Update on COVID-19 Testing - The Amazon Blog

Today, Panzer made a trip to The Amazon Blog site.  With a little digging in the posts our inquisitive kitty boy found one about Amazon's response to Covid-19 testing in the company's workplaces.

That's not a lot.

According to the blog post, Amazon is conducting Covid-19 tests of company employees not just at U.S. fulfillment centers, but at the company's Whole Foods Markets as well. Employees have been tested multiple times in case there are asymtomatic workers. Of those employees tested there have been 19,816 positive tests. Employees with positive test results are placed on paid quarantine until they recover. The post includes a link to a chart with all the U.S. states and the number of positive Covid-19 employee cases per 1,000 employees in that state.

Panzer says, "If you go all the way to the bottom of the chart linked in the post, there is some information about the numbers on the chart."

Note: This is a medium length post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading.

Amazon is reopening its French warehouses after COVID-19 labor dispute - The Verge

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to The Verge site. There our traveling kitty pilot found a post about Amazon's French warehouses. Last week Panzer told you about Amazon closing the company's French fulfillment centers in April.

All humans want is more money.
According The Verge's Chaim Gartenberg's post, Amazon is reopening the company's six French warehouses. The company will open the fulfillment centers slowly. There will be staggered shifts for the employees and increased pay.

Panzer says, "Well ... Now people there will get their orders faster, since Amazon won't be shipping from fulfillment centers outside France anymore."

Note: This is a long-short length post. Bring a cup of tea for your reading selection today.

Amazon's Showdown in France Tests Its Ability to Sidestep Labor - The New York Times

Today as Panzer was cleaning out the Panzermobile, he found a post wadded up under the passenger seat. Flattening it out, our fastidious kitty discovered it was a post from The New York Times site about Amazon's labor problems in France.

I have my priorities.
The post by Liz Alderman and Adam Satariano documents problems with the French warehouse workers labor union. The union is not happy with Amazon's response to workers' health protection in the company's French fulfillment centers. The union took Amazon to court and won a court order that Amazon must stop delivering 'nonessential' items during the pandemic. In response Amazon closed their French fulfillment centers. Amazon is shipping orders from warehouses in other countries to French customers. There are more issues in the case and Amazon has appealed to the French Supreme Court.

Panzer says, "Umm ... Who decides what is nonessential? What's essential to the neighbor's dog wouldn't be essential to me. So, who decides? Me or the dog?"

This is a humongous post. Bring a thermos of tea and six muffins for today's reading selection.

Amazon Building Collapse: 2 Reported Dead, Officials Say - Balitmore Patch

Panzer was cleaning out the Panzermobile when he heard yelling and crying coming from the Catosphere. Hopping into the pilot's seat, our brave kitty boy headed out. Following the noise took him to the Baltimore Patch site. There he discovered a post about an accident at an Amazon building in Baltimore, Maryland.

I hate storms with the wind and rain.
According to the Baltimore Patch's Elizabeth Janney, during a severe store in Baltimore last night an Amazon fulfillment center suffered significant damage. The wind and rain in the storm caused a wall in the fulfillment center to collapse. Two sub-contract workers were killed. Due to the rain and debris numerous packages were destroyed. There are photos in the post of the storm damage. The post also includes information about other businesses impacted by the storm.

Panzer says, "Of course, the fulfillment center is closed."

Note: This is a long post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection.

Amazon warehouse envoys rally to tweet upbeat comments about working conditions - The Seattle Times

Panzer took an unexpected trip into the Catosphere today. He was shaken from his afternoon nap by strange sounds coming from the Catosphere. Hopping into the Panzermobile and following all the noise took our sleepy kitty to The Seattle Times newspaper site. After a little digging around in the posts our kitty reporter found one about Amazon.

According to Matt Day, Amazon now has more than a dozen "Amazon FC Ambassadors" tweeting on Twitter about how great the work environment in the warehouses is. The "FC" in their title stands for "Fulfillment Center" which is Amazon's name for its warehouses. The post says the Ambassadors don't have anything but praise for Amazon warehouse working conditions and their benefits. Some links are included to other posts including about working conditions, individual FC Ambassadors and the FC Ambassador program.

Who likes everything about their job?
Panzer says, "Hmm ... Who are these warehouse workers that they have time to be tweeting online?"

Note: This is a long post. Bring a cup and a half of tea and two muffins for today's reading selection.

The press release announces Amazon's newest fulfillment center is to be built in Bessemer, Alabama. As with all fulfillment centers employees will fill customer orders. The center will also make use of robotics to help the employees work more efficiently. The fulfillment center will employ 1,500 full-time employees. Amazon Announces Further Expansion in Oklahoma with Tulsa Fulfillment Center - Press Release

Yesterday really tired this little kitty out.
There was no post yesterday because Mom and What's His Name were replacing the baking element in the oven, whatever that is. Every time I tried to help What's His Name pushed me away. Of course, without my help it took an hour longer than they expected. By the time they finished it was dinner time and Mom wouldn't turn the computer on to record my hunting adventures. But ... She's all set for today, so here we got.

Panzer's trip into the Catosphere today took him to the Amazon press room. There with a little digging around he found a press release about Amazon's expansion in Oklahoma.

According to Amazon's press release, the company will be opening their second Oklahoma fulfillment center in Tulsa. The first fulfillment center will be located in South Oklahoma City. The new fulfillment center will employee 1500 employees. Full-time employee benefits will include maternity leave, parental leave, healthcare, 401(k), and company stock. The Career Choice program is also included in the benefit package. In the program Amazon pays 95 percent of the tuition for courses in in-demand fields. Included in the press release is a link to information about how to apply for employment at the fulfillment site.

Panzer says, "This little kitty wonders if Amazon is the largest U.S. employer yet."

Note: This is a medium length post. Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection. If you plan to follow the link and read about employment opportunities at Amazon, bring another muffin.

Amazon Launches Latest Rooftop Solar System on 813,000 Square Foot Fulfillment Center in North Las Vegas - Press Release

Today as Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere he heard clapping and cheering. Following all the joyful noise took our adventuresome kitty to the Amazon Press Release site. There he found a post about Amazon's newest solar rooftop installation.

According to the press release, Amazon has installed a solar rooftop system at their North Las Vegas fulfillment center. The 1.1 megawatt system installation is the second the company has installed on their company sites in Nevada. This is the 17th rooftop solar installation in the U.S. in the past 14 months. Amazon's plans are to eventually be providing 100 percent of the company's energy consumption from it's own renewable energy company-wide. There's a link to Amazon's renewable energy plans included in the post.

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Nevada seems to like all the jobs Amazon is bringing for employees there. ... And ... You know, Seattle, Washington, where the Amazon headquarters (HQ1) are located just put a $275 per employee tax on businesses ... And ... Amazon is the biggest employer there. ... And ... Amazon will be paying over $10 million per year because they have so many employees. ... So ... Maybe Nevada would like Amazon's HQ1 and all those jobs for employees, but with no per employee tax, of course. ... This little kitty is just wondering."

Note: This is a short-medium length post (if you take out all the usual information about Amazon at the end). Bring a cup of tea and a muffin for today's reading selection.
