Will the Diamond Bankruptcy Change the Comics Business Forever? - Publishers Weekly

Panzer says, A bankruptcy is never a good thing.
A bankruptcy is never a good thing.
Today, Panzer found a post at the Publishers Weekly Daily site about the Diamond bankruptcy.

If you're a comic books or graphic novels lover, you probably already know Diamond Comics Distributor filed for bankruptcy in January. Heidi MacDonald's post has quotes from several comic publishers and bookstore owners about how they're planning to deal with the bankruptcy fallout. Diamond distributed not only comics and graphic novels, but toys, games and collectibles too. The post includes links to other information about the bankruptcy.

Panzer says, "Mom said a few years ago a magazine distributor went bankrupt and some magazines went bankrupt because the distributor didn't pay them their money."

Note: This is a very long, long post. You'll need to decide what to bring to snack on while you read.

Comics Thrive in Libraries Through Digital Lending - Publishers Weekly

Panzer says, Did you know about this?
Did you know about this?
Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he stopped in at the Publishers Weekly site. There with no digging at all he found a post about comics.

Brigid Alverson's post is about the Comic Plus platform. Comic Plus allows school students to check out comic graphic novels from their school libraries. The post also covers other school library platforms and has interviews.

Panzer says, "This little kitty didn't know you could check out "graphic novels" from school libraries."

Note: This is a long-medium post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection.

RWA Urges 'NYT' to Reconsider Bestseller List Decision - Publishers' Weekly

Today Panzer took a trip into the Catosphere to see what he could find about the New York Times cutting some of their bestseller lists. Our inquiring kitty told you about the cuts a few days ago. His information gathering trip today took him to the Publishers' Weekly site.  After a little digging he found information about publishers reactions to the cuts.

According to a post from the Romance Writers of America (RWA), the group would like the New York Times (NYT) to reconsider the cutting of the mass market and ebook bestseller lists. The RWA feels its female romance author members are being discriminated against since they dominate these bestseller lists.

According to a second post Panzer found, graphic novel and manga publishers were upset to learn that those bestseller lists are also being cut. Most of these publishers feel the loss of the graphic novel and manga bestseller lists will impact their sales.
Wake me in a week.

Panzer says, "Maybe the New York Times should have given some notice they were going to make these cuts."

Note: These posts taken as a whole are very long. Bring three thermos of tea and four dozen muffins if you plan to read all three posts in today's reading selection.

George R.R. Martin's "Wild Cards" in Development at Universal Cable Productions - Variety

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the Variety site. There are our happy kitty traveler found some news about one of his favorite fantasy authors George R.R. Martin.

According to the post by Laura Prudom, Universal Cable Productions has bought the rights to George R.R. Martin's "Wild Cards". UCP will develop a new television series based on the "Wild Cards" books and stories. The "Wild Cards" volumes have been running since 1986 and total twenty-three, including one being published this month. There are "Wild Cards" books, stories, comics/graphic novels, and games. The post includes a link to Mr. Martin's original announcement about the arrangement with UCP.

Panzer says, "Just about the time the "Game of Thrones" series ends the "Wild Cards" series will begin."

I need a nap after that long trip.
Note: The Variety post is long and George R.R. Martin's post is extra long. Bring two thermoses of tea and a dozen muffins and a dozen cookies (biscuits) if you plan to read both of today's reading selections.
