Do they have a crystal ball to foretell the future?

As Panzer was headed home he decided to make a stop at the Publishers Daily site. There he found a post about the problems of libraries caused by the shutdown of wholesaler Baker and Taylor.

 

According to Jim Milliot and Nathalie op de Beeck's post, with the disappearance of Baker and Taylor libraries need to find new book wholesales to stock their shelves. The post includes links to other information about Baker and Taylor's closure and the libraries search efforts.

 

Panzer says, "Guess who already jumped into library book wholesaling back in June?"

NaNoWriMo shut down after AI, content moderation scandals - TechCrunch

Haven't done it for a while. It wasn't fun anymore.

Panzer was shaken from his kitty nap by loud noises coming from the Catosphere. Hopping into the Panzermobile, our brave kitty boy followed all the hoopla to the TechCrunch site. There he discovered a post that explained all the angst.

 

According to a post by Amanda Silberling, NaNoWriMo has announced it is shutting down. The post includes a link to a video about the closure.

 

Panzer says, "This little kitty quit doing it a few years ago."

CEO Jassy's Letter to Shareholders - About Amazon News

Now for a little nap.

Panzer's last stop for today is at the Amazon News site. There he found CEO Andy Jassy annual letter to company shareholder.

 

The letter explains how the company has managed other economic downturns and how it is managing the current one. It describes the necessity for employee layoffs and division closures.

Earlier tonight Panzer told you about the closure of the international book retailer Book Depository. Now in his most recent travels in the Catosphere he stopped at The Rap Sheet site. There he discovered Mystery Scene magazine is closing down.

J. Kingston Pierce's post begins with a history of Mystery Scene and progresses into an interview with editor-in-chief Kate Stine. The magazine published it's last issue in 2022.

Book Depository Is Closing - Book Depository

Part of Amazon's cost cutting plan.

Today Panzer learned Amazon is closing international book retailer Book Depository.

According to the notice at the Book Depository site, they will close on April 26. 

Panzer says, "The Q&A at the site answers questions about both current and past book orders and the closing."

Henry Holt Lays Off Metropolitan Books Staff - Publishers Weekly

This morning Panzer made a quick stop at the Publishers Weekly site. There he found a post about Metropolitan Books demise.

 

No reason why?

According to Jim Milliot's post, Henry Holt has laid off the staff at Metropolitan books. Henry Holt gave no information about the closure.

 

Panzer says, "I have nothing to say about this."
