Today Panzer made a stop at the Publishers Daily site. There our traveling kitty found a post about the new Children's Booker Prize.

 

Emma Kantor's post has information about the new prize and the search for child judges to be added to the adult judges. Included in the post are links to previous posts about the prize.

Judge issues preliminary injunction for Amazon and top authors in lawsuit against 'pirate' book site - GeekWire

Today as Panzer was sweeping out the Panzermobile, our illustrious kitty found a wadded up post under the pilot seat. Flattening the post out, he discovered it was from the GeekWire site and about the court case against the KISS Library site. In July Panzer told you about the lawsuit filed against KISS Library by Amazon, publisher Penguin Random House (PRH) and several individual authors.

Don't steal. You will get caught.

According to the post by GeekWire's Taylor Soper, the judge in the case has issued a preliminary injunction ordering KISS Library and all its assorted other sites to shut down. To accomplish the shutdown, the judge ordered domain registrars to de-activate the KISS-owned domain names. In the judge's opinion these are pirate sites and they distributed and sold copyrighted material without the copyright owners' permission.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... This little kitty wonders what these pirates will do now."

EU Court Rules Lower Sales Tax Only Applies to Print, Not eBooks - The Digital Reader

Panzer was jolted from his afternoon nap by crying and shouting coming from the Catosphere. Hopping into the Panzermobile, he followed the weeping and gnashing of teeth to The Digital Reader site. There our brave kitty found a post about the EU Court of Justice.

Please explain this to me.

According to the post at The Digital Reader, the European Court of Justice in announcing their decision in the digital book VAT case ruled digital books will be charged a higher tax than printed books. According to the EU Court judges, digital books are electronic and not allowed the lower rate because the EU legislature  "consists in the exclusion of all electronic services from the possibility of a reduced rate of VAT being applied."

Panzer says, "Hmm ... When is a book not a book? I'll never understand humans."
