16 Copyright-Free Photo Sites

Photos for covers.

Panzer was out in the Catosphere looking for copyright-free stock photos for use as possible ebook covers. My bad kitty boy happened to find a post by Katelyn Pointek at Bad Language blog with a list of photo sites.

Ms. Pointek found sixteen sites that offer Creative Commons or Public Domain photos. The sites have three access options. Some of the sites offer access to everyone, some offer free signup membership, and some are subscription services.

Free Photo Editing Tools

Today Panzer and I were out tootling around the catosphere just having a good time and looking for nothing in particular.

We happened to find Caitlin Muir's post at Author Media about using free photo editing tools.

Neither Panzer nor I have ever heard of the four free editing tools she describes: PicMonkey, FotoFlexer, BeFunky or Citrify.

Believe me, if you don't have thumbs (like Panzer) or you're all thumbs (like me), you can imagine what our photos look like and you'll know why we love these editing tools!

Tootle on over to 4 Free Photo Editing Tools You'll Love and take a look.

Oh, Panzer wants me to tell you to read all the way to the end of Caitlin's post, she's also got some links for photos too.

4 Free Public Domain Photo Sites

Here are four sites to search for photos (and clipart) for your ebook covers or your blog.

1. Photoshop Support . Here you'll find a large list of stock photo sites. Some charge a fee but, if you read the descriptions below the list, you'll find some sites are royalty free (but read all copyright information).

2. imcphoto.net . A small site, but the photos are excellent and free. Scroll down until you see the photos and it says Public Domain Photos.

3. PD Photo.org . This site has hundreds of free and public domain photos. Search the Category Column on the right.

4. WP Clipart.  Not a public domain photo site, this is a free clipart site. (The thumbnails don't do the clipart justice. Click on the thumbnail to see what the clipart really looks like.)

To test these sites, I've downloaded from each. They were easy and simple to use.

If you've used any other photo download sites, post them in the Comment section below.

Usual disclaimer: When going to unfamiliar sites, keep your virus scanner on and firewall up.
