Shadows on the Stairs is a 1941 black and white murder mystery set in London. It's 1 hour 2 minutes long.

London: Top Publishing Organizations on AI Protection - Publishing Perspectives

We need to watch what happens.

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Publishing Perspectives site. With just a tiny bit of digging in the posts he found one by Porter Anderson about AI's place in publishing.

The post describes what the UK's Publishers Association, the Society of Authors, the Association of Authors and Agents, and the Authors Licensing and Collecting Society have said in a statement explaining their position on the use of AI in publishing. The post includes the statement as well as links to other information on each group.

 

Panzer says, "Here's what this little kitty thinks it says: AI can't think, feel and create on its own like a human can. So, no it can't write books. Only humans can write books."

Coronavirus: Reed Exhibitions Cancels London Book Fair 'With Reluctance' - Publishing Perspectives

Panzer was shaken from his nap in his kitty bed by crying and moaning coming from the Catosphere. Hopping in the Panzermobile, our brave kitty followed all the noise to the Publishing Perspectives site. There he learned the sad news about the London Book Fair.

According to Porter Anderson's post, this month's London Book Fair has been cancelled due to the coronavirus (Covid-19). As publishers were withdrawing, travel restrictions were being imposed and more cases of the virus were being reported in the UK, Reed Exhibitions decided to cancel the Book Fair. The UK government declared coronavirus a 'notifiable disease' so the Book Fair's losses will be covered by insurance. There are several links in the post.

Panzer says, "I heard Mom tell What's His Name she heard some guy on the television say 80 percent of the people who get that virus thingy hardly get sick at all. The other 20 percent get really, really sick and a lot of them die. The guy said not to worry about it though.  Because ... the 80 percent are 60 years and younger and the 20 percent are over 60 years old. ... Hmm ... Don't worry. ... Because ... It's just those grandmas and grandpas that will be gone."

S&S and Ingram Cancel: COVID-19 Concerns Mount for London Book Fair - Publishing Perspectives

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the Publishing Perspectives site. It didn't take any digging at all to find a post about the London Book Fair.

I wouldn't go if I might get stuck there.

According to Porter Anderson, the coronavirus (COVID-19) is behind the withdrawl of publishers Simon and Schuster and the Ingram Content Group from the London Book Fair. Aside from the possibility of contracting COVID-19, attendees have other worries. If an attendee is exposed to an infected person, there is the14 days of isolation either in London or upon returning to their home country.  Also, if there are new travel restrictions, an attendee may not even be allowed to travel home. The Book Fair is scheduled for March 10 to 12.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... This virus thingy is starting to cause a lot of trouble for the publishing industry."

Amazon 'hunting for high street sites in London' - The Bookseller

Today, Panzer made a quick trip into the Catosphere. Our adventurous kitty stopped in at The Bookseller site. There he found a post about Amazon's rumored foray into the U.K.

A mouse, a bug, some catnip ...

According to the post by The Bookseller's staff, Amazon is looking at expanding its physical presence to London. Quoting from a post on the Sunday Times site, The Bookseller reports Amazon is looking for a location for one of their Amazon Go grocery stores. Patrons of the Amazon Go store give Amazon access to purchasing information as they shop in the store. When they exit the store the money for their purchases is automatically deducted from their account. There is no mention of a bricks-and-mortar book store.
