BiblioBoard, PW's BookLife Launch New Library E-book Program for Self-Published Authors - Publishers Weekly

 Yesterday, Panzer told you about Publishers Weekly's plan's for the US Book Show in May. Today, our busy news-gatherer kitty found an announcement at Publishers Weekly about the company's entrance into the ebooks for libraries market.

 

How much is the fee?

According to a post at the site by the staff, Publishers Weekly's BookLife has formed a partnership with BiblioBoard to start a new program called BookLife Elite. Libraries will pay a subscription fee to get access to BookLife Elite's curated self-published ebooks. BookLife Elite is already available on OverDrive. The post includes several links to information about BookLife, BiblioBoard, authors' books in the program,  and contact persons.

 

Panzer says, "This little kitty wonders if, maybe, they're growing too fast in too many different directions at once."

Indie Authors Left in Limbo after Booktrope Closing - Booklife

Panzer made a trip to the Booklife site today. There he found a post about the end of May closing of Booktrope.

Always read the contract, kittens.

According to the post by Nicole Audrey Spector, authors who used Booktrope to publish their books have discovered problems they didn't anticipate. Booktrope's business model was to put together a book team (cover designer, book editor, book manager, etc.) and match them with an author. Now that Booktrope has closed their doors, authors find themselves contractually responsible to pay their teams a portion of their royalties for the lifetime of their book. The authors will be obligated no matter what form the book takes now, whether it is a new paperback, ebook, or whatever.

Panzer says, "Nobody was prepared for the closing."

Self Publishing Predictions for 2015

What did I get into?

Panzer has been searching high and low in the Catosphere today to see into the future. Our kitty fortuneteller wants to know what 2015 holds for indie writers and publishers. So, he did the happy kitty dance when he found a post at the Booklife site by Betty Kelly Sargent on just that subject.

Ms. Sargent interviewed some of the big names in the indie world. Names like Hugh Howey, Joel Friedlander, Thad Mcllroy, and Russell Blake. There are quotes from articles on the subject, too.

What are the big names saying? Hugh Howey says not much will happen this year. Joel Friedlander says indie publishing will grow. Thad Mcllroy talks about mobile computing. Russell Blake addresses subscription services.

Panzer says, "It's all so confusing. I wish I hadn't asked!"
