World's Highest-Paid Authors 2017: J.K. Rowling Leads With $95 Million - Forbes

Panzer was shaken awake from his nap by clapping and cheering coming from the Catosphere. Jumping into the Panzermobile our speedy little kitty boy headed out to see what all the noise was about. He soon discovered a post at the Forbes site about Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.

According to Hayley C. Cuccinello, it's official. With $95 million in author earnings over the past 12 months J.K. Rowling is the highest paid author in the entire world. Ms. Rowling even bested James Patterson and Stephen King for the title. About halfway through the post is a gallery of photos with descriptions of the highest paid authors. Included in the descriptions is the amount each author tallied for the year. When you first arrive at the Forbes site there is an advertisement. October 2016 Author Earnings Report: A Turning Tide ... ? - Author Earnings

It doesn't look good for indies.

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere today when he heard crying and moaning. Following the noise took our inquisitive kitty to the Author Earnings site. There he found the cause was the latest indie Author Earnings Report.

According to the Author Earnings site's Data Guy, indie authors' income has fallen "back to early 2015 levels." The report covers the May to October Amazon indie sales. Possible causes for the lower author earnings are explored ranging from Amazon's own book publishing arm to the Book Bub Effect. There are several sales charts included to illustrate different points in the post. In the end, there appears to be no final answer to the falling earnings.

May 2016 Author Earnings Report: the definitive million-title study of US author earnings - Author Earnings

The Panzermobile ran out of fuel today in the Catosphere. Our excellent kitty pilot managed to land his craft safely at the Author Earnings site. While he was waiting for the fuel delivery he did a little digging around there and found a report about author earnings.

After all that I need a nap.

According to the post by Data Guy, the site used a "spider" to search  tremendous amounts of data at Amazon to put the earnings report together. The report contains information about the number of authors making six and seven figure incomes all the way to the number of authors making three figure incomes. This is a comprehensive report covering everything from single titles to series.

Panzer says, "It has information on one million writers!"
