. The KISS Library uses other sites such as Kissly.net, Libly.net and others to sell illegal, pirated ebooks to buyers in the U.S. The post includes a link to the Authors Guild's announcement about the the lawsuit and also included is a link to the court filing.

Panzer says, "Don't they realize that by stealing my ebooks they're taking the food right out of my kitty dish?"
