Microsoft's new foldable Android-based Surface Duo goes on sale Sept. 10 $1,399 - GeekWire

Today as Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere, the Panzermobile was suddenly shaken by oohing and aahing coming from outside. Following all the noise took our brave kitty boy to the GeekWire site. There he discovered a post about Microsoft's new Surface Duo was causing all the excitement.

Don't forget it costs $1,399.

According to the post by Taylor Soper, Microsoft has opened pre-orders for it's new Surface Duo. The phone will have dual screens which will fold closed. The two screens allow you to run two apps on the Surface at the same time. It comes with a camera and 15.5 hours of play time. You can also use it as an ereader for Kindle ebooks. The post explains all the uses and has screen shots and short promo videos of the uses.

Panzer says, "Oh yeah. It can be used as a phone too."

Walmart Launches Three Sub-$99 Tablets to Challenge the iPad - The Digital Reader

Today as Panzer was taking his afternoon nap he was rudely shaken from his kitty bed by laughing and chortling coming from the Catosphere. Hopping into the Panzermobile our brave kitty boy followed all the noise to The Digital Reader site. There with a little digging in the posts he found one about Walmart's new tablets.

$64? Really?

According to The Digital Reader site owner Nate Hoffelder, Walmart has three new tablets for sale in-store now. The tablets sell for $64, $79 and $99. All use the Android OS. There's a link in the post to a Bloomberg post about the Walmart announcement. Also included in the post is a link to the sales page at the Walmart site for the 8-inch $64 tablet.

Boyue Likebook Muses 7.8" Android eReader Released - The Digital Reader

Panzer made a quick trip to The Digital Reader site today. With a little digging in the posts our inquisitive kitty found one about the Boyue Likebook Muses ereader.

According to The Digital Reader site owner Nate Hoffelder, the Boyue Likebook Muses Android ereader is now available. It features a 7.8" e-ink touch screen, a quad-core processor and adjustable front-light, plus other features. It's available at Amazon for $329.00 (USD) and at the eReader Store for €251.98. There are links included in the post to both stores so you can read all the specifications and features.

Is Google abandoning Android? - TeleRead

The post explores the question of the possibility that Google is switching from Android to Chrome OS for the tablet. It also addresses the lack of business apps for Android. StreetLib Releases eBook App for iOS, Android, and the Web - The Digital Reader

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard oohing and aahhing. Following all the noise took him to The Digital Reader site. With a little digging around he found a post about StreetLib.

According to site owner Nate Hoffelder, ebook distributor StreetLib's new app is available for iOS and Android. The new StreetLib Read is cloud-based, so your ebooks can be read on multiple devices. The app is available through StreetLib, Google Play and iTunes. There's a link in the post to the StreetLib site.

Boldface now in OverDrive's Libby ebook app for library patrons: How to use it - TeleRead

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the TeleRead site. With a little digging our traveling kitty boy found a post about OverDrive's Libby app.

According to TeleRead site founder David Rothman, library ebook provider OverDrive has added the boldface fonts option to its Libby app. Library users will now be able to choose to read an ebook in boldface fonts. Boldface makes it easier for those with visual contrast impairments to read their library ebooks. The boldface feature is available in iOS and Android. The post includes a sample of the boldface font and instructions about how to turn on the boldface feature in your Libby app.

My ebooks are in the library.

Freda ebook app now out for Android devices: Attn. public domain lovers - TeleRead

Mmm ... Good ... I love turkey day.

Today, Panzer waddled his way into the Panzermobile for his trip into the Catosphere. He's still recuperating from Thanksgiving turkey so his trip was a short one. Our hefty kitty pilot stopped in at the TeleRead site. Luckily there was no digging necessary to find a post about the new Freda app.

According to the post by David Rothman, the new Android version of the ebook reading app Freda is now available. While the heading on the post says public domain users will love the app, the post says it will work for "small publishers" too. The post includes instructions for using various features of the app. Android users can get it free in the Google Play store and there's a direct link in the post. Freda is made by Turnipsoft and they welcome suggestions for improvements and new features. The post also includes information on the paid app Moon+.

Onyx Boox e-Note 10.3" eReader to Ship in September - The Digital Reader

It is my day off.

Today when Panzer was sweeping out the Panzermobile, he found a wadded up post stuffed behind the headrest of the passenger seat. Smoothing it out our fastidious kitty boy discovered it was a post from The Digital Reader site about the new Onyx Boox e-Note eReader.

According to site owner Nate Hoffelder's post, it's been announced that the new Onyx Boox e-Note eReader will ship this fall. The new Boox e-Note has a 10.3" display and runs Android 4.0. There's no price information available now. Although in the post Mr. Hoffelder says the eReader will ship in October, the Facebook post he links to says it will ship in September in Turkey. In addition to the Facebook link, there's also a link to an earlier post by Mr. Hoffelder about the Onyx Boox eReader.

Panzer says, "Hmm ,,, It's going from a 9.7" display to 10.3" display. That will be a nice .6" increase for easier reading."

Today, Panzer made a quick stop at The Digital Reader site. There our speedy kitty traveler found a post about Barnes and Noble.

According to the post by site owner Nate Hoffelder, Barnes and Noble has updated the Nook Android app. Now, you have the ability to search for your next reading selection by voice. There are also several other new and updated features for the app. For example you can now share your favorite highlights.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... This kitty wants to know if they will be updating the computer app for Mom's laptop, too."

Authors: Have You Blabbed or Scoped yet? - The Book Designer

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he saw some strange images flickering around outside the Panzermobile. Our big brave kitty pilot followed the ghostly sights to The Book Designer site.

According to a post there by Frances Caballo, those images Panzer was seeing in the Catosphere came from the apps Periscope and Blab. Turns out these two are new broadcast apps. You can live-stream videos of yourself and others. Periscope works on the iPhone or Android and Blab works with Chrome or the iPhone. Caballo included instructions for downloading and using the apps.

Thinking about it makes me tired.

Panzer says, "My time in between naps is already full. There's no time left to learn anything new."

Apple launches Apple Music in China - Reuters

Whew ... That's a long trip to China.

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere today when clapping and cheering interrupted the quiet. Following the trail of all the noise took him to the Reuters site.

According to a post he found there, Apple will begin offering iBooks as well as iMovies and iTunes in China this fall. Apple announced the service will be available on Adroid phones. This will be a subscription service with an additional per item charge.

Panzer says, "Hmmm ... China is a huge market for ebooks, movies and music."

Barnes and Noble Re-enters Audiobook Market

Again?

Panzer heard some mewling today and he headed out to see where it was coming from. According to Calvin Reid over at the Publisher's Weekly site, Barnes and Noble is getting into the audiobook market.

What?

Yes, all of you who are my bad boy's friends do remember right. He did tell you back in June that Barnes and Noble was leaving the audiobook market. At that time B&N announced their customers needed to backup their audiobooks before the audio files turned into random ions in the Catosphere.

Now, they've announced they've come out with a new app for Android devices. You can download the app in the Google Play store. According to Mr. Reid's post, Barnes and Noble will carry 50,000 audiobooks. The post also includes a link to Nook's site to download the app.

Panzer says, "Hmmm. I wonder how long they'll stay in the market this time?"
