It's called a Holiday Bonus.

Panzer found an announcement on the American Booksellers Association's (ABA) site about author James Patterson. As he did last year he'll be giving Holiday Bonuses to booksellers at independent bookstores. A bookseller's nomination form must be submitted by October 31 to be considered.

 

The announcement contains all the rules and a link to the nomination form.

 

Panzer says, "It's a short nomination form."

James Patterson Holiday Bookstore Bonus Program Returns For 2024 - BookWeb

It's a Christmas Bonus.

Panzer found this interesting post on the American Booksellers Association (ABA) site.

According to the post, author James Patterson is reopening his independent bookstore booksellers holiday bonus program. This year 600 booksellers will each receive $500. To be nominated the bookseller must work at an indie bookstore. All the rules are included in the post.

 

Panzer says, "Since the post doesn't include a link to nominate a bookseller, it looks like you'll have to go to your local indie bookstore for the website URL."

Bill Clinton writing a second thriller with James Patterson - The Guardian

Today, Panzer decided to make a quick stop at The Guardian site. With no digging in the posts at all our inquisitive kitty found one about Bill Clinton and James Paterson's newest novel writing enterprise.

Hmm ... A U.S. President for your co-author.

According to Alison Flood's post, former U.S. President Bill Clinton is writing a second novel with James Patterson. This novel is titled The President's Daughter. Their first novel together, The President is Missing, is being made into a television movie by Showtime.

Panzer says, "Who better to write novels about presidents than a former president?"

World's Highest-Paid Authors 2017: J.K. Rowling Leads With $95 Million - Forbes

Panzer was shaken awake from his nap by clapping and cheering coming from the Catosphere. Jumping into the Panzermobile our speedy little kitty boy headed out to see what all the noise was about. He soon discovered a post at the Forbes site about Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.

According to Hayley C. Cuccinello, it's official. With $95 million in author earnings over the past 12 months J.K. Rowling is the highest paid author in the entire world. Ms. Rowling even bested James Patterson and Stephen King for the title. About halfway through the post is a gallery of photos with descriptions of the highest paid authors. Included in the descriptions is the amount each author tallied for the year. When you first arrive at the Forbes site there is an advertisement. Authors Guild to Award Morrison, Patterson, IngramSpark - Publishers' Weekly

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Publishers' Weekly (PW) site. There our speedy kitty found a news release about the Authors Guild.

Maybe I will use them.

According to the release, on May 24 the Authors Guild will present authors Toni Morrison and James Patterson and self-publisher IngramSpark with awards for their contributions to American literature.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... I've been looking at IngramSpark for my paperback books."

James Patterson Cancels the Publication of The Murder of Stephen King - GalleyCat

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the GalleyCat site. There our adventuresome kitty boy found a post about bestselling author James Patterson.

Why would you call it that?

According to a post by Maryann Yin, James Patterson decided not to publish his novel The Killing of Stephen King. The novel was written for the James Patterson BookShots series. These are books 150 pages or less. After learning about fans who had caused problems for author Stephen King Mr. Patterson decided not to publish the book.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Humans ... Why would you even consider a title like that to begin with?"

The Pulp Fiction Dime Novel Is Making a Comeback

Panzer made a short trip into the Catosphere today. Our intrepid kitty explorer went to the Observer site.  He hasn't been there for a long time, so it took a while and a lot of digging to find a post for you.

According to the post by Parker Richards, mega-bestselling author James Patterson has a new project called BookShots. It's meant to be a resurrection of the old time Dime Novels. The books will be novella length, less than 150 pages, paper books. Since these will be physical books, they won't be in competition with Amazon's Kindle Singles which are similar but digital.

Whew! I am so glad Mom is better.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... If Mr. Patterson's business turns out to be successful, I wonder if Amazon will follow suit with shorter physical books?"

MasterClass to Host the "Co-Author A Book With James Patterson" Writing Competition - Galley Cat

Panzer took his time today looking for news for you. Our kitty traveler stopped in at GalleyCAT. Digging around he found a post about bestselling author James Patterson.

Pretty expensive contest.

According to a post by Maryann Yin, MasterClass is sponsoring a contest in which the winner will co-author a book with multi-bestselling author James Patterson. There are some stringent rules contestants must adhere to. The first is that you must be signed up for Mr. Patterson's writing class. You also must submit writing samples for your proposed book. There's a link at the bottom of the post to the rules for the contest and to signup for the class.

Panzer says, "I don't know if I want to pay $90 to take a class so I can enter a contest. Just saying, that's a lot of kitty treats."

Douglas Preston-Authors United vs Amazon Continues

You guys are washing the Panzermobile.

Panzer headed out into the Catosphere, but his radar wasn't working because he immediately ran into a Douglas Preston-Hachette-Authors United vs Amazon cloud.

My poor little kitty could barely see out to keep control of the Panzermobile while he was dodging all the flying fertilizer and guano.

My intrepid captain finally landed the ship at the Publisher's Weekly site first. There he found a post by Paige Crutcher. The post was about the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance's luncheon for bestselling author James Patterson. Also present was Michael Pietsch representing Mr. Patterson's publisher Hachette.

As one of Panzer's friends, you'll remember that Mr. Patterson is one of the signers of Douglas Preston's letter/ad in the New York Times and the letter to the Amazon Board of Directors.

While neither Mr. Patterson or Mr. Pietsch made any direct comments about their dispute with Amazon, Mr. Patterson did make a disparaging joke about Amazon. All in all, the post makes interesting reading.

However, what was really splatting the Panzermobile was the post Panzer found when he stopped at The Passive Voice site next. It seems bestselling author Douglas Preston and his Authors United group have come up with another letter. This one is to the U.S. Department of Justice.

For what?

They want the DoJ to start an antitrust investigation of Amazon because they don't like the way the company does business.

Panzer says, "Let me get this straight ... Hachette still hasn't signed a new contract with Amazon to sell their books, but you guys want the DoJ and the US government to spend money to force Amazon to sell Hachette's books as if there was a contract."
