Today, Panzer found Publishers Weekly's annual publishing employees report online at the site.

 

The report uses charts and graphs to show publishing professionals demographics, how they feel about their jobs, and other information.

Amazon is hiring 250,000 employees for the holidays, and making the largest ever investment in U.S. hourly wages - Amazon

Today's trip into the Catosphere took Panzer to the Amazon Now news site. There he found an announcement about Amazon's seasonal hiring.

That would buy a lot of kitty treats.

According to the site, Amazon will be hiring 250,000 new employees across the U.S. The employees will fill fulfillment and transportation positions for the holidays. The positions are either temporary or permanent. The announcement also contains information about hourly pay and health and education benefits.

Panzer says, "There's a link to apply at the end of the announcement."

Markets and Jobs for Writers - The Practicing Writer

 Panzer stopped in at The Practicing Writer site where he found a post about opportunities for writers

 

The post by Erika Dreifus lists markets and jobs which don't charge any fees for submissions or applications. The list includes markets for short fiction and poetry and competitions, fellowships and jobs for writers. Some do have submission restrictions.

 

Check submission end dates too.

Today, Panzer stopped in at the Amazon Company News site. With a little digging there our inquisitive kitty boy found a post from CEO Andy Jazzy.

 

What is the economy?

The post explains the recent "role eliminations" in Amazon's workforce. CEO Andy Jazzy says the reductions were necessitated by the economy. He also says the reductions will continue into 2023.

 

Panzer says, "Hmm ... Everybody is laying off employees."

Amazon Announces Plans to Hire 125,000 Employees in Hundreds of Cities and Towns Across America - Press Release

Today, Panzer has a quick post for you from Amazon.

 

According to the Press Release on the Amazon News site, the company will be hiring 125,000 new employees in various states. The post includes a link with information about how to apply. Pay is $18 an hour. Depending on the job there may be a signing bonus too. 

 

Also included in the post just before the About Amazon section is a link to register for Amazon's Career Day - America on September 15. This is Amazon's recruiter coaching day to help you get a job. It's free to register and attend the sessions. It's virtual, but has limited attendance.

 

Sorry! It was just announced today.

Panzer says, "Yes, September 15 is tomorrow. So hurry up and register now, if you want coaching help."

August Markets for Writers - Various

My work is never finished.

Panzer was cleaning out the Panzermobile hangar, when he happened to see two wadded up posts shoved under the workbench. Flattening them out, our busy kitty discovered they were posts about magazine markets and jobs available for writers in August.

 One of the posts was from Erika Dreifus' site with a listing of markets and jobs for writers. The other was a post from Trish Hopkinson's site with a listing of markets for poets and prose writers.

Panzer says, "Although the month is almost half over, I decided to post it because many of the submission deadlines aren't until August 31."

Note: There are a lot of listings on the two sites. It's up to you what you bring to drink and eat while you're exploring all the markets.

Amazon Has More Than 50,000 Jobs Available and Expects to Hire Thousands of Employees at the Nation's Largest Job Fair - Press Release

Today, Panzer's trip into the Catosphere turned out to be a noisy one. Our traveling kitty had barely gotten into the Catosphere when his tender little kitty ears were assaulted by cheering and clapping and oohing and awing. Following all the hullabaloo took him to the Amazon site. There he found a press release about the Amazon Jobs Day.

According to the press release, the Amazon Jobs Day is August 2. The job fair will run from 8:00 am to Noon at 10 Amazon fulfillment centers across the U.S. With 10 hiring locations and 50,000 positions to fill, Amazon bills this as The Nation's Largest Job Fair. Tours of the fulfillment centers will be provided so potential employees can see what's entailed in working for Amazon. Qualified employment seekers will be offered jobs "on-the-spot." Locations of the participating fulfillment centers are included in the press release. Almost at the end of the press release is a link to apply online.

Do you think anybody will notice me?

Panzer says, "Shhh ... Don't tell anybody ... But this little kitty thinks he'll go to a fulfillment center just to see what they do in there."

Amazon to Create More Than 100,000 New, Full-Time, Full-Benefit Jobs across the U.S. over the Next 18 months - Press Release at Business Wire

Panzer was shaken out of his noon nap today by all the hullabaloo coming from the Catosphere. Hopping into the Panzermobile he followed all the clapping and cheering to the Business Wire site. There our inquisitive kitty discovered a post about Amazon.

Hmm ... They are spread over 7 states.

According to the Business Wire post, Amazon announced plans to add 100,000 new jobs in the U.S. by mid-2018. These jobs will cover everything from entry-level positions in new fulfillment centers already under construction to specialized positions such as engineers. The jobs will be available in Washington (state), Texas, California, Illinois, Kentucky, Florida, and New Jersey. All jobs are full-time.

Panzer says, "One-hundred thousand is a lot of jobs"

Winter Institute 11: Report Finds $1 Billion Tax Gap Caused by Amazon - PW (Publishers' Weekly)

Panzer was tootling around in the Catosphere when he heard crying and the gnashing of teeth. Following all the noise took him to the Publishers' Weekly online site. There our brave kitty explorer found a post by Claire Kirch about the Winter Institute 11 conference.

The post is about a report presented to the attendees at Winter Institute 11. Prepared by the American Booksellers Association and Civic Economics, the report says 23 states and Washington, D.C. do not collect sales tax from Amazon.com. It also says because of the sales at Amazon.com and other online retailers an estimated 30,000 retail businesses were not opened and property taxes not collected from them. Also, 136,000 jobs were not created by those non-existent companies. And, finally, the report says all of the sales taxes, non-existent businesses and non-existent jobs add up to $1 Billion dollars Amazon (and the other unnamed online retailers) have cost.

My head hurts just thinking about it.

Panzer says, "I don't understand human math. If the companies don't exist, how can you know what size they would use for their store? And how can you know, if something doesn't exist. how many employees they didn't hire? And ... Sales Tax? If you didn't collect it, how do you know how much it was?  Nothing plus Nothing plus Nothing equals $1 Billion?"

Amazon Has 6,000 U.S. Jobs Available

Here's your chance to work at Amazon.

Out in the Catosphere today Panzer found some news of interest at the Business Wire site. Our kitty boy found some employment news about Amazon's fulfillment centers in the USA.

According to the post, Amazon will be hiring 6,000 new employees. Amazon says their growth necessitates more employees to fill the demand. The post also states these are full-time jobs with full benefits, including educational benefits. There's a list in the post of the fulfillment centers that Amazon is hiring for and a link for job information. There's no mention in the post of jobs outside the U.S.

Panzer says, "Hmmm. I didn't know they helped pay for your education."
