Scotland: Shortlist Announced for the Highlan Book Prize; Publishing Scotland Seeks Applications for Translation Fund - Publishing Perspectives

 Panzer's first stop today was at the Publishing Perspectives site.

 

There he found the announcement of the shortlist for the Highland Book Prize. The post has the shortlisted authors and their works. Also included is information about the Translation Fund.

 

Panzer says, "This is an annual Prize."

Free to Listen to Historical Romance Audiobook: A Spinster at the Court

I'm a cat. I get bored sometimes.

Panzer wanted a change of pace today, so he found this romance on the Literary Sound channel.

 

The medieval romance A Spinster at the Highland Court is set in Scotland. It's written by Celeste Barclay and 7 hours 10 minutes long.

Scotland's Highland Book Prize Names Sally Huband It's Winner - Publishing Perspectives

It's hard to keep track of all the prizes and awards.

Panzer made a stop at the Publishing Perspectives site.

 

There our traveling kitty boy found Porter Anderson's post about the 2023 winner of Scotland's Highland Book Prize. The post explains the criteria for the prize and who the supporters of it are. It also includes links to information about the winner, the prize and the supporters.

 

Panzer says, "This little kitty doesn't remember ever hearing about this prize before."

Bloody Scotland, Scotland's International Crime Writing Festival, Events Schedule

Today, Panzer went to the Bloody Scotland site and discovered the events schedule for the upcoming International Crime Writing Festival has been announced. The conference is September 15 - 18.

This is my excited.look.

At the Event Schedule page clicking on an event's title will take you to an information page. There you will find the cost to attend and a purchase button. In addition to the individual event tickets, there is a Digital Pass also available. The Pass gives online access to forty of the events. Not all events are available with the Pass so it's important to check the list of what the Pass covers. The online events covered by the Pass are only available for viewing online until October 6.

 

Panzer says, "With all the authors and their stories about writing the Festival is always so much fun."

 

Note: Since the schedule covers the events for the entire festival, you'll need to decide what drinks and food to bring for your reading today.

McIlvanney Prize Entry - Bloody Scotland Site

Always read the rules.

Today, when Panzer was cleaning the seats in the Panzermobile, he found a wadded up post under a seat cushion. Flattening it out, our fastidious kitty discovered it was a post about the Bloody Scotland's McIlvanney Prize.

 

If you're interested in entering and meet the criteria, the deadline is April 8. You need to hurry and read the post about the entry rules

John O'Groats Book Festival to return with online programme - John O'Groats Journal

 Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere today when he stopped in at the John O'Groats Journal site. With just a little digging our inquisitive kitty boy found a post about the John O'Groats Book Festival.

 

Starts in ten days. I'm  ready.

According to the post by Alan Hendry, the John O'Groats Book Festival will be online this year. The Book Festival will begin April 24 and run for three weeks. It will feature such Scottish authors as Freeland Barbour, Gillian Galbraith, Barbara Henderson, James Hunter, as well as several others. The post does say the author presentations will be recorded ahead of the Book Festival. More information about the Festival and how to register will be posted to the Book Festival's Twitter account and Facebook page. To follow, both icons are at the top of the post.

 

Panzer says, "Looks like all the conferences are still going to be online again this year."

Granite Noir 2021 Conference - Aberdeen Performing Arts

This will be a long weekend

As soon as Panzer entered the Catosphere today, the Panzermobile was shaken from the outside by clapping and cheering. Following all the joyful noise took our illustrious kitty boy to the Aberdeen Performing Arts site. There he found a notice about a free crime fiction conference that's online this year. 

 

Granite Noir 2021 starts February 19 (Friday) and continues through February 21 (Sunday). If you go to the site, there's an explanation about Granite Noir and below that is a list of the presentations with descriptions and times. According to the list, crime fiction writers Ian Rankin, D.V. Bishop, Val McDermid, Jo Nesbo and others will be in attendance.

 

It says you don't have to register, just go to the site at the appropriate time and watch each presentation. No where does it say the presentations will be recorded for later viewing, so it appears you must be there to watch it on time. 

Note: Remember the listed presentation times are UK/Scotland time, so you'll need to convert to your time.

Bloody Scotland Now on YouTube

We told you about this year's online Bloody Scotland Writers Festival about a week ago. If you missed all or part of it, the organizers now have most of the festival presentations edited and up on YouTube.

 

Note: Be prepared. This was a three day conference. Some of the presentations are long so you may want to schedule watching it over the coming weekend. Don't wait too long though, because it says at the site it will only be available until October 30.

Publishing Scotland's New Author International Travel Fund Hits the Road - Publishing Perspectives

Today, Panzer made a stop at the Publishing Perspectives site. With no digging at all our speedy little kitty boy found a post about Scottish Books International's new Author International Travel Fund.

According to Porter Anderson's post at Publishing Perspectives, one year old Scottish Books International has begun dispensing grants from the Author International Travel Fund. The fund gives Scottish authors grants to travel  internationally to festivals and events. This year 18 authors received grants to travel and promote their work. All the grant recipients, the amounts of the grants, and the festivals/events they attended are included in the post.

I guess I could just walk across a border.

Panzer says, "This little kitty wishes he could get a grant to travel internationally to promote his work. ... Oh. Wait. ... I hate flying. So no travel by airplane. ... I hate water. So no travel by ship. ... And ... I'm a cat. So I can't get a passport. ... So ... No international traveling for me."

Freight authors agast as former publisher sets up new imprint - The Guardian

17 Day Until Christmas

Panzer had barely made it into the Catosphere when the Panzermobile was struck by a sound torpedo of crying and screaming. Following the noise trail took our brave kitty pilot to The Guardian site. There he found a post about Scotland's Freight Books.

The post by Alison Flood documents the demise of Freight Books. According to the post, the partnership between Adrian Searle and Davindor Samrai was dissolved in April when Mr. Searle left the company. By September the company was in financial straits and unable to pay its creditors, including authors. The company is currently shutdown and in liquidation. It appears the authors will never be paid. While authors are dealing with the realization they won't receive their royalties, former partner Adrian Searle opened another publishing company the day after the liquidation was announced.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... It just doesn't make sense to this little kitty."
