Authors Guild Looks at Why Author Incomes Are in Decline - Publishers Weekly

Panzer's last stop today was at the Publishers Weekly site. There he discovered a post about authors' income.

 

According to the post, the Authors Guild commissioned a study to determine why authors income is declining. The study found among other factors that not as many people buy books anymore. The post includes links to other information.

 

Panzer says, "This little kitty wonders if anybody looked at the cost of traditionally published books as a factor. They cost a lot of kitty treats."

Indigo's Q3 Earnings Hit by Postal Strike - Publishers Weekly

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard crying and gnashing of teeth. Following all the noise took our brave kitty boy to the Publishers Weekly site. There our brave kitty boy found a post about Indigo Books and Music.

According to the post by Ed Nawotka, the Canada Post strike hit Indigo Books and Music's third quarter hard. The strike impacted the company's deliveries and helped push revenue down 1.7 percent. Increased employee wages and store improvements also contributed to the revenue decline. On a brighter note CEO Heather Reisman said the company opened their first U.S. store and it was well received.

Inquiring kitties want to know.

Panzer says, "This little kitty is wondering when the second U.S. store will open."

E-book Sales Fell 10% in 2017 - Publishers Weekly

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the Publishers Weekly (PW) site. With a little digging around our inquisitive kitty boy found a post about 2017 ebook sales figures.

According to Jim Milliot, Pub Track Digital reports sales figures for ebooks published by traditional publishers fell 10 percent in 2017 compared to figures from 2016. Ebook sales declined in all segments except adult nonfiction. Amazon's sales figures aren't included in Pub Track Digital's report.

Indie publishing is the way to go.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Makes this little kitty glad Mom's ebooks aren't published by a traditional publisher."

Print is Doing So Great at Surviving eBooks That Print Sales Fell 3% in Canada in 2017 - The Digital Reader

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to The Digital Reader site. There our traveling kitty pilot found a post about Canadian print book sales in 2017.

According to The Digital Reader site owner Nate Hoffelder, BookNet Canada just released the 2017 print book sales report. Based on BookNet Canada's collected data print book sales are down by 3 percent compared to 2016. While non-fiction and fiction were both down, juvenile books were up. There's a link at the end of the post to the BookNet Canada site for more information on the sales report.

Hmm ... I can do children's books.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... If juvenile print book sales are up, maybe this little kitty needs to start working on some juvenile books."

Color It Dead: Coloring Book Bubble Has Burst - Dead Tree Edition

Panzer made a quick trip into the Catosphere today. Our inquisitive kitty was tootling around when he found the Dead Tree Edition site. With a little digging he discovered a post about adult coloring book sales.

According to the Dead Tree Edition post, publishers and bookstores are reporting a decline in adult coloring books sales. In 2016 the only hot topic for discussion in bookstores was adult coloring books high sales. Now, with sales in a steep decline bookstores are refusing to even order adult coloring books. During the adult coloring books' high profile sales days, even magazines entered the adult coloring books craze. Now, magazine publishers are also experiencing the same decline as book publishers and bookstores.

Maybe a kitten's coloring book, instead?

Panzer says, "Hmm ... I guess all this means it's a waste of time for this little kitty to do an adult kitty coloring book."
