Panzer found a post at the Mystery Fanfare site about the Deadly Pleasures Mystery Magazine.

 

The magazine is now a free online pdf download. The post includes a link to the download and how to get notified when each new issue becomes available. 

 

 Panzer says, "I downloaded it and signed up as soon as I read the post."

New eBook Download Options Coming For Readers Coming in 2026 - KDP Community

It doesn't look hard to do.

Today, Panzer made a stop at the KDP Community site. There he discovered an important post for Amazon authors.

 

Beginning in January readers can download newly published ebooks in PDF and EPUB formats. If your book was previously published at KDP, there are instructions to add your ebook to the program. The post also includes a link to more information.

 

Panzer says, "I guess this little kitty better get his ebooks ready for the new option now."

PDFs?

When Panzer was washing the Panzermobile this morning, he found something stuck in the wheelwell. Pulling it out, our busy kitty discovered a post from The Digital Reader site about PDFs and ereaders.

The Digital Reader site owner Nate Hoffelder gives advise on ereaders and tablets for reading PDFs. The post is in answer to a question he received in an email about ereaders and PDFs. It's a short post.

Panzer says, "Mom doesn't get many PDFs, but when she does she reads them on her laptop."

Dropbox Quietly Launches an Epub Viewer - The Digital Reader

Panzer made a quick trip into the Catosphere today. Our speedy kitty stopped in at The Digital Reader site. With a little digging he found a post about Dropbox.

Hmm ... Why is it a secret?

According to The Digital Reader site owner Nate Hoffelder, Dropbox has an unannounced new feature. With no fanfare by Dropbox an epub viewer has been added. Since the feature lacks formatting capabilities, it's not an epub reader but an epub viewer. Dropbox allows users to store their document and graphics zip files and mobi, epub and pdf book files. The post includes instructions for the epub viewer use. Read the Comments section too.

Panzer says, "Mom has a Dropbox account and nobody told her about the epub viewer."

Bought a PDF From Kobo? It's Going Away After 1 November - The Digital Reader

Panzer is still recovering from yesterday's catnip partying to celebrate International Cat Day. He was just tootling around in the Catosphere nursing his kitty headache, when his poor kitty ears were assailed by growling and hissing.  To quiet the noise he followed it to The Digital Reader site. There he discovered a post about Kobo was the cause of all the hullabaloo.

Did you know?

According to the post by The Digital Reader site owner Nate Hoffelder, Kobo will no longer support PDF books effective November 1. Kobo posted on their site that they will try to provide past PDF purchasers with EPUB versions of their PDFs. If that's not possible, the purchasers downloading of the PDFs will be necessary.

Panzer says, "Umm ... This little kitty didn't even know he could get PDFs from Kobo."

Selling In The Google Play Store

Droid and tablet sales?

Okay, Panzer admits it. He had never heard of the Google Play Store. That is until he found a post by R.J. Crayton at the Indies Unlimited site about uploading your ebook to the Google Play Store.

So, what is the Google Play Store? It's a store you can upload your ebook to in either the PDF or ePub format for sale to primarily droid and tablet users. According to Ms. Crayton's post one of the important things an author needs to be aware of is the fact Google discounts the price of your ebook. Of course, this can cause problems with the Amazon price match feature. Fortunately, the post contains a link to a list of prices and the discounts, so you can determine what to price your ebook at.

If you follow the link "a tutorial tomorrow" at the bottom of the post, you'll be taken to a second post which shows screenshots and more instructions for setting up an account at the Google Play Store. According to the second post, it's not easy!

Panzer says, "Hmmm. Access to droid and tablet users for ebook sales? That might be worth all the questions and trouble for authors using the site."

Panzer was out in the Catosphere and stopped in at LifeHack site. He found a treasure trove of FREE resources there in a post by Loralee Hutton for those of you ready to jump into the PDF publishing world.

There are tools at Lifehack for organizing your ideas, putting together your outline, using Powerpoint, and converting to the PDF format. Each of them is included in a list with a description of their use and a link to their site.

Why PDF? Because you can sell your ebook from your own site or give it away. Either way you are building your following for your Kindle, Nook or Kobo ebooks.

Panzer and I were out in the Catosphere today and found a FREE online copy of Mike Shea's Ebook Publishing Tips.

The essay contains tips for doing a Kindle ebook, doing a PDF, using Calibre and a lot more. There's a clickable Table of Contents to make it really easy for you to find what you're looking for. There's also a clickable resource list at the end, too.

Usually on Tuesday I do a book review about what I'm reading now. Instead, this Tuesday I decided to give you a little gift.

1. Lynn Viehl's Paperback Writer Freebies . Lynn Viehl has made several of her short stories, novellas and novels available as free PDF downloads. No registration required.

2. Free Kindle Promotional Titles . This is Amazon's own free download site. (You do need to pay attention to the list price. Some of the ebooks go off free download promotion and it takes a while before they are removed from this site. So read before you hit the Download button. You have been warned!)
