Seattle's New Favorite Place to Drink: In the Bookstore - The Stranger

Chicken and tacos. Good idea.

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he stopped in at The Stranger site. This was our traveling kitty's first visit to the site so it took a little digging to find something for today's post. Finally, he found an interesting post about bookstores and restaurants. For several months Panzer has been telling you about Barnes and Noble CEO Len Riggio's plans for his new concept stores with their inside restaurants.

According to the post by Naomi Tomky, Barnes and Noble's new concept stores aren't the only ones serving food and alcohol in the bookstores. It turns out non Barnes and Noble affiliated bookstores in Seattle, Washington, have had restaurants with alcohol for a decade. In some you can order fried chicken or tacos with your alcoholic drinks before you go look for a new book.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Okay ... lots of people in Seattle like to go to bookstores to eat and drink. ... So ... Why even bother to sell books there?"

Jaime Carey Leaving Barnes & Noble - PW (Publishers' Weekly)

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the Publishers' Weekly site. There our big bad kitty found a post about Barnes and Noble and their concept stores.

Hmm ... Who's next to go?

According to the post by Jim Milliot, the head of the development and restaurant group Jaime Carey is leaving Barnes and Noble. Mr. Carey has been with the company since January 2005. He will remain with Barnes and Noble until the end of February 2017. The company plans to continue opening their new concept stores with the dining and alcohol-serving restaurants.

Panzer says, "Barnes and Noble didn't terminate (fire) Mr. Carey. He resigned when they took away all of his job duties."

B&N Concept Store to Open Nov. 22 - PW (Publishers' Weekly)

Today's trip took Panzer to the Publishers' Weekly site. There our adventuresome traveling kitty pilot found a post about Barnes and Noble's new concept stores.

According to the post by Jim Milliot, Barnes and Noble has announced the opening date for their first concept store is November 22. The new store is located in Eastchester, New York. As Panzer told you before, these new concept stores have restaurants that serve alcohol as well as food.

I don't want to hear anymore about it.

Panzer says, "Why do you humans want to drink alcohol with everything? Food? ... Books? What's next? In the bathtub? Oh, wait. You already do that."

What Barnes & Noble Doesn't Get About Bookstores - The New Yorker

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panser to The New Yorker site. There with a little digging around our enterprising kitty found a post about Barnes and Noble.

According to the post by David Sax, Barnes and Noble CEO Leonard Riggio has given clarification for some changes for the bookstores. As previously announced, Barnes and Noble is opening five new smaller "concept" stores. Mr. Riggio explained this is to give book buyers the small independent bookstore feel. He believes independent bookstores which are successful also serve good food and coffee, so these new smaller Barnes and Noble "concept" bookstores will served breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as alcohol. Mr. Sax points out in the post that Independent bookstores also have a friendlier more family-oriented feel to them which he believes Mr. Riggio will also need to address.

I'm free if the shelf is big enough.

Panzer says, "A kitty sleeping on a bookshelf would be nice too."

Legacy West Announces New Barnes & Noble Concept Store - Press Release

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the Book Business site. There our traveling kitty boy found some news about Barnes and Noble.

Couple of drinks. Read a book. Right.

According to a post at Book Business, Legacy West said in a press release yesterday that in March 2017 Barnes and Noble is opening one of their new concept stores in the Legacy West development in Plano, Texas.

Panzer says, "Yes, kittens, this is one of those stores with the restaurant that serves alcohol to increase your reading pleasure."

Looking to Future, B & N Puts Its Faith In Bricks and Mortar - PW

Interesting idea ... I guess.

Panzer's search in the Catoshere looking for news took him to the Publishers' Weekly site today. There our kitty pilot discovered the latest news about Barnes and Noble.

According to a post by Jim Milliot, Barnes and Noble executives held a conference on Thursday to let their investors know the company's plans for the future. It was announced B and N is opening new stores with "cafes" that serve alcohol. The new cafes will be larger than the previous in-store cafes and will feature chef prepared meals. Also announced wwere cuts to the Nook side of the business. Buried near the end of the announcement is the fact the company will be making another announcement about a new print on demand portion of business.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Do they think human who drink a lot of alcohol will buy more books?"

New B & N Concept Store Sprouts in Winchester County - PW (Publishers' Weekly)

Panzer made a leisurely trip into the Catosphere today. Tootling around there, our big bad kitty boy stopped in at the Publishers' Weekly site. With a little digging around he found a post about Barnes and Noble's new concept stores that he told you about in March.

I think I know your secret.

According to the post by Jim Milliot, Barnes and Noble has picked a location in Eastchester, N.Y., for their first new concept store. The company's site plan has already been approved by the planning commission. Permits have also been approved for a restaurant at the location. In keeping with Barnes and Noble's secretive nature about the concept stores, rather vague descriptions were given about the store's interior at the planning commission meetings.

Panzer says, "It still sounds like they plan their stores to be like the new Amazon bricks and mortar stores to me."
