Amazon to host another COVID-19 vaccine clinic at its Seattle HQ campus on Sunday - GeekWire

 Here's news about another Amazon pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinic Panzer found over at the GeekWire site. If you live in the Seattle Washington area, this is a chance to get your vaccination this coming Sunday, January 31.

 

According to Kurt Schlosser, Amazon will again host the pop-up vaccination clinic in the company headquarters with Virginia Mason volunteers. The post includes a link to the Washington state eligibility site and a link to the Virginia Mason's wait list.

 

Don't wait! Only 2,000.

Seattle-area booksellers, moved by community support During coronovirus shutdown, say 'indie bookstores will thrive again' - The Seattle Times

Today Panzer decided to make his trip in the Catosphere closer to home (he lives in Washington state), so he stopped in at The Seattle Times Newspaper site. (The city of Seattle is located in Washington state.) With just a little digging in the posts, our inquisitive kitty boy found one about how indie bookstores are doing in the Seattle-area (Washington) with the coronavirus pandemic state-ordered shutdown.

According to the post by Moira Macdonald, Seattle-area (Seattle, Redmond and Mercer Island) independent bookstores are finding creative ways to continue to sell books. Bookstores are adding shopping carts to their websites so buyers can order their books online. Books are then either mailed to the buyer or can be picked up curbside outside the bookstore.  People are also calling in their book orders for mail or pickup. Book buyers are buying from their neighborhood indie bookstores to help keep them from closing permanently.

Don't worry. They'll be open soon.

Panzer says, "The neighborhood bookstore is where humans can go and hold a book in their hands. That's important to a lot of humans."

Seattle's Socialist City Councilmember introduces new 'Amazon Tax' to raise $300M/year for affordable public housing - GeekWire

Panzer made a quick stop at the GeekWire site today. There he found a post about a Seattle (Washington) City Council member who wants to put an employee tax on Amazon.

Amazon HQ could move.

According to Monica Nickelsburg's post, a Seattle, Washington, socialist city Councilmember Kshama Sawant is gathering support for her proposed 'Tax Amazon' campaign. Councilmember Kshama Sawant proposes a 1.7 percent tax on the payrolls of 'big business' companies located in Seattle. Since Amazon is headquartered in Seattle, she calls it the 'Tax Amazon' campaign. Councilmember Sawant estimates her plan would collect $300 Million per year. Of that money, 75 percent would go to build 8,000 homes over ten years.The other 25 percent would go to change 47,000 homes from natural gas to electric heat. Sawant's plan conflicts with a tax plan King County (where Seattle is located), city of Seattle's mayor and Amazon (as well as other big businesses) are working on. Panzer says, "Hmm ... She plans to collect $300 million a year ... She plans 8,000 homes over 10 years. ...  How about some apartment buildings instead? ... Go up faster. ... People get homes faster. ... Bet they're cheaper than a bunch of individual homes."

Amazon to open new 'themed' pop-up store at Seattle HQ in latest physical retail expansion - GeekWire

Today as Panzer was eating his breakfast his food dish began to dance across the floor. Listening to the vibrating coming through the floor, our kitty boy discovered it was clapping coming from the Catosphere. Jumping in the Panzermobile, he followed all the noise to the the GeekWire site. With just a tiny bit of digging in the posts, he found one about Amazon's newest store was causing all the hoopla.

Interesting.

According to Nat Levy, Amazon is quietly planning to open a new pop-up store in Seattle, Washington. A photo in the post shows the vacant shop next to the Seattle Amazon 4-star store has window covering that reads, "Opening Soon Amazon pop-up." When queried by GeekWire Amazon gave no opening date. Amazon does say, however, that the company is hiring for the store. The post has numbers for Amazon's different types of retail outlets, too. There are links included in the post for more information about Amazon's different bricks and mortar stores and retailing.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... This little kitty thinks, if Amazon is hiring for the store now, they'll be opening pretty soon."

Amazon surpasses Microsoft in number of Seattle region employees amid big growth plans across US - GeekWire

Today as Panzer entered the Catosphere he heard clapping and cheering outside. Following all the jocularity took our brave kitty boy to the GeekWire site. There with no digging at all he discovered a post about Amazon's employment plans.

MeWOW! 30,000 jobs!

According to GeekWire's Civic Editor Monica Nickelsburg, Amazon announced they now have 53,500 employees in the Seattle (Washington) area, 650,000 globally, and employee expansion plans. On September 17 the company is holding a "Career Day" with plans to hire 30,000 new employees. The "Career Day" will be held in Seattle as well as five other cities.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... According to the post, some of the jobs require specific talents."

Exclusive: Amazon moving thousands of employees out of Seattle, relocating key division to nearby city - GeekWire

Panzer was shaken from his kitty bed by crying and screaming and gnashing of teeth. Following the horrific noise took our brave kitty boy to the GeekWire site. With no digging at all in the posts there he discovered one about Amazon.

According to Monica Nickelsburg, in an email to employees Amazon announced yesterday the company would be moving it's worldwide operations division from Seattle, Washington. The move is to Bellevue, Washington, and is scheduled to begin this month. The company already has an office located in Bellevue and has also leased additional office space for the move. In addition to information in the GeekWire post about the move, there's also speculation about the reasons behind it too.

Seattle did want the head tax.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Well ... Seattle will still have the main headquarters. ... At least for a while longer."

The Spheres Blossom at Amazon's Urban HQ in Seattle - Press Release

Panzer made another trip into the Catosphere today and went to the Amazon News Room site. With just a little digging our inquisitive kitty found a post about Amazon's new addition The Spheres to the main headquarters (HQ).

According to the press release, The Sphere's have opened in Seattle, Washington. Amazon says the correct name for the newest addition to the headquarters (HQ) campus is The Spheres. There are three interconnected cement and glass spheres in the complex. The Spheres contain tree houses, walking paths, waterfalls, rivers, and 40,000 plants, flowers, and trees. To conserve energy they have radiant floor heating. The post is divided into sections about The Spheres, Amazon, the University of Washington, and Amazon's conservation efforts. There are links for more information included in the various sections.
