HBO Isn't Hiding the Dragons in the Latest House of the Dragon Teaser - Tor.com

 As Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere today, suddenly the Panzermobile was shaken by clapping and cheering. Following all the hullabaloo took our brave kitty boy to the Tor.com site. It didn't take any digging at all to discover all the noise was about HBO's House of the Dragon.

 

Dragons!

The post by Molly Templeton explains the newest teaser is out for House of the Dragon. This is the ten part series which takes place two hundred years before Game of Thrones. The post includes a mini-synopsis of the story, a link to click at the top of the post to view the newest teaser on YouTube, a link to the previous teaser, and the character posters. The new series premiers August 21.

 

Panzer says, "This little kitty can't wait for the series to start."

Panzer and I were out in the Catosphere today and we stopped in at the Finances Online blog. We found an infographic for Smaug the dragon in the new Hobbit movie.

Panzer found the movie trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. My bad boy got it for me ... because the movie will have a dragon! He won't watch it with me or go to the movie with me ... because it has a dragon.

I don't like dragons!

Today's post is a little off-track from our usual ebook/writing/designing/publishing focus ... unless ... you're writing/researching a heroic fantasy ebook ... or ... you just love dragons.

Panzer is not a dragon lover. I'm the one who tracked down the Fantasy Faction blog and the Dragon Classification post. The artwork and the descriptions for the dragons is spectacular; so, I decided to share it with you.

Book Review: Pride: Queen of the Black Dragons

Okay. Okay. I picked today's ebook. No cats ... but dragons!

Our book is Pride: Queen of the Black Dragons by Vickie Adair. Actually, this is part of the anthology, Seven Deadly Sins. I found each of the seven deadly sins of the title available individually as well as in the collected ebook. (Note: that's a great marketing idea!)

The sin Pride is the theme of this short story. Panzer loved that Adair gave  the dragons  human emotions, intelligence and thinking capabilities. Yes, they are fire breathing, flying, egg laying dragons, but they also have lives. While some of the dragons don't like humans, others are their protectors. This leads to a war among the dragons and an interesting outcome. (No spoilers here!)

Panzer gives the ebook four paws up (and you know how hard he is to please).

We rate it family friendly for all ages.

Book Review: Scale of a Dragon

I admit it. I picked this week's ebook.

We haven't had a good dragon story for quite a while. So, when Panzer and I came across Scale of a Dragon by  J. Michael Radcliffe, I grabbed it.

It's a little on the dark side. The main character, Callen, has a depressing life. Her mother died and she spends all of her time taking care of her wizard father, Papa. From the beginning Panzer and I  developed a total dislike for him. He is a despicable person and an awful father.

As a juxtaposition to the father daughter family of Callen and her Papa, the father daughter dragon family of Seba'an and Dahk'ra is loving and protective.

There is a war going on between the dragons and the wizards. So, of course, Callen's father wants her to go to the council and turn over the location of the dragons.

Panzer and I both agree, the end was a total surprise. We love a story where we don't see the end coming until it hits us right between the eyes!

Panzer gives Scale of a Dragon four paws up. You know it must be good, because we all know how hard he is to please especially when it comes to dragon stories!

This is a YA story with a G rating.

Book Review: An Apple A Day Keeps The Dragon Away

Okay, I admit it. I picked this week's ebook.

It's been quite a while since I've found a good dragon ebook so, when Panzer and I were over at the Amazon store and I saw Amber D. Sistla's An Apple A Day Keeps The Dragon Away, I grabbed it.

Yuri is at a dinner party with his friends, when he does a little bragging about being able to take on a dragon. Once he's started his story, he can't back down. This means a trip up the mountain to the dragon's cave; not an easy climb. When he finally makes it to the dragon's lair, things get very interesting. This is because Yuri and the dragon make an interesting bargain.

I found this to be a cute story. But you know how picky Panzer can be. He was a little let down by the last couple of paragraphs of the story. So ... it gets three paws up from him.

This is G rated and for the whole family.

Book Review: The Dragon of Skar

For this week's book review Panzer picked the ebook The Dragon of Skar by Chris Turner for me to read to him.

Boy did we have fun reading this! It had something for both of us. Panzer loved the old time pulp-fiction feel of Conan (yes, that Conan!) and his side-kick Subotai's adventure. I loved Skar the fire-breathing dragon's adventure. After Conan saved Skar, she returned the favor. I keep telling Panzer, dragons know who their friends are. 

And they know who their enemies are. Now Panzer knows why there aren't any gnomes left.

Like all the old time pulp-fiction adventures, this is a fun read. By today's standards I'd give it a G rating. There's a little blood and gore, but no more than you see on the news on television on any night.

Panzer gives the ebook four paws up and a bag of popcorn.

Book Review: The Human Addict

This week Panzer had me read the Kindle ebook  The Human Addict: A Dragon's Tale by Scott William Carter.

The whole story is told in the first person from the dragon's point of view. How fun is that? A lot.

The story begins when humans still lived in caves. This was also when unicorns, faeries, elves, dwarfs and dragons lived as well.

The whole problem begins when a dragon develops a taste for humans. And I mean a major taste for humans. A taste as in addicted to humans. The dragon does his best to control his eating habits, but he's already put the world as he knows it into a downward spiral he can't control. You see, a dragon may live for a long time, but humans don't forgive and they never forget.

The end was so sad. Panzer went through a whole box of tissues.

Panzer gives it four paws up.

Book Review: The Dragon Of The Dolomites

It must be Tuesday. Panzer and I are doing our weekly book review.

This week we read The Dragon of the Dolomites by Scott William Carter. This ebook includes one short story and a chapter from the author's novel Drawing a Dark Way. I'm sorry to say, there are no cats included in this ebook.

This is the story of Fanzini an aspiring portrait painter. Looking for work, Fanzini goes to the king's castle. The king sends Fanzini to paint the portrait of the local dragon. Fanzini does more than paint his portrait though. A lot more.

Poor dragon. You know how much I love dragons. And Fanzini is not very nice to him.  In fact he's really mean to him! That's all I'm going to say about it. You'll have to read the ebook to find out more.

I'd rate this a YA novel. Panzer gives it four paws up, but then he doesn't love firebreathing dragons like I do.

Book Review: Unicorns and Magic and Dragons and Non-Believers

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy ... Hamlet, William Shakespeare

Michelle Snyder, author of Symbology: Decoding Classic Images discusses the unicorn image at Two Ends of the Pen: The World of Symbols: The Unicorn today. In her opinion unicorns don't exist! That is so sad. It's not sad that she said unicorns don't exist. It's sad that she doesn't believe they exist.

Why, you say, is that sad? Because, if you don't believe in unicorns, you don't believe in magic. And, if you don't believe in unicorns and you don't believe in magic, then you don't believe in dragons. Everybody knows there are dragons! Without dragons what a boring world you must live in.

All I can say is: there are unicorns; there is magic; and there are dragons in my world. My life is never boring!
