Investments Led to Higher Loss at Indigo - Publishers Weekly

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard crying and wailing. Following all the noise took our brave kitty to the Publishers Weekly site. There he found a post about Indigo Books and Music.
It's just a little loss.

According to Jim Milliot, Indigo Books and Music has announced their quarterly sales and revenue figures. While Indigo's same store sales for the quarter were up over last year, revenue was down. The revenue loss was due to store closures and renovation of others. Indigo expects revenue to increase going forward.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Closing the under performing stores makes sense to this little kitty."

Indigo Reports Its Highest Quarter Revenue Ever - Publishers Weekly

Today, Panzer was just enjoying tootling around in the Catosphere when the Panzermobile was buffeted by cheering and clapping. Our brave kitty boy followed all the noise to the Publishers Weekly site. There with no digging at all he found a post about Indigo's quarterly sales and revenue figures.

According to the post by Jim Milliot, Canada's Indigo Books and Music announced the latest quarter's revenue was the highest ever. Sales revenue was up 8.2 percent compared to the same quarter in 2016. The largest sales gains were in general merchandise. Online sales were also up. The company still plans to open its first United States store in New Jersey. Company plans include an additional three or four United States stores.

They have cafes too don't they?
Panzer says, "Hmm ... This little kitty thinks Indigo Books and Music sounds a lot like Barnes and Noble without the Nook. So why is it working in Canada for them, but not here for Barnes and Noble?"

Note: This is a medium post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection.

As retail rivals retreat, Indigo Books plans five U.S. stores in next two years - Financial Post

Not your average book store?
Today Panzer's trip into the Catosphere took him to the Financial Post site. There with just a little digging he found a post about Canada's Indigo Books future plans.

According to the post at Financial Post by Hollie Shaw, Canada's Indigo Books and Music plans to open its first store in the United States. The store will be in the Mall in Short Hills, New Jersey. It doesn't appear Indigo Books will be in direct competition with Amazon or Barnes and Noble's bricks and mortar stores, because in addition to books Indigo also sells toys, baby items and other general merchandise.

Panzer says, "Umm ... This little kitty wants to know if they sell e-readers. ... And ... If they do, what kind?"

Note: This is a medium length post. Bring a cup of tea and two muffins for today's reading selection.

Indigo Eyes U.S. Expansion - Publishers Weekly

Today, Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard whispering and muttering outside the Panzermobile. Following the curious noises took our inquisitive kitty boy to the Publishers Weekly site. There he found a post about Indigo Books and Music.

According to Ed Nawotka's post, rumors abound about Indigo Books and Music's proposed expansion into the U.S. retail book sales market. Indigo bookstores are well represented in Canada under such store brand names as Indigo, Chapters, and Coles, among others. The success of the company's new concept superstores there has contributed to the rumor. Speculation is that the first U.S. Indigo bookstore will open in New Jersey in 2018. The Publishers Weekly post states, "Indigo would neither confirm nor deny" plans to expand to the U.S. So, for right now it's just a rumor.
I think they're making a big mistake.

Panzer says, "Umm ... This little kitty wants to know why Indigo would want to come to the U.S. and go head to head with Amazon. ... Haven't they heard Amazon is opening bricks and mortar bookstores in addition to the online store?"

Note: This is a shortish-medium length post. Bring a cup of tea and one and a half muffins for today's reading selection.

The Coloring Craze: Adult Coloring Books, 2015

Panzer jumped in the Panzermobile and headed out into the Catosphere today. Our big bad intrepid explorer kitty was intent on tracking down information on the newest writing trends.

Panzer has been hearing a lot about the adult coloring book market and wanted to know if the rumor was true. Searching around he ended up at the Publishers' Weekly site. It only took a little digging to find what he was looking for.

One paw print per page by us.
According to a post by Jim Milliot, it's true that adult coloring books have taken over the publishing market in 2015. Penguin, Laurence King, Indigo Books, and other publishing houses have all joined the craze. Authors/artists' books are selling in the hundreds of thousands of copies per coloring book. Some publishers are also joining in with stickers books and connect-the-dots books for adults.

Panzer says, "Ummm ... Coloring books I understand. I can make a really good paw print for Mom to color ... but ... stickers books and connect-the-dots books? It's turning into a real playground out there."

Note: This is a medium post, so a cup of tea and a muffin should do it for your reading today.
