Tariffs On Most Books from China Now 7.5% - Publishers Weekly

As Panzer was napping today he was rudely woken up by clapping and cheering coming from the Catosphere. Jumping in the Panzermobile, our kitty pilot followed all the jocularity to the Publishers Weekly site. There he discovered a post about the U.S. tariff on books from China was the cause of all the noise.

Makes no sense to this little kitty.

The post by Jim Milliot says the U.S. has lowered the tariff (tax) on books from China coming into the country to 7.5 percent from 15 percent. The new lower rate went into effect on February 14. Many U.S. publishers manufacture their books in China and then have them shipped to the U.S.

Panzer says, "The tariff on children's coloring books won't go into effect either."

Color It Dead: Coloring Book Bubble Has Burst - Dead Tree Edition

Panzer made a quick trip into the Catosphere today. Our inquisitive kitty was tootling around when he found the Dead Tree Edition site. With a little digging he discovered a post about adult coloring book sales.

According to the Dead Tree Edition post, publishers and bookstores are reporting a decline in adult coloring books sales. In 2016 the only hot topic for discussion in bookstores was adult coloring books high sales. Now, with sales in a steep decline bookstores are refusing to even order adult coloring books. During the adult coloring books' high profile sales days, even magazines entered the adult coloring books craze. Now, magazine publishers are also experiencing the same decline as book publishers and bookstores.

Maybe a kitten's coloring book, instead?

Panzer says, "Hmm ... I guess all this means it's a waste of time for this little kitty to do an adult kitty coloring book."

The Coloring Craze: Adult Coloring Books, 2015

Panzer jumped in the Panzermobile and headed out into the Catosphere today. Our big bad intrepid explorer kitty was intent on tracking down information on the newest writing trends.

Panzer has been hearing a lot about the adult coloring book market and wanted to know if the rumor was true. Searching around he ended up at the Publishers' Weekly site. It only took a little digging to find what he was looking for.

According to a post by Jim Milliot, it's true that adult coloring books have taken over the publishing market in 2015. Penguin, Laurence King, Indigo Books, and other publishing houses have all joined the craze. Authors/artists' books are selling in the hundreds of thousands of copies per coloring book. Some publishers are also joining in with stickers books and connect-the-dots books for adults.

Panzer says, "Ummm ... Coloring books I understand. I can make a really good paw print for Mom to color ... but ... stickers books and connect-the-dots books? It's turning into a real playground out there."
