Amazon's new CEO, Andy Jassy, is a music-loving, wing-eating, hard-charging disciple of Jeff Bezos - GeekWire

Today Panzer was digging around in the glove box of the Panzermobile when he found a wadded up post. Flattening it out, our fastidious kitty boy discovered it was a GeekWire post about Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos' soon to-be CEO replacement Andy Jassy. In case you haven't heard, Jeff Bezos is moving from chief executive officer to executive chairman.

 

He's been there a long time.

According to GeekWire's Todd Bishop, Amazon's incoming CEO Andy Jassy is a multifaceted individual. He's a passionate music enthusiast. He's held employee chicken wing eating contests. He's been with Amazon almost since the beginning. And finally, he's described by colleagues as a passionate, hard-driving, results-oriented leader. There are several links included in the post to previous GeekWire posts.

 

Panzer says, "Sounds like there won't be any changes at Amazon."

Amazon hires 248,500 people in Q3 as Jeff Bezos challenges large employers to raise minimum wage - GeekWire

 Panzer decided to make a stop at the GeekWire site today. With a little digging in the posts there, our inquisitive kitty found one about Amazon.

 

1.13 million?

According to Taylor Soper's post, Amazon has 1.13 million employees worldwide. 400,000 of those employees were hired this year. Now Amazon plans to hire another 100,000 seasonal workers for the company's distribution centers. Amazon pays its employees a minimum wage of $15.00 per hour and CEO Jeff Bezos challenged other large employers to raise their minimum hourly wage as well. Jeff Bezos announces Amazon's 'Climate Pledge', promising to cut emissions and pushing other companies to follow suit - GeekWire

Panzer was washing the Panzermobile windshield (windscreen) when he discovered a post shoved under the wiper blade. Smoothing it out, our traveling kitty pilot discovered it was a GeekWire post about Amazon and the climate crisis.

Electric vans! Wind farms! Solar farms!

According to Lisa Shiffler's post, on September 19 Jeff Bezos announced Amazon will be carbon neutral within 21 years. The company is purchasing 100,000 electric delivery vans. The vans will begin deliveries in 2021. The company plans to get 80 percent of it's energy from renewable sources within 5 years. Amazon is already building wind farms and solar power farms. The post includes a lot more information on Amazon's future plans to address the climate crisis. The post also includes links to the Paris Agreement and other sites.

Birthplace of Amazon Up For Sale For $1.5 Million - The Digital Reader

Today as Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere he decided to stop in at The Digital Reader site. With a little digging he found a post about Amazon's birthplace.

According to The Digital Reader site owner Nate Hoffelder, the home Amazon founder Jeff Bezos lived in while he was starting the company is for sale. The Amazon founder never owned the home. He did, however, rent it for a short time and used the garage to start the company. This could technically make the garage the first Amazon headquarters. The post quotes from a newspaper article (post) about the home and its history. There's also a link included in the post to the newspaper to read more of the story.

Trump wants to go after Amazon - Business Insider

Panzer was shaken out of his cat bed by all the booing and hissing coming from the Catosphere. Jumping into the Panzermobile our brave pilot headed into the Catosphere to find out what all the noise was about. Following the hullabaloo took him to the Business Insider site where he discovered a post about Amazon and President Trump's threat to attack the company.

According to the post by Bob Bryan who quotes from an Axios post,  President Trump is unhappy with Amazon and because of that is threatening repercussions for the company. He says Amazon is responsible for problems in the business real estate marketplace because small companies are closing. He also blames the company for problems with the U.S. Postal Service. The post does point out that President Trump has a long-standing antagonism toward Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. Mr. Bezos is the owner of The Washington Post newspaper which has published articles unflattering of President Trump.

Now, back to the important stuff.

Jeff Bezos has advice for the news business: 'Ask people to pay. They will pay' - CNBC

Panzer was doing his weekly cleaning in the Panzermobile today when he found a wadded up post between the seats. Spreading it out flat on the floor, our fastidious kitty discovered it was a post from the CNBC site about Jeff Bezos. (In case you don't know who Jeff Bezos is, he's the founder of Amazon.)

Not what you want. What they want.

According to Matt Rosoff's post, Jeff Bezos gave a presentation at the Future of Newspapers conference. Mr. Bezos was at the conference because he bought The Washington Post newspaper in 2013 and turned it profitable by 2016. At the conference he gave his views on how newspapers need to adjust to the current reading public climate. One of his main points dealt with the fact he treats the newspaper like Amazon. In both instances, he always puts the customer/reader first. He also says, don't worry about the advertisers. In the end they don't pay the bills, the reader does. The post contains several other points of interest in creating a profitable newspaper.

Amazon Executives Are "Pleased" With Results of Retail Bookstores So Far - Fortune

More bookstores, huh?

Panzer was sweeping out the Panzermobile when he found a post under the passenger seat. Smoothing out the post, our kitty cleaner discovered it was from the Fortune site and about Amazon bookstores.

According to the post by Aaron Pressman, head of Amazon Web Services Andy Jassy participated in the Wall Street Journal Live conference on Tuesday. Jassy said Amazon's bricks and mortar bookstore experiment is going well and they are "pleased" with it so far. This is a followup to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' statement at Amazon's annual meeting that the company will be opening more bookstores.

Panzer says, "I wish somebody would say how many bricks and mortar stores they'll be opening."

Bezos Confirms Plans for More Amazon Stores - PW (Publishers' Weekly)

Panzer was jolted from his after dinner nap by the sounds of clapping hands coming from the Catosphere. Our sleepy kitty pilot pulled himself into the pilot's seat in the Panzermobile. Following all the noise took him to the Publishers' Weekly site.

According to a post there by Jim Milliot, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has confirmed the rumors that Amazon will be opening more brick and mortar stores. Mr. Bezoa did not, however, say how many new stores or where they'll be located. He made the announcement at Amazon's annual shareholders meeting. The post includes a link to a post at The Seattle Times newspaper site where you'll find more news from the annual meeting.

Back to sleep for me now.

Panzer says, "Sales at the Seattle store must be good, if he's planning more stores than just the new one in California."

Hmm ... A new Kindle.

Panzer headed over to the engadget site today. There our intrepid kitty traveler found a small post with some interesting information about Amazon.

According to the post by Nathan Ingraham, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced yesterday that the company will be releasing a new Kindle next week.

Panzer says, "I wish there was more to report; but he announced it in a tweet on Twitter. We'll just have to wait until next week."

Can you believe it? Just a few books.

Panzer made a quick trip into the Catosphere today. Our big bad kitty stopped in at the New York Post site to find news for you today.

According to a post by James Covert, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is now the third-richest man in the United States. Mr. Bezos is now worth $55 billion. His 20 percent ownership in Amazon stock increased in value after Amazon reported their third quarter profit of $79 million on Thursday.

Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos' Rocket Company, to Launch From Florida - The New York Times

My rocket is faster than yours.

Today Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere looking for something interesting to report on. Our inquisitive kitty boy stopped in at the New York Times site. It took a lot of digging, but he found a post about Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his rocket company. If you're like Panzer, you didn't know Mr. Bezos had a rocket company or was looking for a launch site.

According to the post by Kenneth Chang, Mr. Bezos' rocket company Blue Origin will have a factory in Florida near their new launch site at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Even though Mr. Bezos made the announcement personally, he didn't elaborate on what the rockets will be carrying.

The Amazon debate: Amazon Critic vs Self-publishing Rock Star

Not a hiss in the bunch.

Panzer was going to stop in at Joe Konrath's blog today, but he didn't make it that far.  He made a detour to the Salon site instead. Joe Konrath and Rob Spillman were having an online debate there about Amazon.

The online debate consists of Konrath and Spillman's back and forth emails about whether Amazon is truly the evil ebook publishing empire. It delves into Jeff Bezos' admitted admiration of Sam Walton's business style and the similarities between Amazon and Walmart.

Panzer says, "These two humans actually agree that they mostly agree. Who would have believed that's possible with these two."

Finally, a human with a sense of humor.

Panzer heard about an interesting post over at the Boston Globe site. He hopped right in the Panzermobile and took a trip over there.

My bad kitty boy reporter discovered somebody like himself. Somebody who doesn't hate Jeff Bezos for starting, and now being the head, of Amazon.

It's true!

In his post Alex Beam says he not only doesn't hate Mr. Bezos, he believes Amazon has done great things for customers (readers) and writers. Mr. Beam's post also addresses the proposition that while Amazon has changed the whole publishing landscape, the change is for the better.

And, guess what ...

Amazon is not out to dominate the world.

Amazon-Hachette Dispute Is Yesterday's War

Are you two listening?

Panzer was out in the Catosphere today trying to avoid the Amazon-Hachette dispute.

No such luck!

What my bad kitty did find is a post by Leonid Bershidsky at the Bloomberg View site with an argument that could put an end to the dispute. Mr. Bershidsky points out that in his opinion buying ebooks from the Amazon store for your Kindle is obsolete.

What?

The Kindle obsolete?

The Amazon ebook obsolete?

Why?

Because more people are reading ebooks on their smartphones and tablets.

So, according to Mr. Bershidsky, the Amazon-Hachette dispute (war) is pointless.

Panzer says, Are you listening Mr. Bezos? How about you Mr. Pietsch? It's a pointless fight."

Hachette's Pietsch Responds To Amazon's Readers Emails

Mine! Now get out of there!

Panzer is back home after a trip to Publishers Weekly's site in the Catosphere.

My bad boy found a post there about Amazon's response to Douglas Preston's New York Times advertisement asking people who support him to email Amazon's Jeff Bezos. In response, Amazon setup an online site and asked people who support Amazon to email Hachette CEO Michael Pietsch.

So ...

Mr. Pietsch sent letters to the supporters of Amazon who have been emailing him.

Panzer says, "Would you guys get out of my litter box? It's so full I can't even get in to use it."
