Color It Dead: Coloring Book Bubble Has Burst - Dead Tree Edition

Panzer made a quick trip into the Catosphere today. Our inquisitive kitty was tootling around when he found the Dead Tree Edition site. With a little digging he discovered a post about adult coloring book sales.
wa
According to the Dead Tree Edition post, publishers and bookstores are reporting a decline in adult coloring books sales. In 2016 the only hot topic for discussion in bookstores was adult coloring books high sales. Now, with sales in a steep decline bookstores are refusing to even order adult coloring books. During the adult coloring books' high profile sales days, even magazines entered the adult coloring books craze. Now, magazine publishers are also experiencing the same decline as book publishers and bookstores.
Maybe a kitten's coloring book, instead?

Panzer says, "Hmm ... I guess all this means it's a waste of time for this little kitty to do an adult kitty coloring book."

Note: This is long post. Bring a thermos of tea, a half dozen muffins and three chocolate chip cookies (biscuits) for today's reading selection.

Sales at Barnes and Noble Down Over 6% in Q1 - PW (Publishers' Weekly)

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Publishers' Weekly site. There our kitty pilot discovered a post about Barnes and Noble's quarterly sales report.

It's simple. No books = No sales.
According to the post by Jim Milliot, Barnes and Noble's sales for the first quarter are reportedly down 6.6 percent over the same time period last year. The retail sales loss is blamed on lower overall book sales and lower adult coloring book sales in particular. According to CEO Len Riggio, there was a lack of inventory at the stores which is being rectified.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... A book store without books ... What could go wrong? ... No sales? ... This kitty thinks so."

Note: This is a medium length post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection.

The Long Game ... of Thrones - George R.R. Martin

Don't wake me until tomorrow.
Panzer spent today's trip into the Catosphere collecting news about George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones. Our busy kitty reporter found three news posts for all Game of Thrones addicts like him.

Panzer's first stop was at George R.R. Martin's Not A Blog site. Yesterday, Monday, August 1, was the 20 year anniversary of the first publication of his Game of Thrones book. His publisher is putting out a new edition of the original Game of Thrones. The new edition will include illustrations.

Panzer's next stop was at The Hollywood Reporter site. There he found a post titled HBO Confirms "Game of Thrones" Will End With Season 8. The post by Lesley Goldberg says that HBO has not released any information except the end of the Game of Thrones series after season 8.

Panzer's final stop was at the GalleyCAT site. A little digging around and he found a post titled HBO's Game of Thrones Coloring Book. According to Dianna Dilworth, HBO has commissioned an adult coloring book containing 35 illustration from the television series.

Panzer says, "I'm going to take a long, long nap"

Note: These posts combined are very l-o-n-g. Bring a thermos of tea and a dozen muffins for today's reading selections.

Coloring Books For Adults Stay Hot - Publishers' Weekly

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere this afternoon took him to the Publishers' Weekly site. There our free-roaming kitty found a post about adult coloring books.

According to the post by Jim Milliot, all of the print book sales were up by 12 percent from January 2016 through June 2016 over the same period in 2015. The increase in sales was due largely because of adult coloring book sales. The crafts and hobbies category was up by 133 percent because of adult coloring books. There is more information in the post about other categories of books with both increased and decreased sales figures for the time period.
Mom! Where are your colored pencils?

Panzer says, "Hmmm ,,, I'd buy a coloring book with adult girl kitties to color."

Note: This is a short-medium post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for your reading today.

A Newbie's Guide to Publishing: Chasing Publishing Trends

Panzer was woken up from his after dinner nap by laughing and guffawing coming from the Catosphere. Hopping into the Panzermobile our kitty boy followed all the noise to J.A. Konrath's blog.

There he found a post about adult coloring books. Reading the post, it didn't take long and he fell out of the pilot's seat and was rolling on the floor laughing.

Panzer says, "Tee hee hee!"

Note: This is a short post. DO NOT drink tea while you are reading today's selection. You don't want to get your keyboard wet.

The King Coloring Books - PW (Publishers Weekly)

Panzer made a short trip into the Catosphere today. Our kitty traveler went to the Publishers' Weekly site. With just a little digging he found a post about the adult coloring book market.

As Panzer told you in February, adult coloring books are a huge market. The post in PW by Jim Milliot consists of an interview with Laurence King founder of U.K. publisher Laurence King Publishing. According to Mr. King his publishing company had a 300 percent increase in revenue in 2015 compared to 2014. How did the company manage to do that? Adult coloring books. In 2013 LKP published their first adult coloring book in Europe. Sales were brisk there, but when the books hit the U.S. market they took off. And in 2015 half of LKP's revenue came from the U.S.
Maybe there is a cat market.

Panzer says, "I'm still don't understand it, but I'm working on a coloring book for adult cats."

Note: This is a l-o-n-g post. You'll need a cup of tea and two muffins for your reading.

Toy Fair 2016: The Adult Publishing Coloring Craze Hits the Toy Industry - PW (Publishers' Weekly)

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard laughing and giggling. Our kitty traveler followed all the frivolity to the Publishers' Weekly site. A little digging around and he found an interesting post about adult coloring books. Panzer told you about the adult coloring book craze back in November of last year.

I can do that.
According to a post by Karen Raugust, February 13-16 at the International Toy Fair in New York has been an adult playground. One of the main focuses has been adult coloring books, puzzles, posters, and dot to dot books. So, it's not surprising that the newest craze is adult dot to dot books that you color after you've connected the dots.

Panzer says, "Hmm. Maybe I need to consider doing a coloring book for adult cats."

Note: This is a l-o-n-g post. You'll need a cup of tea and two muffins while you read it. If you plan to read the original post as well, you'll need a thermos of tea and three muffins.
