20 Books of Summer is back! With new hosts

It's looks like fun.

Here's an interesting reading challenge Panzer found online. Although it says 20 books, you can choose 10 or 15 or 20 books to read. Also, it says Summer reading, but it can be Winter reading depending on where you live and which season it is for you.

 

 The site has a Bingo game, a place to signup, logos for your site, and a place to invite your friends.

 

It started June 1 to August 31. Panzer just discovered it, but there's still time to signup.

You can now buy physical products in games and apps with Amazon Anywhere - About Amazon

Had to tell you about it now.

Today at the Amazon site Panzer found a post about the new Amazon Anywhere function.

 

According to Steve Downer, VP of Consumer Electronics, Amazon Anywhere is currently available in the new Peridot game. You can purchase Peridot merchandise through the in-game store. The post includes a description of Amazon Anywhere, instructions for its use and instructions for creators and developers.

 

Panzer says, "Sounds interesting."

Have you discover Wordle? - Writers Who Kill

Panzer was just getting ready for his afternoon nap, when he heard laughing and clapping coming from the Catosphere. Hopping in the Panzermobile, our illustrious kitty boy followed all the jocularity to the Writers Who Kill site. There he found a post about a word game called Wordle.

 

According to the post by Paula Gail Benson, it's a fun and addictive word puzzle game. Wordle was created in October 2021 and millions of people are now playing it. The post explains the history of the game and the rules.

B&N to Release New Nook Tablet in April - Publishers Weekly

 Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard clapping coming from outside the Panzermobile. Following all the noise took our brave kitty boy to the Publishers Weekly site. There with no digging at all he found a short summary of a press release from Barnes and Noble.

 

According to Publishers Weekly, the press release states the new Barnes and Noble Nook is set to hit the market in April. The $129.99 Nook isn't just an ereader. You can also play games and watch videos on it. The post includes a link to the Barnes and Noble press release.

 

It looks interesting.

It Took COVID Closures to Reveal Just How Much Libraries Do Beyond Lending Books - The Observer

Today Panzer was just minding his own cat business and tootling around in the Catosphere, when the Panzermobile was shaken by clapping and cheering coming from outside. Following all the hullabaloo took our adventuresome kitty boy to the Observer site. There he found a post about U.S. and U.K. libraries.

 

According to the Observer post by Gillian Harvey, many people are not aware of all the available services provided by the U.S. and U.K. libraries.  With the Covid-19 lockdowns, today's libraries offer more than checking out physical books. Now library patrons can make use of numerous virtual services. These include online educational training for children and adults, recreational training such as learning to paint,  games for children, and more. This is an in depth post with lots of information.

 

Mom is taking a class there too.

B&N Cuts Q2 Losses as Comp Sales Improve - Publishers Weekly

I love Thanksgiving.

Panzer is still recovering from Thanksgiving dinner; so, today's trip into the Catosphere was a quick one to the Publishers Weekly site. With a little digging around in the posts our waddling kitty boy found one about Barnes and Noble.

According to Jim Milliot, Barnes and Noble announced the company's sales figures for the second quarter. Compared to the same time frame in 2017 book sales declined by 3 percent, but toys, games and cafe sales increased by 1.9 percent. The company was also able to cut its operating loss nearly in half from $52.2 million to $26.8 million.

Panzer says, "Let's see how they do in the holiday season."

Barnes and Noble opening prototype store in Vernon Hills - Chicago Business Journal

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the Chicago Business Journal site. With no digging at all our traveling kitty found a post about Barnes and Noble.

How comfortable are the chairs?

According to the Chicago Business Journal's Les Lazare, Barnes and Noble opened their newest prototype bookstore today in Vernon Hills, Illinois. Panzer told you yesterday about Barnes and Noble's plans to open three new prototype stores by the end of the year. The new store is 17,400 square feet. In addition to books the store has toys, games for adults and children, and puzzles. In the children's section there is a Lego table. There are chairs located in the store to rest, check out a book or visit with friends. The store also has a cafe with coffee, tea, soup, and sandwiches.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... This little kitty wonders if bookstore users get to vote on which prototype store they like best?"

George R.R. Martin's "Wild Cards" in Development at Universal Cable Productions - Variety

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the Variety site. There are our happy kitty traveler found some news about one of his favorite fantasy authors George R.R. Martin.

According to the post by Laura Prudom, Universal Cable Productions has bought the rights to George R.R. Martin's "Wild Cards". UCP will develop a new television series based on the "Wild Cards" books and stories. The "Wild Cards" volumes have been running since 1986 and total twenty-three, including one being published this month. There are "Wild Cards" books, stories, comics/graphic novels, and games. The post includes a link to Mr. Martin's original announcement about the arrangement with UCP.

Panzer says, "Just about the time the "Game of Thrones" series ends the "Wild Cards" series will begin."

I need a nap after that long trip.

HMH Debuts Kids' Digital Subscription Service - Publishers' Weekly

Halloween is coming!

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere today when he heard giggling and laughing coming from the Publishers' Weekly site. Hurrying over there, our big bad kitty boy discovered a post about publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt's newest endeavor.

According to Calvin Reid's post, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is starting a new children's subscription service with ebooks, videos and games. HMH's service will be available for younger children in the 3 years old to 7 years old age bracket. At $9.99 per month the service will be expensive when compared to the other children's subscription services which range in the $3.99 to $4.99 bracket.
